My son just started his fourth year there and we couldn't be happier with the program. He is…read moregenuinely excited to go to school every day, even going so far as to ask when summer vacation was over so he could go back. The school encourages individual identity within a community, helping each child discover who they are and how they fit into the world around them. They have a fantastic outdoor curriculum including gardening and stewardship of the common areas and excursions into the neighborhood for various projects. Music, art, theatre, martial arts, yoga, and mindfulness are all interspersed with science, math, English, history, and social studies, helping to enhance the idea of interconnectedness through all our experiences. The whole school community is extremely welcoming and encourages regular interaction between parents, administrators, and teachers to make sure everyone is working towards the best outcome for each child. I consider my family incredibly lucky to have found such a supportive and nurturing environment that focuses on long term goals and intends to prepare children to be successful global citizens who can see how and why things work together rather than simply teaching facts. Fortunately, I had them over a four year period and took them for other classes. Sadly, most have moved on and retired- Gorman, Lynch - others I've lost contact with- the rest- but their legacy lives on. Walk down the E wing and you can see Lynch's closet where he smoked three cigs during our testing sessions. Or the indentation on the lockers from Gorman's golf club. Or you can hear Freyer say 'c'mere sonnnnn' six times so he can yell at you about your polo not being tucked in. Or the obnoxious smell and piss poor lighting of the Dwing. Or the overly bright C wing which had Fowler deal from the deck. Subconsciously, I believe that's why I like playing cards so much...because I got called on so many fucking times in his class especially when I was day dreaming about being in Gorman's class instead of Trig. B wing had Br. Mahoney who is the undisputed lightweight champ of the brothers. Mr Scott had such great enthusiasm for StL that it was a shock to me that I had heard he left. His legacy is one of playing an active role in the community- find a program that he didn't help think of or handle. In 02 the administration decided to erect a moto above the student entrance/exit- Leave as a Leader. I thought it was a bullshit moto...leave as a leader ha! But it didn't dawn on me until I was away for quite awhile and swung in for a visit to see if Gorman was around. I came in as a boy in 98 with a wickedly bad pubic-y mustache and left in 02 as a man...a grizzled man, but a grizzly leader.

When my son started here at the age of 3, he was extremely introverted, shy, and found it difficult to be around new people. It was not easy for him to be away from me. Three years later, he is much more confident. Ms. Donna and Ms. Kara have helped get him out of his shell. He has come a long way and has made so many friends. Academically, we could not be more pleased, impressed even. My son reads, writes, solves math problems & word problems, knows a lot about science, and has even learned about every day practical life activities. Now that he has graduated from kindergarten, he will be moving on to a new school. We are sad that he is leaving, but we are confident that he has all the tools (and beyond) to succeed in his new school. Several mornings a week I strolled them over, where they played in their age-appropriate room for an hour or so under professional supervision, while I went to the parents' room to chat, chill, or work. There was a reasonable sliding monthly fee for this sanity-saving service. The twice-annual kids' resale event was a great way to recycle the old clothes and buy "new" ones (you don't need to be a member, just get on their mailing list). Parenthesis also offers evening programs for single parents and teen parents. Just a dandy place.

I'm a working mom with a solo law practice, and I highly recommend Parenthesis. This is a…read moreterrific place for parents to get a break and/or get work done. The morning program is three mornings a week (two in the summertime) and lasts 2.5 hours. Each child is assigned to a classroom for play and crafts, while parents head to the parents' lounge for coffee, wi-fi, and/or relaxation time. If you're breastfeeding, you can also nurse your infant there (and then put them back in the infant room after baby is fed). I've made some wonderful friends there, too. Due to my work obligations, our schedule changes frequently and we can't always attend. One thing I love about Parenthesis is that we don't have to pay for visits we don't use. The only thing I'd change about Parenthesis? I wish it was open every day, all day long! :)
