I got married in November 2017 and the transition to bring my wife on board and do our joint taxes was great. This was my wife's first time using an accounting firm and I have to say - I was even more impressed with how they handled it. One of the partners (managing partner) called and walked her through everything step by step. Who takes time to do this, especially when there are a ton of other clients (and probably more important ones). You guessed it...resubmitted a corrected return and received $5,000+ reimbursement from the IRS. Don't do it folks...call someone else. It's unfortunate that this needs to be done...but it's well earned. I trusted the principle in this firm during a very difficult time...when I needed a neutral objective professional. Maybe it was the expression of empathy and understanding he expressed when agreeing to take us on that prompted my confidence in his ability to do so. My spouse & I are working our last set of taxes before finalizing divorce and to my dismay the neutrality and objectivity went out the door. Tax return drafts highly favored my spouse...mortgage interest, property tax for multiple properties...instead of dividing in a manner that resembled our circumstance...fair & equatable...were skewed to one side. And still worse he presented incomplete information in an attempt to get me to agree to a submission that favored...yet again...my spouse. If I took the bate & agreed, it would have cost me $ I cannot deal with a breach of trust and confidence...an inability to maintain an objective professional sense of loyalty to a client...whether under special circumstance or just processing a tax return. He was literally sighing into the phone after the first 15 seconds acting dismissive and annoyed that he might have to do some work.
