Start of Shevlin Loop trail, north side

It terms of city parks, it doesn't get any better than Shevlin. Located within barely-warms-up-the-car's-engine distance from my house, Shevlin offers borderline spectacular hiking opportunities. I really like the variable nature of the paths, too. The loop trail will take you up a bit in elevation to the dryer parts of the park with both distance and creek views, while the lower trails offer an easier, yet still substantial, creek experience. Wherever you go, the trees in this park are awesome. Several foot bridges cross Tumalo Creek, including a cool covered bridge located about midway down. Lots of picnic spots, too, and not just at the parking lot near Aspen Meadow, where there's a large pavilion. So far, I've done the entire loop trail, the old railroad path (it's on the west side above the loop trail) and a good portion of Tumalo Creek trail. All the trails, especially the creek trail, offer fairly easy footing. The east side loop trail near the south bridge crossover has some good elevation change to it, so it's not all just a walk in the park, so to speak. If you're a mind too, Tumalo Creek trail runs a fair ways out of Shevlin towards Tumalo Falls. Not sure how far. You'll find a lot of trail runners and bikers on the loop trial, but so far everyone is super courteous and willing to share the trail. The creek trail is mostly wide, so that's not likely an issue. Lots of dogs. This is prime dog hiking territory. Haven't seen anyone out walking their cat yet, but maybe. Open dawn to dusk, the park has decent amount of parking lot within the gates and also some outside, near the highway. There's parking on the other side near Aspen Hall, too. You can also access the park from the Shevlin Commons parking lot, where you'll find a wheelchair accessible path running far enough to get good views. Restroom facilities near the pavilion at the loop trailhead. Highly recommended.
