The Museum is very small, but the old fire equipment they have on display is breathtaking. It was awesome to see how our Fireman in the old days fought fire, with the equipment in this Museum. There is a public restroom here and easy access from I-84. If you want to picnic, I suggest driving to the Riverfront park which is to the right (east) when you arrive at the river.

We tried…read moreto go here a few years ago but tourist season was over and gaining access to the area didn't seem like an option as the gates getting to the memorial were closed and locked. So we reattempted again this summer and made sure it was during a time where the tourists would be out and about. And they were! There were lots of visitors here but not to the point where it was overwhelming or unpleasant. It wasn't a problem getting the timing right to get the pictures you wanted without a bunch of people standing in the way of them. As it says it's a memorial and is dedicated to the lives lost and sacrifices given in W.W. I. So it's a bit of an older memorial but everything is well kept and clean and the Memorial looks ageless as intended. The memorial overlooks the Columbia Gorge so you can get some beautiful views of the river and Gorge in a wonderful panoramic vantage point. Below the the memorial is the small town of Maryhill. It looks quaint and cute but we didn't go down and check it out as we had a reservation we couldn't miss back in Goldendale. The Stonehenge Memorial is indeed a worthy stop and it's a kind of a stop where there isn't much of an excuse to avoid and one big incentive involving that is that there is no entrance fee to enjoy the memorial.

This was NOT the case at my most recent stop at the Kenton post office. Long lines and a distinct feeling of apathy was palpable in the air. Ken, my federally appointed postal worker during this last transaction was less than enthused to be working. Rude and potentially racist as he asked the Hispanic women in front of me que pasa ? in unflattering tones.... Plus it took me a 1/2 hour to buy a book of stamps... Hence the 2 star review

The Kenton Post Office is located in the 97217 zip code, is okay for what it is but could be…read morebetter. The nice thing is that it has a window that you can go to after normal hours to retrieve mail from a vacation hold or submit other simple forms, you cannot purchase postage or other things at this window. I may have never seen this before, because I always thought I had to go up to the counter, but when someone was waiting at the window, I decided to wait too and see what would happen. That service is one redeeming factor for this place. The bad is that they don't have an automated shipping kiosk and oversized package receptacle for the eBay-ers, the other bad thing is the location of the street postal box. It is on the opposite side of the street for the driver to put mail in. I've seen someone be on the wrong side of the Kilpatrick Street just so that they could stay in their car when putting mail into the box. Even on the other side of the street it doesn't work because there is a stop sign right there at that four-way intersection.

Originally there was a toll but when the bond was paid off in 1974, the bridge removed the toll and it's been free ever since, fingers crossed. While the Bridge of the Gods in Stevenson is a stunningly beautiful bridge, and the Hood River Bridge offers beautiful views, both are toll bridges costing $2 each direction. Whiile $2 is not a lot of money, if you travel between Hood River and White Salmon frequently, it adds up. The Dalles Bridge, built in 1953, is currently under repairs. "Starting the first weekend after Labor Day 2021, The Dalles Bridge will be closed from Thursday nights at 8 p.m. through Monday mornings at 6 a.m. These closures will occur every weekend until Memorial Day 202 weekends, leaving it open during the week for those commuting. " From November through January, the migrating Eagles nest in the trees along the river on the Oregon side. It's amazing to see so many in one place, especially at feeding time. Soaring over the river and land surrounding the water hunting for fish and critters.

The Dalles Bridge was opened on December 18,1953 and is a steel cantilever truss bridge that spans the Columbia river between the Dalles,Oregon and Dallas Port , Washington. It carries the traffic of US Route 197. The bridge had a toll from its opening until November 1, 1974 when the construction Bond was paid off.

This single lane bridge curves skyward to allow barges and other big boats passage along the Columbia. It links the WA and the OR. There's no toll, and I really think of it as being the gateway to the Columbia Gorge (when heading West). If you ever venture off the behemoth I-84 here, you really should check out the Maryhill Museum, "Stone henge", and the fruit stand (http://www.yelp.com/biz/maryhill-fruit-stand-and-orchard-goldendale) on the other side of the bridge.
