We went up to Mexico Beach yesterday for fresh seafood and stopped at Shell Shack. I got 3lbs of Grouper filets, 1lb of Snapper filets and 1lb of $10.95/lb Shrimp. The man and woman behind the seafood counter were friendly and hustling around. They have better deals on "beach stuff" than some of the other stores. read more

As always, Shell Shack never disappoints! BEST fish dip I've ever had in any place... in any country. Thursdays at 2:30 is when you can get it, and you'd better head over because there's no guarantee they'll have any left by Friday (but check!) It's that good. Get some fish steamed too and take it back to your place. And get some trinkets from your time at Mexico Beach. Say hey to Nick, James, and everyone else there... they're the best! Infinity stars for this fun, friendly, delicious place!!!!! read more

LOVE Shell Shack! I'm addicted to their fish dip they have fresh every Thursday. I made my mom bring me some back home last week because she got to go over to Mexico Beach and I couldn't. She deliverered it from that coast to our coast over here in St. Augustine and I sat down with it, my saltines, & my wine and was in heaven...THANK YOU SHELL SHACK! Love, Summer read more

Fresh seafood. Staff is ridiculously nice. You can bring on your seafood and they will clean it and steam it. Fair prices.

We bought fresh shrimp and red snapper. Both were excellent! Location was very convenient as it was just across the street from our VRBO. I highly recommend. read more

staff was super friendly and helpful in answering questions/giving advice for how much fish we would need. Scallops and crab cakes were outstanding! We got the shrimp, snapper, grouper, scallops, hushpuppies, and crab cakes. We loved everything. Priced reasonably as well. Definitely call around midafternoon to place your order the evening. Overall, a wonderful dinner! We will be back the next time we are in MB. read more

Shell Shack is a Mexico Beach classic, even older than I am which I know because I spent many days there as a young child being babysat by the family owners and hanging out in the shop and home. When I visit now, I have to stop by still, though everything has changed. But it's still the best shrimp you'll find, and take a tub of the fish dip too. There are also shell gifts and fun finds, and it's a must stop for the true Mexico Beach. read more

First time staying in Mexico beach and stayed for 8 days. We went to shell shack 4 times during our stay and it was phenomenal! Nick helped us out every time and told us how much we needed (just my boyfriend and I) and how to prepare it. They also steamed some snow crab, oysters and shrimp for us with different seasonings. Steaming only took about 20 mins even on their busiest night and it went by even quicker as we got to browse the store. Golden tile and snapper were delicious. We will definitely be back next year!!! read more

Came from PC with my fiancé for a beach day and wanted some seafood. Looked for nearby places that we hadn't been to before and found this gem. For a place that sells seafood you couldn't tell at all. The place was SOOOOOO clean. As you walk in you cannot smell any seafood at all which is so surprising. We got two lbs of steamed shrimp, they were very fresh and priced very well. They have a lot of souvenirs for tourists as well. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Very good experience and glad to support local. read more

OH MY GOSH. The steamed shrimp to order was fabulous. The fish dip was beyond amazing. Next time we get back to Mexico beach will return.

Much nicer than your typical tourist trap places. Wide selection of very nice items. Don't be afraid of the fact that it's also a fresh fish store - it doesn't smell fishy at all! Very pleasant shopping experience, friendly staff. read more

Great steamed shrimp! Price is the best you'll find around too! Plenty of choices for spice level as well. If you are coming off of the beach, this is your lunch spot! read more

Was on vacation in Mexico Beach with my sister and stopped at the Shell Shack to check it out . The owners are amazing . I think it's a Mother and son running their store working hard . They have all kinds of fresh seafood, good information about their products.. They also have a amazing gift shop !!! Everything was at least $10 less than other stores.. Now that made me smile. Definitely looking forward to go back and find some more treasures... read more

Snow crab seasoned with Old Bay was awesome. Very fresh and right on time. Ordered scallops, but will definitely come back for the shrimp.

We got snow crab legs steamed with Slap Ya Mama seasoning and the small shrimp steamed with Old Bay seasoning. Service was excellent, and he didn't mind our questions. Crab legs were so good and the shrimp was delicious! Tender, not over cooked, and perfectly seasoned. We stayed across the street, so transporting the food back to where we were staying was no problem. Will probably buy some more shrimp before we leave! read more

We had a lot of red snapper, they told us they would clean the fish for a dollar a pound, we had 80 pounds and they decided to take half of our snapper to resale including our 10 pound snapper we caught and we never got to enjoy it (cook it), don't let them clean your fish, they will rob you. read more

Excellent steamed shrimp! Small unassuming place. Part gift shop and part fresh seafood. We will patronize again when in Mexico Beach.

Shell Shack came highly recommend by Mexico Beach regulars and it did not disappoint. Super friendly, super fast service, shrimp/crab legs/fish all looked super fresh. Had enough souvenirs to pick something nice but not too many to be overwhelming. We purchased shrimp and crab legs and had them steamed in-house with Old Bay and Cajun seasoning. We took them back to our condo to eat that afternoon and they tasted great! Highly recommend. read more

This is my favorite place so far on my vacation. We have been here four times and can't wait to go back for more. The first day, we got shrimp and T-shirts. The second day, 2 pounds of shrimp and smoked fish dip. More shrimp and now a tuna steak! Everything is so tasty to the point of addiction. I love the staff A+++ personality! **** TIP - the smoked fish dip is only made on Thursdays and it sells out fast! It was ready and "2-ish" and almost sold out by 3:30!!!! One of the best places to grab fresh seafood in the Mexico beach area, as well as plenty of seasonings and a light grocery selection. And, if you're into beach kitsch this place has a near limitless array (see photos). Racks on racks of tees, kissing dolphin statues, seashell nightlights and much much more! The people who run this place are pretty friendly, and if you can tell them a couple of good jokes they may even cut you a deal on some crocodile heads! read more

If you're into sea shells like I am, then the Shell Shack in Mexico Beach is the place to be! As its name obviously suggests, the Shell Shack sells shells. A lot of them. Tons of them. All kinds and all colors and all at competitive prices. They also sell all kinds of other gift shop type items as well as sea food. I can't comment on the sea food since I hate sea food. But if the shells that the Shell Shack sells are any kind of barometer, then I'd bet that their sea food is also top notch for those people who are into eating the things that live in the aforementioned shells (and, alternatively, that swim in the same water where the sea shells are located). Need a gift for grandma or for the rug rats back home? Need a shell to complete your bathroom seascape? Need some (ewwww!) sea food? You can't go wrong at the Shell Shack! read more

While on vacation we stopped in & grabbed some fresh shrimp to cook at the house & some souvenirs. The shrimp needed a lot of cleaning (part of the fun!) but was very fresh, large, & tasty! The store has tons of shells (hence the "shell" shack) & great prices on fresh seafood. A great benefit was that they didn't close down from 2-5 pm like 90% of the towns shops & restaurants do. Pretty sure they were cash only as well. read more

As the Yelp headline reads. "Woohoo! as good as it gets!" As a retired person, I eat out a lot, and have more disappointing experiences than good. Shell Shack is a happy exception to this rule. Of course, I don't eat there, but I carry out -- especially steamed shrimp -- at least twice a week when I'm in town. Fresh, high quality seafood, fair prices, competent, friendly staff. Headed there soon. Love it! read more

Fresh seafood at a good price. The gift shop was cute and had something for everyone.
