After months and months of our old 14 yr old furboy having treatment for a corneal ulcer with no…read moreimprovement by Dr McCurdy and the visting vet opthalmologist from Oahu we felt it was time for our boy to have his eye removed to avoid any further pain and also continuous eye drops/surgery/invasive testing. It was a hard decision to make but Dr McCurdy totally understood and was prepared to go ahead with the surgery, as were we. However, when Dr Mc did a final inspection before going ahead, to our great surprise, he found no ulcers!!!!!! You can't imagine my relief after so much soul searching! The eye drops and scratch surgery had worked! Even though my old soul baby was going blind he was not going to lose his eye! So much relief and realization that Dr McC's treatment plan had worked made me so happy :) If you read my previous reviews you will see that Dr McC saved my goofy cat's leg after he snapped it in two, with surgery and a few well placed screws, and now no limp or any after affects. Dr McC worked miracles with my soul boy's eyes and now he can keep his golden eyes. Honestly I haven't had a vet this good previously and I've been a pet owner for nearly 60 years! I won't use another vet on island. Dr McC is a rockstar. You basically can't get any better on island and I would heartily recommend him for your pet's medical needs. He is empathetic, has a great bedside manner with both pets and their guardians, and has a fantastic knowledge of anatomy and his staff back him up, making a great team to work with to ensure your furbabies are at their peak health.

As it was only 7.15am they could by the time I arrived at 8.15am. They charge $270 for an emergency appointment, $370 if it is before 8am so my driving time worked to my advantage. The staff took my cat into a room without me, don't know why, and it made me uncomfortable as I wanted to be there for him. The vet came out to tell me his bladder was plugged and needed emptying. I was given 2 options, one in house where they keep him for 3 days at the surgery $5K, the other for them to sedate and unblock the urethra/bladder and he is taken home$1k. I chose the latter as we can look after him at home and give him meds etc. The staff were great, from the gals at the front desk to the vet and vet techs. Very friendly and informative and even forgave me bringing my poor puss in a Trader Joes zip up grocery bag! (I couldn't find where hubby had stored his crate and it was an emergency so I grabbed the first thing I could find in the garage....it was the way I brought him home as a kitten too after I found him dying on the Maui Costco lot!). Emergency vet treatment is always a big hit in the pocket and Central is definitely up there, but we have no vet clinic on the west side now so there is no alternative :(

Dr. Jill Mitchell was absolutely amazing, guiding us with warmth, patience, and understanding through an incredibly difficult time. The receptionist (I'm sorry I didn't write down her name. I was crying so much. She sits by the cage in the lobby) went above and beyond. The entire team treated us and our Bella with care and respect over the two days we were there, making a heartbreaking experience feel a little more gentle and supported. Even though it was very sad, we'll always remember the tenderness and dignity they gave our sweet Bella in her final moments. Because I was going to manage a LOT of moving parts to get this guy back to Oregon! Both Angie and J were so available and kind and took a lot of phone calls while I wrassled with how to get timid Lou home (in cabin, in baggage); in the end Angie brought Lou to OGG curbside when I flew over from O'ahu and nabbed him, navigated security (GREAT KINDNESS from TSA people) and hopped back to HNL to catch my mainland flight! Can't say enough about these kind people. Lou is a wonderful cat, he's doing great, five weeks along since he's had food, love and care -- he's a normal weight, glossy fur, happy as a clam and having his true kittenhood, now that he's safe and warm!! The staff were all friendly and helpful and made sure my boys were comfortable. A full blood panel was taken to ensure my boys were healthy enough to go under anaesthesia, plus give us an idea how they are doing overall health wise. It was expensive for 2 dogs but worth it to make sure we aren't missing any signs of disease regardless of the dental. I drive from the west side to Makawao especially so my boys see Dr McCurdy as he is the best vet on Maui and has helped with my dogs and cat previously.

He needed his teeth cleaned desperately. Where I lived on the main land there were only 2 Vets that did dental and I was not established with either having my local vet. Moved to Maui and was family recommended to MVC. It cost me $2500.00 to have his teeth cleaned and yes they did a good job. My boy was in excellent health being we had to go through so much to bring him on island. Let's just understand I spent A LOT $$$. But he's my boy and money didn't matter. What matters is having his best interest be first and foremost. Now currently not needing any care since the cleaning, I called and asked for a calming med as New Years approaches and I was told no that he had to be seen. I consider this absolutely unacceptable !!!!! He's FOUR POUNDS !!! And he is EXTREMELY SCARED of fireworks !!! I don't think that was asking for too much . Clearly they want $$$$$ !!!
