Attention Pet owners: Our beloved family member (FM) died 14 hours after being discharged from the Okeechobee Veterinary Hospital. He was admitted on Dec. 21, 2022 with nasal congestion/discharge. Dr. Alec Wynne accepted him with a $300 deposit. This office called to update us Friday 12/23 and then Saturday 12/24 to state they felt it necessary to keep him over the holiday weekend. Dr. Winn called on 12/26/22 that he was ready to be picked up but stated on the phone that, " I feel uneasy to let him come home because he was not 100% feeling better and that you will need to continue giving IV fluids at home". Dr. Winn then confirmed his statement by saying that we would be giving our pet subcutaneous IV injections (at home) and we would be trained by a vet tech when we got to the facility. Why didn't Dr. Wynne just keep our family member a few more days to heal at his Vet HOSPITAL? On Dec. 26th, we went to the Hospital and were asked to pay the difference of the bill of $243 before seeing our family member. A Vet tech then took us to our FM, and at first, we could see dried mucous on his face, his neck, his shoulders, caked into his skin. Knowing we were on the way up didn't register to these car takers to have him cleaned up. My wife and I could tell immediately that our FM was not himself. The techs taught us how to inject him with a IV needle by doing it themselves in front of us (2 minutes) and we were reassured that our FM would make a quicker recovery at home with a less stressful environment. This hospital knowingly discharged an unhealthy animal, regardless of what type) home to have owners give IV injections at home. 14 hours later, at 3:30 in the morning with round- the-clock-care, he was gone. Dr. Wynne was called early morning on 12/27/22 and was told what had happened. He expressed remorse and sorrow but could not fully explain his incessant need to have our beloved pet pushed out of his hospital. I told him my family was distraught; he stated he would like to express his sentiments to my wife, but she was very angry with him and I knew she would not like to speak to him. Incidentally, the actual Vet office actually texted us on the 28th asking about how everything is going-indicating little to no concerned or communication that our FM had passed between Dr. Winn and his office took place. Maybe some pets or last names in this town get better treatment and/or sympathy, we certainly did not. To date, there has been zero communication between the Okeechobee Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Wynn's and us since 12/27/22. No card, no follow up phone call, nothing. As if our FM did not matter. I purposely left the type of pet our Family Member was out of this review as it should not matter- a true pet owner with a sick pet should know what this means and feels like. Feel free though to replace my family member in this review with your beloved dog, a puppy you can't live without, your child's kitten, a foal that you help bring into this would, etc... before you bring that beloved animal to this place as this may happen to you. Made an appointment on short notice. Vet was very informative and realistic. Discussed different levels of treatment. Very fair in price.

We had to have our old euthanized and the people at this facility were very good in handling the procedure.

The owner himself, who is also the doctor, is smart, compassionate, and not quick to "pull the knife" when a gentler approach is possible.

EXCELLENT CARE We were vacationing in Okeechobee when our 14…read moreyear old pomeranian became ill. We didn't know any vets in the area. My husband randomly and luckily chose CowTown. He called and they got us an appointment right away. After some bloodwork, Dr. Cook told us she was in advanced stage kidney failure and explained our options. We were initially told with treatment, she would only have a few weeks to a couple of months. We chose treatment until we could get her home to our family vet. Dr. Cook and their staff took EXCELLENT care of our Zoie Grace. They contacted our vet in Ohio to check her recent blood test results and consult on treatment as well as keep them up-to-date on her condition. To help offset our costs, they taught me how to give her fluids myself so she didn't have to be hospitalized or return every day for treatment. Thanks to their care, Zoie was not only stabilized so we could get her home but with their care and our vet, she was with us through the holidays. Much longer than anyone expected. Zoie was quite a fighter, however, she finally lost the battle on 01/06/2024. CowTown could have "price gouged" us since we had an emergency situation AND were from out-of-town. They didn't. We were surprised and pleased, not that it would have mattered. They were more concerned with treating our Zoie than "making a quick buck from out-of-towners". So THANK YOU COWTOWN. I have recommended you to anyone/everyone in or coming to your area. Lynette Riley Newark OH

WARNING: ZERO STARS GIVEN!!! Today I took my baby girl to…read moresee the vet as she is in labor, and I worry this one seems a bit more distressing for her than the last. Upon entering the Animal Hospital at 1:20pm, I was advised that the vet was out to lunch and would not return until 2pm. I told both the receptionist and the vet tech that I would return at 2, so as to avoid an outrageous emergency vet bill. The tech promptly took Abigail "to weigh her", during which time the receptionist called Dr. Cook to return to the Animal Hospital. Thereby creating an "emergency" and charging me for an emergency visit. This awful experience does not end there. After initial examination the tech returned to the waiting room and advised me of several option and the cost of each. To which I advised her that we would only need an x-ray at this point. Should something prove to be wrong we would address it after. I also advised her that my mother was paying for the visit today. However, I would need to pay her back on my next payday. The receptionist proceeded to call my mother to collect payment prior to the x-rays being done. She did NOT advise my mother for what she was paying, nor that I only wished to have the x-rays done at this time. She did, however, charge her $400 for the visit. Because she "didn't want to make multiple phone calls for payment if we 'needed' to do blood work as well." NONE of this was addressed with me. I had only authorized payment of the visit and x-rays. Upon being told that they collected $400 from my mother I became enraged and left before my anger manifested in physical violence. As Abby's human I have the final say in what happens. NOT my mother and certainly NOT a receptionist. Upon my return some 5 minutes later, the receptionist told me they would be right with me. She left her desk to return minutes later. I had just spoken to my mother, and they had not yet refunded her the unauthorized $400. I asked if they were going to perform the x-rays or not. She said they would not, and that I could go to North Lake instead. So, I aired my grievances in the lobby. Starting with the moment I walked in. The woman wanted to play dumb "I didn't know you would have to pay your mom back", " I didn't know that is what you told the tech" yada yada. No you didn't because there is a lack of communication, and an unwillingness to do your job correctly. When you heard that someone else would be covering the visit today you saw dollar signs and tried to bilk it for all it was worth. Afterall, when I lost my beloved Hachi 2 years ago, I was told the visit would be $150. They called my mother and collected $500. Money I had to return on payday. I did NOT authorize $500. I authorized $150, but my heart was broken at the moment, and I did not air my grievances to such sums of money. Yet again, someone else was paying the bill and they aimed to collect all they could. In the end I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS VET UNLESS YOU ENJOY BEING BILKED FOR EVERY PENNY YOU HAVE.

I'm giving two out of five stars for a few reasons…read more Dr. Wade does seem capable and knowledgable and she clearly has a passion for animals. That said, her time management could definitely use some improvement. I scheduled our first appointment, and the day before, I was asked to move it up an hour, which I agreed to. Then, on the day of the appointment, there was another request to switch back to the original time. I held back my frustration, as although I agreed, I was forced to rearrange our calendar at short notice. Regarding our second visit; shortly after confirming the 10:30AM appointment, I received a text asking if she could come an hour earlier, as she was apparently trying to accommodate another client. I agreed, but then received another text shortly thereafter asking us to return to the original time of 10:30AM. Honestly, it feels like there's a perception that people don't have busy lives and that the onus is on the client to accommodate her other patients. It's inconvenient and causes difficulties for people. The next morning Dr. Wade showed up at 9:15AM, 75 minutes early, insisting that leaving an unanswered voicemail and text justifies disregarding our scheduled appointment time. I turn my phone off at night so I did not get her communications; meaning that she got no affirmation that that would be okay with us. Dr Wade claimed that her patients appreciate it when she arrives early. Ten or 15 minutes might be okay, but I am confident that most people do not think that showing up early an hour and a half plus in the AM is acceptable. It wouldn't have stuck in my craw so much however, when I attempted another honest discussion with her regarding this issue, instead of accepting responsibility, Dr. Wade claimed that perhaps I was confused with another veterinarian who services our area. I had to acknowledge to myself what I was dealing with and quickly lost all confidence in her willingness to address the situation honestly. Humility is a virtue and I sincerely hope that that once Dr. Wade is a bit more seasoned, she might realize the importance of being more considerate towards clients in that aspect of her business. In any case, this is the second time (out of two visits) that the scheduling has inconvenienced us and that really isn't conducive to a good client/doctor relationship in my opinion. Another concerning issue is that Dr Wade insists that you order medications from an online pharmacy that is directly linked to her website. Not surprisingly, the pricing is significantly higher than regular avenues like Chewy, Costco, CVS and even our own compounding pharmacy. Further, there is a required $19.95 "expedited 3 business day delivery fee". This is another problematic hoop to jump through. Because of the exorbitant pricing, I had to insist that she call in the script to my preferred pharmacy. She did, but with the following text message, which I found to be dismissive and brash: "We just got your text. We were closed New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. We got Chewy's email. We'll give a verbal approval this one time." I will say that Dr. Wade seems up-to-date on testing, treatments, and studies related to pet care, which we did appreciate, but her platform just isn't the right fit for us. I would suggest contacting Midway Veterinary, Dr. Holland has been in the business for 40 years, the office is very accommodating and the staff is fantastic.
