We had an amazing experience spending the day with Keith and Diane! Firstly, what a delightful…read morecouple and what a beautiful boat. Keith is a knowledgeable and calm captain. He was able to teach and encourage our mostly novice group of five about how to stay safe on the water, how to find the fish and most importantly how to set the hook, fight the fish and successfully land the fish in the boat. He was so patient with my 87 yo father in law with dementia! Diane has such a bubbly personality and quickly made everyone comfortable. She gave us great tourist tips including Oyster River Potholes for swimming and Willow Point Reef for viewing starfish, anemone and urchin at low tide. Diane kept us well fed and hydrated with her tasty home smoked salmon, salmon salad sandwiches and a cooler full of drinks. During our five hour trip, we were able to quickly catch our limit of chinook and then enjoy fishing for coho and ling cod. Our cooler was full and dinner that night was delicious! We will definitely be returning!!

Zack took an incredible amount of time for our tour and gave us a personalized adventure.  We were also blessed to see whales, porpoise, urchins, starfish,  seals, sea lions. He knew all the places to go and gave such an amazing insight of the different islands and mountains. He also gave us snacks and beverages from locally sourced places. Literally we could not have asked for better and it was even more amazing than we could have imagined.  When we come back we will ONLY book here.

Once we were on our way, the learning began! Did you know that oysters are one of the most sustainable forms of aquaculture? Or that one little oyster filters a bathtub of water per day, keeping our oceans clean, pristine, fresh and beautiful? We learned so many incredible facts about his family oyster farm, the innovation they are adding to the industry, oysters as a species and the local aquaculture. The boat has both inside cabin space and outside deck space, making it great to enjoy the sea breeze and spray, but also shade from the hot sun. Captain Zach has an incredibly deep knowledge of the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound, pointing out mountains, islands, bays and even rock formations, and added a depth of history to everything he shared. His passion to share this area of Vancouver Island is contagious! We saw a pod of dolphins, sea lions, eagles, all sorts of waterfowl. At no moment did we feel rushed, it was a beautiful leisurely day on the water - that also kept at 3 year old happy and engaged all day - and ended with the a delicious feast of oysters. We all had a blast and can't wait to be back.

Two weeks ago, I called them about renting a powerboat for 2 weeks to explore the Hakai area north of Port Hardy. There was time available for the boat I was interested in and I was ready to send them a deposit, but had a couple questions for which I wanted a written response. They seemed irritated that I should have questions. I sent them an email asking if charts would be provided for the trip, if the boat had an inverter, if the heads flushed with fresh or salt water, if spares and tools were onboard, and what type of heating system was on the boat. This is information that other charter companies provide on their websites and are reasonable questions, especially in consideration of the remote area in which I planned to cruise. After about a week, I received a response saying that these questions were technical in nature, and that they would have to have someone research the answers for me, and they were leaving for the weekend. Really? That's of concern. How does their fleet manager schedule preventative maintenance on the systems aboard their boats when they don't know what systems are on the boats? Lack of preventative maintenance could ruin a charter trip. The last time I called them, they just sounded irritated with me and still didn't have any answers. If this is how customers are treated when they are trying to spend $8,800 with them, just imagine how you'll be treated once they have your money. I'm going to spend my money elsewhere. If you decide to do business with these folks, I would suggest that you insist upon paying with a credit card, as other charter companies accept. It may be your only recourse for action should things go bad. Caveat emptor...
