We were encouraged to do ride-a-longs. I would show up for "Roll Call" with the Officers for the afternoon shifts. Then the Assistant Chief would choose who I would ride with for the night. I had to wear dark slacks, dark shirt and closed toe shoes. I was to remain silent on all calls. It's funny, people would think I was the Boss Lady. Too funny! The Sheriff's Watch group, fomerly known as ShAdCo(Sheriff's Advisory Council)here as well. The People of the community run the meetings in conjunction with JSO. The room we used to meet in is under renovation inside the mall. I was the Chairperson along with a Co-Chair, Dick Hulcher, a retired NYC Policeman-for 3 consecutive years. I would choose the speakers, plan JSO walks in the neighborhood, send out monthly flyers, and I helped plan the Safety Fairs every year at Regency Square Mall, and Ride-a-longs. This substation is also a convenient place to pick up copies of Police or accident reports that one might need. There is a copy fee involved.

I don't think I can find the words to say how grateful I am that not only the kids got this opportunity, but the parents as well. I am truly amazed at this police department. How they "do it" is beyond me! Let me tell you why... Do you know the population of St. Augustine, Florida is right at 14K? WHOA! I know...right? It seems bigger than that. But you know what?...that means they have a very small police department since the population is low. Let's think about that for a minute...HELLO!...this is a tourist town!!! Doesn't it seem like you always see an officer somewhere? Next question...how many people do you think visit St. Augustine every year? Yep...I guessed a million too! But it's 7 million! Yes, 7,000,000 people! How does this police force keep up? They are humpin'..that's how! They have a very small force and it goes without saying they are understaffed. The next time you see a St. Augustine police officer take some time to thank them for all they do because it's not easy with these numbers. They are good, but numbers are thin. As for the station, it is very small. But we truly enjoyed learning about day to day operations there and learning how they juggle their schedules to make it work for the people (you and me that is). After all, someone has to always be on duty to protect and defend. We all thought it was cool to see the interrogation rooms, the evidence lockers and especially the vehicles. The bullet proof vest were a big hit too. I, and we, appreciated the educating tour of the police department by Officer Samson, the time he dedicated to us and making us feel very welcome. For the last 15 years this has been an amazing experience to me how this small suburb does its job so well.. Jax beach police officers do seem to be the most solid and contemporary in regards to our COVID issue.. They have never let me down.(even before covid) Neptune and Atlantic Beach police have also garnered my respect.. Jacksonville itself should really look at the way these small city departments do there job.. However I do want to mention that J.S.O. And State police here in-my metro area also seem to be doing a great job!! You all get 5 stars in my mind and I'll leave it at that!!

Just called because some lady in my neighborhood walked out of her house and began yelling at me…read morefor no reason for the 2nd time. H.D. Hendrick came to my house after about 20minutes where I told her of what has occurred and how unsafe I'm beginning to feel, she then asked why I'm mad or angry with her, um you're suppose to keep the neighborhood safe and you're not. She refused to help me get info on trying to get an I junction on the neigbor that is aggressively approaching me in the road. H. D. Hendrich then complained she didn't make enough money, where then I suggested she return to school to follow her dreams, she then suggested I do the samewhere I told her I already had studied and received a degree. She also mentioned she isn't a resident of this community so I don't see how the pay rate here affects her if she lives in Hillard. There have only been a few descent officers here, and they know who they are, and I thank the good ones from the bottom of my heart. To the awful ones, go home.

Giving 4 Stars b/c I had to come here twice to get a Courtesy Report filed in another state for ID…read morefraud, otherwise, they'd def get a HIGH FIVE with Stars to match! Friendly (yes, & I don't work here), helpful, accommodating receptionist. Officer Harmon took awhile to get here; she was out & about. Nice, friendly, but re-directed me to another state to file ;/ Officer Sgt. Hughes also took awhile to get to the office, when I returned to file the Rpt, since the other state wouldn't take my info, without something originating from the State in which I live. He was courteous, friendly, efficient, professional. The CR took all of 10mins max to file... so thank you, Sgt. Hughes! I can finally get this going! Easy access, Reid @11th Street. Shares the same block as the Palatka FD. Parking on a grass/dirt lot across the street, if Visitor parking is full.
