I haven't had my hair cut in 2 years, so the length was WAY longer than I wanted. I ended up booking with Katie for my haircut. She washed and cut my hair. I got long layers with face framing bangs. I ended up chopping off about 6 inches of hair. Katie did AMAZING! I absolutely love how she cut my hair, it definitely helped boost my confidence again after struggling with having my hair so long. And for the price it's great. Most salons would quote me over $100 for a wash and haircut for long hair but not over here. The place is cute, it's small holding 3 chairs for service. I got a cut from Linda and it's super cute!! I permed my hair & got highlights earlier this year from somewhere else, so my hair has grown out where it was dry and wild and length was past my shoulder. This is my 1st time @ shear madness. I requested to go short with texture, she did a great job working with my permed hair and did not chop everything off. I met the other hair stylists there and they were all very welcoming and nice! Clean place & good vibes. To do a perm or highlight, their starting price was reasonable & not crazy triple digits. I should have taken a before picture to show the improvement :P read more

I had decided to trim my own bangs and it turned into a disaster it was Saturday afternoon about 2:30 and I was driving around old Torrance trying to find a salon that could help me and everybody was closed or booked I happened upon sheer madness the door was open but the closed sign was up but I parked and went in anyway and I asked Annette if she could be so kind as to fix my bangs at first she hesitated she already had a client in the chair and another one on the way but she was so kind and not only fixed my bangs but a great haircut as well she is just a wonderful human being and I can't say a five-star rating is high enough she deserves 100 star rating will definitely go back again and highly encourage anybody that needs a good stylist to go see her kind of tricky to find in the alley but well worth the visit. She is also an animal lover and rescues which makes her even better!!! read more

Had a mother/daughter day of transformation with Annette at Shear Madness. The salon is super cute and comfortable off an alley in Old Torrance, in a clean and brightly modern space. I was able to get an appointment via text which works for me much better than email or phone (the salon number is Annette's mobile). There's ample parking for the salon, shared with the dentist office. The salon is intimate, clean and modern. When you're getting your hair done, you feel like you're hanging out at your girlfriend's house, chatting it up with friends but getting a seriously pro treatment. Lulu updated my color, fading from my natural brown down to Pravana Violet, then to Pravana blue. She did a fantastic job. Lulu has an extensive background in beauty products of every type, so she knows just what to use and can give great recommendations for products to find on your own for any issue you're having. I had a very difficult time finding a hairdresser I could trust and love as much as my hairdresser from home that I have had for 9 years! And when I met Lulu, I knew she was the one. I love her hair and knew by the way she presents herself that she would take great care of mine. Lulu is amazing. I had never dyed my hair before and she took my virgin black hair to a light silver. What I appreciated most about her is that she was honest and warned me that the color wouldn't last long and that'd I'd need to come back for more treatments. I started seeing Annette Macfarlane at her Shear Madness Hair Salon at her South Redondo Beach Location on PCH about 18 years ago when she first opened there. I followed her from another Salon in Hermosa Beach. Annette fixed what my 80's punk rock, teenage-self did to my hair. I was in my early 20's and working as a professional by that time and my hair resembled tumbleweed. I had colored and bleached it so many times that it was very hard to look at and I needed it fixed. I had been going to a very fancy and expensive salon on Manhattan Beach Blvd where I paid a small fortune to basically have more damage done to my hair. Annette was able to put me on a hair improvement plan. I had to agree to do my part - no more over processing, no more getting my hair done whenever I needed a pick me up or was feeling emotionally needy. (Most hair stylists will slap some more bleach or dye on as that is money in their pockets) Annette really CARED that my hair would be as healthy as possible. She put me on a "hair diet". no more bingeing on hair color. I had to wait 4 to 6 weeks to recolor but she saved my hair! I am obviously older now but my hair is still in great shape given what I put it through. Annette is a consummate professional. She is beyond talented with hair cuts and color and especially restoration and fixing past bad hair jobs. She's my hair surgeon. She literally brought my hair back to life. She is down to earth and fun to talk to. She is not the phony, shove lots of products down your throat type of hairstylist we see all over LA and the Southbay. I think Annette Macfarlane is the best hair stylist in the South Bay of Los Angeles. She is a true expert. Her salon on PCH is great and her new salon in old Torrance on Cravens is even nicer. Clean, comfortable, doesn't smell like chemicals and is not on a busy street like PCH so windows can be open. Annette knows a lot about how to keep your hair as healthy as possible using the least damaging products. Annette's prices have always been so reasonable that I have told her to RAISE them. She is worth much more than she charges. I would pay double easily - but don't tell her that ha ha. Annette is not greedy or pretentious like many of the hair stylists in this area. I Just think she is great (been with her so many years). I don't want to give my hair secret away but she deserves it. As long as I can still get my appointments but I book way ahead. read more
