When it came to planning our wedding, one of the most important things to me was to find the right photographer. What is the point of amazing decorations, flowers and food if there is no one there to capture the moment? After researching hundreds of local photographers, we narrowed the list to our top five based solely on their online photo galleries. Chris was the first one we scheduled a meeting with, and we ended up booking him the next day. Chris's philosophy at Shepard Photography matched our style perfectly; simple, clean and modern. We could not be happier with our choice. Chris includes an engagement session with all of his wedding packages, and at first we thought about trying to ask him to cut it out to save a little money. I am so glad we did not though, because the engagement session really was a great way to get comfortable with being photographed in a less stressful setting. As the wedding date neared, we met with Chris again. This time he wanted to check out the wedding site to get a better feel for what we were looking for in the final product. In that same day we traveled the extra half hour to our hotel where we planned on taking our wedding party photos. Throughout this meeting we put together a schedule for the big day and came up with a list of the photos we would like to have. We left that meeting feeling very confident that we had picked the perfect photographer for us. As the day neared the inevitable changes to the schedule needed to be made. Chris was great taking those changes, adjusting the schedule and getting us revised copies quickly. When the day finally arrived, Chris and his assistant/wife Angela were we right on time (unlike some other parts of our wedding entertainment). Chris was excellent working with our planner/caterer to make sure that everything moved along according to schedule. Seeing his past work and watching his professionalism had a calming effect on us during that stressful day. We knew that even if everything else didn't go perfectly we were going to get fantastic photos. We received over 400 pictures from Chris of our big day and they are fantastic! We would highly recommend him to any couples looking for a wedding photographer. read more

I know lovebirds don't like to think about what might happen if your wedding is cancelled or postponed ... but please make note of Chris' non-refundable clause in his contract. The deposit is non-refundable and the remaining balance is due in full if a cancellation is within 6 months of the wedding. Earlier this year, my wedding was called off 5 months out, and my family lost out on $3,000. He said he might consider refunding $2,000 of it if he was able to re-book the date and if I submitted a signed cancellation notice, but after I did so and paid the balance in full, I never heard from him again. After hearing me say such great things about Chris from our initial meeting, my mom found it hard to believe that he might not at least offer *some* service in exchange for the $3,000 he collected, such as a family portrait session. But when she reached out to him to inquire about it, her email went unanswered. In the interest of full disclosure, here's an excerpt from one of Chris' emails as to why he maintains the non-refundable clause: "I do need to protect my income, like most wedding venders, I have one to two cancelations a year. Even one wedding is a significant part of my income for my family. Since everything is booked up so far in advanced it is hard to fill cancelled dates with less than 6 months before the wedding." I scouted this guy for two years before asking him to shoot our wedding because I was so impressed with his talent behind the lens. I'm sorry to say I wasn't as impressed with his people skills. We interviewed and went through a half-dozen potential photographers for our wedding and chose Chris - and it was a great decision, as the final product he delivered was outstanding. We selected him because of his really unique "look" and style he was able to create for his clients, and in our case it truly captured what we wanted. Everything from the engagment session to the wedding shots was just outstanding and he didn't miss a single detail. I can only imagine how challenging it can be to deal with all the moving parts involved in a wedding, and ours was no exception. Details changed constantly and Chris just rolled with it, always patient and able to explain what he needed to do and articulating his vision for the final product. He also did a great job of following through afterwards and delivered our post-wedding photos when he said he would. He also dealt with some, shall we say, "delicate" family dynamics at the wedding with a really disarming personality and even made it fun. I would definitely recommend Chris for your wedding - there are a lot of things in a wedding budget but the photos are probably going to last longer in terms of remembering that special day. Chris was our photographer for our engagement and wedding photos in 2014. On both occasions we had to both email and call Chris numerous times to get a response. We even had to threaten legal action against him and his business to get our wedding photos. Currently, we are in a struggle to get our wedding album that we paid 800 dollars for. We have left 3 emails and called twice and still we have not heard back from him and mind you our wedding was in September. Chris Shepard has zero punctuality and is honestly taking advantage of people monetarily on some of their most important days. We are now out over 800 dollars for a wedding album we still have not received. The only choice we have is to take legal action to get something we already paid for. With that being said you can make your own judgment on if you want this guy being your photographer on you or your families most precious moments. At this point in time I wouldn't allow him to photograph me folding my clothes let alone a wedding. If you look at all the other review its the same problem but always an excuse. Chris is amazing - we love him. He recently photographed our wedding, and last year did our engagement shoot. His services and packages for wedding photography are flexible and customizable - definitely a plus and sets him apart from other wedding photogs we researched/interviewed. As a camera-shy person, I was astounded by how comfortable I felt with Chris, and my husband and I both really enjoyed working with him. He is so professional, yet so down-to-earth and genuinely kind. We chose him because of his creativeness and spectacular eye for shots, but we couldn't have ended up working with a nicer person. He captures amazing shots quickly because he is so good, and he was very un-intrusive during the reception. I didn't even notice him following us around, but when I wanted to get a picture with a guest, I would turn around to look for him, and he'd be right there! Another great example of Chris' professionalism - we were running behind schedule ~1 hour midway through the reception (I didn't know that), and Chris checked in with me, volunteering to stay a little later than scheduled so that he could capture everything we wanted. Then, after a 1/2 hour, he let me know that he got enough great shots to feel totally confident - I appreciated his honesty and professionalism so much! He is very conscious of clients' wishes but also their budgets. Picking the right photographer was a big deal for us, and we were SO lucky to get Chris. I can't wait to see all the final images from the day-of (he's already shared previews!), and I still can't believe how much fun the photography parts of the wedding ended up being - all credits to Chris. read more

So we were really happy with Chris at the beginning and during our wedding. He answered all our questions and even did a really cool personalized engagement session at Disneyland, which was so much fun! At the wedding he did a pretty good job, I have a few minor things (ex. pictures I would have liked to have had, he didn't take), however, part of that was my fault for not asking him for them to begin with. We had a little bit of a problem after the wedding with getting our album and prints. Luckily, he finally contacted us and quickly got us our album and prints in a timely fashion. I think there was some issues with his emails and the server that was set up. However, all of that seems to be solved, so I would recommend Shepard Photography! read more

As a wedding photography myself, it was extremely difficult to choose a photographer. We found Chris after he photographed a friend's wedding. My husband and I did an initial consult with him via Skype and instantly felt super comfortable with him. He's very laid-back and easy to work with. And his photos definitely speak for themselves. From the engagement to the wedding, we got some pretty awesome photos that are now on the walls in our home and in a beautiful album. I can't say enough great things about Chris! He was a lot of fun to work with, and did a beautiful job with all of our photos. My now husband and I don't live in the Sacramento area, and he was willing to drive to Monterey to do our engagement session and then down to Pleasanton for our wedding. He is very creative and gave us tons of wonderful shots! The day of our wedding, he was both very flexible and very thorough in getting a variety of shots. When our pictures were done and ready to be viewed, I couldn't believe how amazing they were! They were exactly what I wanted to remember our wedding, and I know that in years to come I will still love to look at them and to have them up in our house. Chris is THE BEST photographer I have ever met. He has been taking our family pictures for the past 5 years and I couldn't be more pleased with his work. Every year he amazes me with beautiful pictures that I am proud to share with my friends and family. I have two little girls (one very energetic and the other very shy) and Chris is patient and able to capture terrific pictures even though he has to work around my kiddos' unpredictable moods. When we chose Chris to do the pictures for our wedding we were really excited about how talented he was. We met with him and he was very friendly and personable. Fast forward to after the wedding pictures. He did ok on the wedding pictures, but there were very few of my husband and myself up close. The majority of the pictures were from a distance so far away that you couldn't even tell it was us in the pictures. After the wedding it took 2 months for him to email us the pictures so we could preview them. After that point he was very hard to get ahold of. We submitted our approval for our wedding album the first week of September. By November, we contacted him wondering where our album was and he didn't even know that we submitted the approval. So on November 8th he said that he was going to order the album. He said that we should receive the album within 4 weeks. The week after Christmas we emailed him about the album and he never responded. We emailed and called 5 times in two weeks and received no response. I posted a comment on his facebook page and he deleted it within minutes. Chris is not cheap and is WAY overpriced for his talent. We just want our wedding album. Do not use Chris Shepard, he will steal your money! read more

Chris did a wonderful job as a photographer for my daughter's wedding. However, I've now had the same problem others have posted about on Yelp. After purchasing a wedding album for my daughter and mother-in-law, we wanted to purchase one for ourselves. I've sent numerous emails and called many times. No return email or phone call. We hired Chris in October of 2012 to photograph our September 2013 wedding at the Granite Bay Golf Club. I had researched many photographers and he was extremely highly rated and won Best Wedding Photographer on the KCRA A-List for 2012. We both loved his website and after meeting with him, we booked him on the spot! Chris is very professional but also very personable and easy to work with. He shot our engagement photos first and had them ready within a couple of days. They were so beautiful! Chris has a very cinematic style and takes time setting up each shot. But he's also very flexible and will work with you to get exactly what you want. On our wedding day, Chris was very professional and worked with the other staff (videographer, coordinator, make-up, etc.) to get the most amazing photographs possible without being intrusive. Everyone commented on how professional he was. Our wedding photos were so beautiful and elegant, we couldn't have been happier! I've read some of the other reviews, and while I understand there may have been a time period where there was some delay due to a health issue, it was a small timeframe considering Chris's lifetime career. He notified us as well as his other clients about his health and apologized for any delays in email responses and we were more than happy to be patient. Once he was able to, he was very happy to get everything finished. People should understand that when someone has a serious health condition, there may be a delay. Sometimes life throws us a curveball and we never know when it will happen. Some people have no compassion for these things. Be careful when judging others because you never know when something might happen to you. We were very happy that everything turned out okay and Chris is healthy!! read more

We stumbled upon Chris Shepard's wedding photos (now called Electric Sky Photography) while searching internet images of the venue chosen for my daughter's wedding. We loved his photographic talent, and found his basic service fees to be comparable to others in the area. He is very personable so was easy to connect with during the photo sessions. He captured the desired images thoroughly and quickly. Although the engagement session had to be delayed for good reasons on both sides, he got the photos to us timely so we were able to print some for the wedding. On the wedding day in June, he arrived promptly with his assistant to capture the pre-wedding photos and all throughout the event. It rained some during the outdoor wedding, but he kept shooting in spite of it and got some great photos. With the rain came an awesome sunset and stunning shots captured perfectly by Chris. The wedding photos were posted and available for download in less than two weeks...amazing! The shots were wonderful and captured the essence of their fabulous wedding day. Although a photographer is one of the more costly parts of a wedding, their talent is invaluable to preserve these precious moments. I would like to take a moment to thank a wonderful photographer, Chris Shepard of Shepard Photography in Roseville. Chris was the photographer for my son and now daughter in law's wedding on July 31, 10 at The Grand Island Mansion in Walnut Grove. Chris was amazing and with his assistant Dominic, captured all of the beauty and wonderment of the occasion. The Mansion is such a wonderful wedding venue that it allows such great pictures to be taken at all times of the day and Chris's style and talent was evident in every beautiful shot that he took! I believe that so many become complacent in their jobs, but Chris shows a very new and exciting style of photography and his energy and professionalism was a vision to watch as he would go from shot to shot without really knowing he was there. Chris shared his time line with our DJ, Sounds To Go, Justin Prahar and worked with all vendors in a most professional and comfortable manner. Chris is truly a vendor that you can work with and count on as well as your other vendors will enjoy working with him. I have been to weddings where so much was staged that the people looked like they were posing and stiff....not so with Chris. Every shot was of a casual nature and showed the care and respect of the event. I am beyond disappointed in Chris Shepard Photography or Electric Sky as he has now renamed and branded himself from all the previous negative yelp reviews. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THE PERSONABLE CHRIS SHEPARD. We found Chris on theknot early 2014, got married August 2014 and have not received the photo album as promised. We've tried contacting him through email, phone, social media and he just fell off the face of the earth. My frustration got to the point where the only way I was going to get his attention was to call him on on social media. My sweet husband told me not to and gave him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he's sick, maybe he has personal issues, etc. When we met Chris he was very professional and likable, everyone was impressed by how he handled himself. It didn't seem like him to not be responsive. So I listened to my husband and patiently waited. Months passed, and now a year and 2 months since our wedding and he still hasn't contacted us. I looked him on yelp and read the reviews and was shocked to find that I was not alone in my situation. Who is this other Chris!? How can he do this to someone? How can he just take newlyweds money and memories of one of the BIGGEST days of their lives and not follow through with what was promised? I am more dissapointed than anything, because this is someone I considered a friend since he shared one of the most important days of our lives. He friended us on facebook, and soon after we tried to contact him via FB messaging, he defriended us and we couldn't even post anything on his wall because he probably had experience other people trying to get his attention and call him on out on FB. All i want is our money back at this point. I don't want to deal w/ this anymore. It literally shook me up when I saw him recently active on social media. I showed my husband, "does this look like someone who is ill to you and can't produce our album, or have the decency to call us to explain?" I would have atleast appreciated the latter and gave him more respect. I have lost all respect for this person. Just imagine if this happened to someone you love, sister or daughter. At this point, I don't know if all this is worth but the principal of it just drives me crazy. Chris, if you see this, please respond to us. It's the least you can do. I don't want to go the legal route where I see others may have gone. It took me so long to even write this because I was still hanging on to the hope that you had a legitimate reason. I've lost all trust. IF I don't hear back, I will have to resort to other matters. To all others, it was hard for me to write this, but at the end of this, I don't want this to happen to anyone else, and it's the least that can come out of this NIGHTMARE. I can see on his new website, which has since been secured w/ a password access only (not sure if it's coincidental that I found it yesterday, and saw him using my WEDDING PICTURES on there), he is no longer offering albums, atleast I couldn't see it. I find it so hard to see that he took the time to create a brand new website, new name and all,and use my photos in there, and not have the decency to contact me back regarding my album that he still owes me. read more
