Good service and quality food after dark. Probably the most consistent Sheetz in Motown. (9/18/2024)

I was super happy to see this coffee shop…read morewhile walking around downtown Morgantown, because I really needed a boost, and this place had what I was desperately in need of: caffeine! It was well past 2 o'clock, and I try not to drink coffee after 11ish-o'clock, because it usually messes with my sleep. But I remembered the words of a man much wiser than me who once said, "I never sleep, 'cause sleep is the cousin of death," so I felt like a lil' iced coffee would actually be beneficial, in this case. No regrets. The iced coffee was great! I always forget about iced coffee when I'm at a coffee shop, because I just usually order a hot black coffee. I'm so stuck in my ways, sometimes! But iced coffee was a good choice in this situation, and it came with a little vanilla cream, which was unexpected but a nice indulgence. The Grind is located right across the street from West Virginia University. It was packed when I visited, and I imagine it is almost always packed, because of its location. But the people who work here are very efficient and friendly, and my iced coffee was ready lickety-split. I got my coffee to go, but there are some tables inside the coffee shop to sit and relax, if you wanted to. One of my favorite things about The Grind is that they have a confession box in the restroom. I left a little confession in the box, because it promised that the box was "a safe place to share what you can never tell a soul," and I felt that I could trust this random coffee shop in West Virginia with my whole heart. I left my confession there, and took my iced coffee with me and went on my way.

Girlfriend asked a few questions about coffee and her responses were very vague and not helpful. Prices were also not transparent. Menu at front counter said breakfast sandwich for $6 with any bread and any toppings. That $6 is for just eggs... I got bacon and cheddar cheese on my sandwich and it came out to $9. Girlfriend's breakfast tacos said 2 for $8. She got sausage, American cheese, and peppers/onions. Those ended up coming to $12. Coffee was nothing special. We both asked for cream and sugar and both got black cold brews instead. Had to add our own cream and sugar (cream was empty on the side counter). There were a lot of people in there making it seem busy, but as we looked around we noticed most were on laptops working with just a coffee. Only a few people had food. One lady ordered a green drink, we watched her go back up to the counter and give it back. She stayed there and continued working on her laptop with no food/drink. This is a social media coffee shop. Loud music, seating like you would have in a living room with small tables, and a very California/hipster vibe. I would've given it three stars, because my breakfast sandwich was good, if not for the person that took our order at the front counter having zero personality.

I got a double cortado, which was quite good, and an egg, ham and pesto sandwich -- and they were able to make it gluten free. It was a tad light on the fixins so I was a still a bit hungry afterwards. But it came with a side of either chips, fruit or applesauce, and I took the chips to have as a snack later on the road. You can tell the owners put a lot of effort and care into their shop, and the energy is upbeat, though the lighting and flooring make it feel like you're in an office. Despite that, the coffee was solid, and it was very quiet early on a Monday morning while all the students were in school. Definitely an ideal place to get some work done!

Oh my gosh, they have an amazing array of everything you can imagine! From handcrafted in-house rose petal creamed honey, to peanut butter ice cream, to Eastern oolong teas. Today we got: Mushroom barley soup Caramel snickerdoodle Caramel latte Rose petal Earl Grey tea with honey and a splash of cream Creamed rose petal honey - made in house Chai scones Pup cup The owner and her staff are wonderful people. Her assistant even helped me carry my stuff out to the car in the rain and when I voiced my concern about him getting all wet he laughed and said "I won't melt". Lovely ambience inside as well. Such a great place, next time we are in town we will be back!
