Don't expect better service just because this location is new. Staff need better attitudes and better training.

The second time was a charm even though the line was long, it moved pretty smoothly. The lady moving the line along was like a conductor, quick to correct if you're in the wrong line. The kiosk was working so I was in and out in record time! Thank Goodness!

This is an open letter to the black security man at the entrance with the salt/pepper beard:…read more Dear Sir, I came in today, and you were nice to me. Thank you. I sat down on the bench by the office door like you told me to. I was next to a 20-ish black male. He and I both witnessed you absolutely verbally abusing the people that came through the door. At first I was amused...but then I realized you were unhinged. You called a white couple that merely questioned where to go "aggressive" several times. We saw the whole thing go down. No aggressiveness, except for YOU. We saw you talk down to a Hispanic male, telling him you KNEW he knew English and that he needed to take a seat and stop playing. (Are you a clairvoyant? How do you know the linguistic capabilities of people who just walk in the door?) We saw you berate a woman, a man, and another couple. Finally, the young man next to me addressed you: "Hey Security guard - I'm calling your supervisor. You're talking crazy to these people". You bucked up to him and challenged him to do so. And THEN - I witnessed you use some self control. You acted a little more professionally. This tells me that you are capable of being in control of yourself and that you were aware of your actions. There was NO excuse for how you behaved today. Even if I was not the recipient of your verbal abuse, I was extremely troubled with how you handled the public as they came in to do their business today. If I spoke like that at my job, I would promptly be fired, and rightfully so. You, sir, need to retire, find a different job, or go through some therapy. You are obviously too comfortable in your job, you don't like the people you serve, and you don't fear ramifications of your behavior. Oh, and the information you spat out at me like it was the Gospel was wrong. You are not God. You need God.

I believe upon and entering tickets we're given out prior to the line up so basically I guess that means that my ticket number represents the place in as it is understood to be. I heard a customer yell out about his disliking for the wait. Others nodding their heads in agreement 2 visit 11-3-2022 Ticket 88 I arrived at opening the call number that heard after receiving the ticket was number 66 so again hopefully this paints a picture of the wait time frame. All I can say is as for waiting this not conducive if you have littles to wait especially if it goes on after the first to the second hour. I can say that the staff behind the glass did say good morning when I got my ticket-- oh by the way seating is very limited especially if there's already a line formed so keep that in mind. You may not be seated until a seat becomes available so be prepared to stand Incase one wanted to know what number is in service/being called there's a brown box with the number light up in red above the service door

Usually, this full-service Tennessee Department of Safety driver license center nestled in the…read morebucolic, quaint, humble town of Oakland, TN is my go to for all things driver license related. However, the "Real ID" Act has caused a horde of people to rush the driver license centers like flies on a rib roast. If you don't already know, if you desire to ride in an airplane, on a train, enter a federal building, etc. beyond October 2020, you SHALL be required to produce a driver license bearing the "gold star" REAL ID endorsement. This isn't like an endorsement to drive a commercial vehicle perhaps, but rather a means of verifying that you are who you claim to be. You will have to bring a cornucopia of documents with you to achieve this feat. Long form birth certificates with raised/stamped seal, passports, valid US certificates or consulate reports, unexpired permanent resident card, W-2s, 1099 forms, Social Security cards, payroll checks stubs, home utility bills, current Tennessee vehicle registration or certificate of title, Tennessee voter registration card, IRS tax return, bank statements or payroll check stubs, current rental mortgage contracts or receipts, current homeowner rental insurance policy, current automobile, life, or health insurance policy, receipt for personal property real estate taxes paid within the previous year, installment loans, current employer verification, current drivers license or ID or handgun permits are some of the documents required to get a "Real ID". I've been told the worst part of this event is the wait. I'm not taking about the usually one-two hour wait it normally takes to navigate the driver license centers. Just today, a nice older lady was walking outside the Oakland Driver Services Center and I casually asked her if she got her "Real ID" TN driver license. She reluctantly said "no" in the same tone as she would when stating her grandchildren didn't call her on her birthday. Grandchildren...call your grandmas! Oh yeah, she said she waited four hours and still didn't get serviced. I overheard another lady enter this center early in the afternoon only to be told, "Sorry, we stopped taking customers at 3:00pm". 3:00pm? But you are a government entity who is open until 5:00pm. The lady said she took off work to come to this location. Another individual at the bank told me he walked in at 10:00am and was finished at 3:30pm. FIVE and ONE HALF hours ladies and gentlemen! How much is your time worth? Call you TN state representatives! At 7:30am, there were already 5-6 people waiting outside the doors. Get there early and you may be the first few to enter. All in all, if there are no distractions or difficulties, it shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes (once you have seen the clerk) to walk out those doors with a temporary paper DL card. The hard copy REAL ID DL card will arrive in the mail. If paying with credit card, you can complete your application via an electronic kiosk. If paying with cash or check, you will complete a paper application. Mr. Biles and Ms. Johnson were absolutely fantastic ! I truly believe the cause of all this congestion is not their fault. They are working with what resources and budgets they were given. Please be respectful and understand they are trying their best to help everyone get their driving road tests, renewals, handgun permits, and REAL IDs applications completed in a timely manner. Make absolutely sure you have ALL your required documents. Then, if you plan on coming to Oakland, call ahead and make sure they are "taking customers." So get ready to wait, bring a battery pack for that cell phone, carry a magazine or three, stuff that e-reader in your purse, leave your kids and comfort animals at home, pack a lunch or order in, and dress comfortably. Remember folks, Neil Paige and Dell Griffith eventually made it to their destination and so will you too!

When I first moved here from North…read moreCarolina, I tried to switch my license over to TN, because I wasn't born in America, they had to contact immigration for proof that I was legally here, SEVEN TIMES I came here to try to get my license and SEVEN times immigration said yes she is legally here and all her paperwork is in order, but her original paperwork is in her maiden name and this DMV refused to accept my marriage certificate, my SS card with my married name, my DRIVERS LICENSE FROM THE NEIGHBORING STATE in my married name, and all 7 pieces of paperwork from immigration stating that I am the same person, as proof of legal name change. I had to pay EACH time I went there to process the paperwork and for the license I never received. The last attempt was when the clerk said "maybe if you were born in America, things would be different for you" in a demeaning manner. People literally gasped hearing her say this to me. The supervisor offered to make me a drivers license in my MAIDEN NAME, which is ILLEGAL, because that person "no longer exists" since my SS card was in my married name and I had a full legal last name change. I then ended up going to the DMV in Millington and had no issues at all obtaining my license. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.
