While historic, the building is cramped due to population growth over the past century, and the plexiglass barriers also make it feel closed in. There is ample free parking at the strip mall across the street. The buttons for the crosswalks are out of order, but cars stopped for me. You can also park in front of the building if you don't mind that it's on street.

The conference room is open to the public and was in use by patrons. Staff are friendly and efficient. The area is very rural and not near a highway. You see signs of poverty from ramshackle housing to roads in rough shape so I feel the town is providing the library with the resources it can, they just don't have a lot. But it is put to use. It was especially good to see younger people there. In some towns the clientele is very geriatric and you wonder if support for a library will live on after they pass, but not here.

When I…read morepulled up to the building there was a decent amount of parking and the Town Hall was easy to find. The building itself is historic and seems well maintained. Walking into the building I was amazed at the artwork in the main lobby which was beautiful. When it came time for business, I was greeted by polite staff who quickly took care of me and answered all of my questions. Overall, I was actually surprised how polite they were! I had expected to speak with some bitter employees, which has been my experience in the past at other Town Halls, but I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. In the end I had a great experience and I have no issues with coming back here in the future.

This space is charming, cozy, and just classically awesome enough to be a portal to the rest of the universe. SF is a very small town. I can't recall how long Lewis has been the head librarian but he has always been very helpful to my family when we go in. He will often make recommendations based on what he thinks we would enjoy. Beautiful building as well. Weird side note, I just to have a reoccurring dream as a kid where the back stacks were about twice as high and went back two to three times as far. And there was a staircase that went along the back wall into a basement where there was even more books stacked. Well what happens when they redo the library? There is a staircase along the back wall that goes into the basement where there is another room of books on the stacks. How creepy is that?

The current city hall building was built in 1884 in a Gothic Revival architecture and actually served as the city's high school until 1951. It's right next to the library and there is paid parking behind if you have city business. There is also a Level 2 EV charger. The town is named after Colonel William Brattle, Jr. though there are no records that he ever visited the area. It is located in southeastern Vermont and borders New Hampshire. The staff is so friendly and helpful - stop by to say hello! From the Hinsdale Public Library Website: In 1866, the current library building was designed and built to function as the public library for Hinsdale. Mary P. Twinning started a fund for the construction and founding of the library. The Kittredge and Taylor families then contributed their resources. Leopold Eidlitz, one of the architects who worked on the Capitol in Albany, designed the library in an English Tudor fashion as requested by the Twinning family. He incorporated Gothic, Norse and Celtic touches to the building as well. Despite the wealth of ornamentation, the building was completed in only six months.
