If you paddle to the back of the lake on the campground side, the creek is gorgeous. There's a ton of wildlife like herons, turtles, eagles, and all sorts of fish for catch and release. The campground hosts several events throughout the season and has electric and non-electric but no full hook up. The camp store has everything you may need. Hike on one of the many clean trails or try a round of disc golf, it's a brand new trail and impressive!

It's a nice size sandy beach area and there were a large number of people enjoying the sunny day. We chose a trail that was shared with bicycles (unknown until we saw trailhead). And although the trail was a beautiful walk through wooded areas it was rather distracting to have to move over and be on the look out for the bikers (and they definitely outnumbered the walkers) If we visit again we will have to do more research for a footpath only trail.

The camping sites are also nice and clean. They have a diverse array of trees, birds, and animals in their woods. The trails are like a 1.5 to 2 out of 5 in difficulty. There's one spot in a trail where you should be prepared to get a little wet. So would recommend wearing water resistant or water proof hiking shoes. These trails are not rocky enough to wear a helmet difficult, but you will work up a sweat. During fall and spring the trails can get a little slick and tricky. The paths are clear and the animals are chill. They usually do their own thing. The park rangers are also super friendly.

It's a huge packed area with few trees, borders hard to discern and tightly packed. I would recommend getting a spot on one the little dead ends with trees and not 1,000 people. The area the park has on the lake is not very appealing tbh. The nature center was a good diversion and they also had movie night and mid day crafts available at the pavilion. I'd give those a 5*.

My family and I have camped at Cowan Lake State Park twice now and will definitely be back for more…read moreoutdoor adventures. The campsites are a good size and are all in the woods, which we prefer. The bathrooms are super simple, but the women's restrooms are impressively clean. My husband did say that the men's restrooms were pretty much unusable though. I have not used the showers, so I can't speak to those. The price is good and I am happy to support a state park. We also haven't gone down to the lake or used any of the other park amenities yet, but look forward to trying them out. Each campsite has a firing and a picnic table and a paved driveway, perfect for our truck top tent. My only complaint so far is that the last time we stayed, there was a dog who truly barked without ceasing the entire time, with the exception of quiet hours because it was taken inside to sleep. I understand the dogs are allowed in the campground and that they bark, but we weren't able to relax, and the campground wasn't peaceful because the barking was that bad. I do wish there was some sort of policy for this. However, this won't deter us from coming back because I do believe it was a coincidence.

Right off the road is a nice sized pond, most likely not used for fishing but more for scenery. The park is fenced in by the cutest white picket fence. Nearby the pond is a small lot of tall trees with a paved walking path that is kept up quite well. There's a few tables within the trees for a perfect picnic in the shade. Further into the park are several soccer and baseball fields. This area was jammed packed! There were several games going on and tons of kids having fun! The playground looked pretty cool, if only I was 15 years younger! Ample parking back towards the sports fields. We pulled off to the side of the road up by the pond and we weren't in anyone's way. Everything is paved and nice. There's also a community building that we did not check out but it looks big. I believe this is where township meetings are held. If even possible, this would be a cute area to rent out for a baby shower or children's party. No complaints for our first time visiting!

It's winter so no one else was there at first ... I gather it's popular for fishing in warmer weather. No one was at the booth to collect any fee this time of year. No hawk, eagle or ducks but a ton of vultures .. around 50. They were eating something ..i walked around the lake to see .. it appears they were eating their own ... just bones and feathers left. There is a boat dock and a river. Saw a kingfisher at the river. I'd spotted several but this was the first time got a pic .. they usually are too quick to fly away.

They do (not now of course) have boat rentals. There are really 2 places to park. One is right when you pass the small range/collect station you go a bit and look to your right. There is a kinda not noticeable entrance to a small parking/fishing area. Then if you drive a bit more around there is a much bigger parking area. There is also the rental building there. It has some nice places to lay down,walk, and just chill out. So do go and relax and enjoy.
