I had a very disappointing experience with Gallery Art and would not trust them with valuable…read moreartwork again. A couple of months ago, I brought in an art piece to have the inside of the plexiglass cleaned. When I noticed months later that there were still visible marks that had been missed, I also realized that the plexiglass was no longer properly seated under the wood frame, the edge was now sticking out. This had never been an issue in the 20+ years the piece of art has been in this frame, including previous handling by other professionals. I brought the piece back and spoke with an employee named Mathew. He acknowledged that the piece had not been cleaned properly, but then attempted to blame me for the plexiglass shifting due to how I "might have handled it." He also claimed the plexiglass was cut too small for the frame, which makes no sense given the frame's long history without this problem, until Gallery Art took it apart and put it back together. Mathew initially tried to charge me $180 to re-clean the piece and realign the plexiglass, even though the issue was clearly caused by their work. I asked instead for the plexiglass to simply be replaced. After getting my piece back, I contacted the owner, Amy, to discuss the situation. She was extremely unprofessional from my initial call with her. When I called at 11:30 a.m., she told me she sleeps during the day and would not speak with me until after 7 p.m. When I finally did reach her and explained that I should not have been charged to fix their mistake, she dismissed my concerns entirely after multiple calls going back and forth with her on the situation. After spending over $700 with this business, she offered only a $90 credit and later followed up with a text to me stating... "Obviously, you agreed to the price when you dropped it off, you were not double billed." This completely missed the point of my complaint, which was about poor workmanship and accountability, not billing confusion. Overall, the lack of care, refusal to take responsibility, and unprofessional communication were unacceptable. I would not trust this company with any artwork, especially valuable or sentimental pieces.

This gallery was especially nice. I loved how colorful their art was. I love going to see art…read moregalleries around the city and this is one of the first that I can say I loved almost every piece in there and it wasn't too hot or too cold and the staff was very friendly. It was an overall great experience. I think they're open late on weekends, so if you have a moment to stop by and see the art it's well worth it. There are also other art galleries near by, so you can make a night of it and end with dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Most of the pieces were really large, fit for a large house and/or wall. He said that Avant Home is a new lifestyle concept brand from parent company, Avant Gallery, cross-pollinating contemporary art with furniture design, accessories and decor for inspirational modern-day living. Which is a great idea...... since customers can purchase furniture that would go with a particular art piece they would like to buy...or....the other way around... Depending on the artist, the pieces are in the thousands of dollars range.

But when I wanted to try out some high-end oil pastels right away, I struck out at big box stores and stopped by id art on a whim, with no big expectations. I was blown away. The place is jam-packed floor to ceiling with everything from student supplies to professional-grade paints, oils, pastels, crayons, brushes, and canvases you just don't find elsewhere. Yes, some prices are higher--as with most independents--but the selection is second to none. Best of all, the staff are real artists who know their stuff and genuinely care about getting you what you need. That mattered to me--I don't want to waste time searching when I'm ready to work. I have a confession to make...I lied...about being an art fan…read more There's no way I can consider myself a connoisseur of the Miami Art Scene and not have stepped foot inside Dorsch Gallery until tonight! I stopped in tonight for the Bubble Art exhibit I heard on the talk thread, and went beyond the main entry hall. The raw concrete floor, the exposed masonry block work, the nooks, the crannies, the turns just beg for artistic creation. The exhibits tonight ranged from a cot made out of bank deposit bags - perfectly symbolic of the recession - to fluorescent colorful "stacks" and even a Great Pair of Legs on the floor. The coup d'grace is the outside patio where an local band was playing. It is an architectural hodgepodge of a patio slab, grass, and pavers. The patio roof itself is another marvel with two different types of wood framing. Of course, there was the requisite comp bar (which unfortunately I passed on tonight) and also a little picnic table outside. The acoustics weren't that great, but we're not a hoity toity concert hall but at a cool end-of-summer backyard party!
