But I remembered the words of a man much wiser than me who once said, "I never sleep, 'cause sleep is the cousin of death," so I felt like a lil' iced coffee would actually be beneficial, in this case. No regrets. The iced coffee was great! I always forget about iced coffee when I'm at a coffee shop, because I just usually order a hot black coffee. I'm so stuck in my ways, sometimes! But iced coffee was a good choice in this situation, and it came with a little vanilla cream, which was unexpected but a nice indulgence. The Grind is located right across the street from West Virginia University. It was packed when I visited, and I imagine it is almost always packed, because of its location. But the people who work here are very efficient and friendly, and my iced coffee was ready lickety-split. I got my coffee to go, but there are some tables inside the coffee shop to sit and relax, if you wanted to. One of my favorite things about The Grind is that they have a confession box in the restroom. I left a little confession in the box, because it promised that the box was "a safe place to share what you can never tell a soul," and I felt that I could trust this random coffee shop in West Virginia with my whole heart. I wanted to get a little something sweet, but when we visited in the late morning, there was nothing really in the display cases except a couple of muffins. This doesn't seem like the place to find a lot of baked goods, anyway. The restrooms here are something else. There are two very small rooms with toilets, and then there's a communal sink around the corner. It's not immediately apparent that there's a place to wash your hands that's around the corner, so I'm hoping that people figure it out.

You can tell the owners put a lot of effort and care into their shop, and the energy is upbeat, though the lighting and flooring make it feel like you're in an office. Despite that, the coffee was solid, and it was very quiet early on a Monday morning while all the students were in school. Definitely an ideal place to get some work done!
