My niece looked like an angel, or a model. So that solidified my opinion on where to go for special events. Then, this weekend, my daughter, my niece and I all needed services. I needed a Brazilian and a haircut, and my teenage girls needed cuts & colors. We invaded on Saturday and were there pretty much all day. And we actually had so much fun! Honest to God, I have paid 4 times the amount that we paid here for just my daughter's hair. Both of the girls look fan-freaking-tastic, and I love my hair as well! We all walked in with photos of what we wanted, and Rhonda listened, advised, and worked with us, so we all walked out with everything we wanted! The girls' hair looks amazeballs!! Especially my niece who had severely damaged her hair with non-professional dye jobs, WAY too strong bleach, and years of teenage experimentation and neglect. She walked in with fried, unhealthy, muticolored hair, and walked out with long, beautiful, shiny healthy hair that looks super natural. We have all three gotten several compliments on our hair. Yes, it's been a while since I've been there (I told you, the hair PTSD), but every time I go I wonder why the hell I procrastinated. She's a wizard with the scissors and hair color, but what really makes the difference for ME is the atmosphere. It's not that over-lit, overshiny, product-stinky kind of salon; it's almost like having your hair done in a comfortable living room, but not like invading someone's personal space. There are usually no more than two, maybe three clients in there at the same time, because it's a SMALL scale salon (not cramped, just not a bunch of stylists!). You *must* call for an appointment--it's not the kind of place you can just walk in and get your hair done. That said, I have gotten lucky on the one time I had a sort-of emergency (due to my own procrastination, of course). What's nice is with it being smaller-scale, you aren't going to sit and wait like you would at a bigger place. Giselle and Cecelia are both very friendly and personable, but will respect your privacy if you're not the chatty type. Usually I hate the mindless chit-chat at the hair salon, but with them it's more laid-back. OK, maybe you don't care about the chit-chat, but for those of us who do, it matters. I genuinely like them, and you can tell others do as well. Anyway, the business: honestly, I got the best damn haircut and color I've ever had there. She'll sit and discuss what you want, what will "work" for your hair, your face, and your routine, what colors will work for you, and the end product shows it. Haircut: $35-40, color: errm...I forgot. $60??? I never know for sure because I always buy the hair products when I go, too. Guess I should pay more attention...(duh)! Whatever it is, it's worth much more than the actual price. Now I feel guilty because I am desperately overdue for a haircut (and especially color). Argh. It feels like you're getting your hair cut in someone's living room... it's laid back, inviting, and always a fun time. There are just two hairdressers - Giselle and Cecilia -and I go to Cecilia but would be just as comfortable with either of them. Best of all, I consistently leave with an amazing haircut. No longer do I cross my fingers and hope for the best; now I can go in confident that I'll be leaving looking MUCH better than I did going in! My only complaint is that it is a little pricey ($50/cut), but you get what you pay for.

I've never had my makeup professionally done before but I was going to the Dark Horizion Tour concert at the Mobile civic center so I decided to splurge. When I got there I told the artist that it was my first time and that I wanted a look like the gothic purple on her website but with crimson reds. The artist would often would interrupt me while speaking or would straight up cut me off midsentence with "huh?" whenever I was speaking to her. She colour matched me twice, the first time it was perfect and blended in with my skin but she decides to try again and chose a tone that made me look orange compared to my pale skin. I have red dyed hair with mousy brown roots/ eyebrows and she decided to make my eyebrows pure black. When I spoke up about it she told me I just "needed to get used to it" and rub out my eyebrows to make them lighter. She was extremely messy with the eyeshadow and used way too much black. In her defense I do have sensitive eyes and I do blink a lot whenever someone who isn't me is messing with my eyes but I only did that when she was messing with my lower lid not the top so the eyeshadow shouldn't have been messy when it reaches all the way up to my eyebrows. Because of my blinking she had me do my mascera myself but she also gave up on flase eyelashes after two tries. The lipstick/ stain was crooked and bleeding everywhere, she said it was because my lip rings were off centered and it threw her off. Once I got home I had to remove all of the foundation, concealer, contour and eyebrows myself and I managed to fix the lipstick and eyeshadow with some cotton balls and make up remover and made it look reasonable. I'm writing this review because not even a week later my lips broke out and have been swollen and flakey since then. I've never broken out from lipstick before so I'm worried that the products weren't sanatized properly as I've never had cold sores before in my life or a reaction so I wanted to warn people here.
