It's only about a mile from I-26 / US 74. If coming from the highway, take exit 33 for NC 191 / Blue Ridge Parkway. On a Sunday morning around 11am, this gas station and convenience store were busy with a variety of customers including families with children and out-of-towners like us. We even ran into our Airbnb hosts. I guess this place is befitting of its name. I'd never heard of the Hot Spot chain before this visit. At the time of writing this review, there are about 40 locations in the Carolinas. They're mostly in South Carolina, with multiple locations in the greater Greenville, Spartanburg, and Asheville areas. In North Carolina, I spend most of my time in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) and Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point). There are no Hot Spots in those areas. I pass through Greenville and Spartanburg regularly on my trips to and from Georgia. However, I almost always fill up at a QuikTrip along I-85. It looks like there are only a couple Hot Spots along I-85 on that stretch. This Hot Spot has eight pumps. Apart from the branding, I can't say too much separates this place from other gas stations and convenience stores. It's run-of-the-mill, but also A-OK. I'd fill up here again. The price for premium fuel was in line with other more expensive gas stations like BP and Shell. The property felt clean and safe enough.

This place was functional and performed pretty well, trucks, buses and diesel RVs getting their fuel fix and following the protocols is standard operating procedure - I always have to go inside and pre-pay then return for the receipt of what I actually pumped, this is how it works at a truck stop. I stopped in to top the tank and got off pretty easy the guy before me pumped five hundred and sixty three dollars into his Peterbilt. I thought the aisles at the fuel island were a little narrow and could use a good cleaning but everything worked as designed and the high volume nozzle filled my tank in only a few minutes. The staff here was super friendly, maybe they are partial to truckers and maybe since I pump diesel fuel and use the fuel counter they think I'm a trucker too lol. They have all the normal truck stop thingy stuff - hats, belt buckles and skoals can lids made of sterling silver so after circling the property and exiting onto the highway it's hammer down like I had wings little gravels in my wheels going ting ting ting...

You know, it feels a little weird to write a review about a gas station. Yet, I feel compelled to…read morewrite about this one place. I don't live in Asheville, in fact I live very far away. I drive to Asheville a few times a year (anything to avoid flying with those stupid airlines), and since it's fairly close to where I stay, I will go there to gas up. Often when I've gone there, the attendant was outside cleaning the pumps or chatting up people. I don't know, it's just that there were some general good vibes. Is that weird? To me, it is a little bit weird in that almost all gas stations are places that skeeve me out. People watching is often entertaining and horrifying at the same time. Most attendants at these places obviously don't want to be there, and most of the time everything is dirty, even in the new places. So, yeah, it's a bit weird that I'm writing this. But, I wouldn't be writing it if it didn't affect me in someway shape or form. It has. It's not an earth shattering experience for most people, but it something I always notice when I'm there.
