I rescued a dog from a Korean meat market through a rescue here in Sherman Oaks. His name is Andy. Once Andy was at my house I saw that he was no ordinary puppy. He was/is constantly frightened. Since getting him in October to today he has changed quite a lot...All due to help from Shay. Shay came over and assessed Andy and pretty much told me what to expect and how to handle situations. I had a dog but by no means am I as proficient as she is. She explained to me in detail why he exhibits certain behavior and what to do and what not to do. She has a lot of patience because I had to be trained as well. Not sure who's more stubborn me or Andy. Things are getting better but Shay is always there to help when I am at a loss. I cannot thank her for her ingenuity and patience. I highly recommend Shay, you won't regret it. A ton of gratitude.

What a life changing experience! I have a dachshund who became aggressive when anyone came over and even towards certain people walking outside, he barked at us when we were eating...he was a mess. After 1 session with Shay, we have a new understanding of our dog's behavior. He knows we're the boss now. Shay is VERY knowledgeable and breaks it down so that everyone in our family was able to understanding how to properly manage our dog's behavior. We are so grateful for her, and my sons agreed that she helped our family enjoy our dog so much more now.

    Finley walking with Zora!

We had our first training session with Shay and her dog, Zora, yesterday and I wish we had found her earlier! In one session, our dog was able to walk by other dogs without barking or lunging. My husband and I have been struggling with a very leash reactive rescue pup for several months. I didn't even feel comfortable walking him by myself. We had gone to another trainer in September who taught us positive reinforcement only methods, but our dog wasn't able to make any improvements. After a bad interaction with a stranger who told us she couldn't believe we let our dog outside, we were back at square one looking for help - that's when we found Shay. Luckily, we were able to set up an appointment with Shay within a couple days of reaching out. As soon as we walked outside and our dog, Finley, saw her dog, Finley lost it and was barking and lunging. Shay assessed Finley and within minutes, she had him sitting quietly. Shay is knowledgeable, experienced, and straight forward and clear in her explanations. She put a lot of emphasis on making sure we knew how to handle Finley ourselves and walked with us while we practiced. She made corrections when we weren't doing it perfectly, which was much appreciated because we really want to help our dog become more confident and well-behaved. We noticed Finley had more confidence around other dogs with her methods almost immediately. We know we will need to keep working on Finley, but we can't believe how quickly he was able to make such significant progress. For the first time since we adopted Finley, we can look forward to walks around the neighborhood!

Shay is one of a kinda. My friend and I each had a dog with very different problems. I had a 7-year-old collie mix with dog and food aggress. My friend had a Shiba Inu that was soo smart for her own good and was destroying the things around the house. My dog started to be dog aggressive at about 2 yrs. It got to the point, where I couldn't bring him anywhere with other dogs as he would snarl and start something. He came close to seriously injuring a smaller dog more than once. He took one look at my friend's Shiba from across the room and immediately went full wolf (growling, snarling and trying to get away from me to attack her). Within one session, Shay had them playing together like puppies, which I would have never thought possible. My dog has a tendency to find food on the street and there is just about nothing you can do to get it out of his mouth. He will semi-lock his jaw and has drawn blood from me with my attempts to get something half rotting out of his mouth. In our second session, he re-learned "leave it" in a much different way than any other trainer had taught him. When he tried to bite Shay, she quickly put him in his place and suddenly he was a different dog. Later in the sessions, my friend was holding the leash for both dogs on a walk and when we got distracted, my dog got a hold a bunch of hamburger buns from the sidewalk. To my surprise, I said "leave it" and my dog actually dropped it. I have never seen him do this-- usually, this would have ended in a semi-bloody battle where he still ended up eating whatever it was he had gotten ahold of. Yuki is now actually listening to my friend and has not destroyed a designer shoe since we did our first sessions. Shay was not cheap, but we only needed two sessions to get our issues solved, which made her services actually significantly cheaper than any of the other trainers I had researched. See Shay before she gets Dog Whisperer famous and has a waiting list.

I want the best for my puppies, so I asked so many different people where and how they trained their dogs. I received a few suggestions, but decided to do my own search...and I'm glad I did. Leo (Owner) and his amazing team of trainers TRULY care about the pups they train. Leo came to my home and wanted to meet me and my pups before I had to decide on making any decisions. After sitting down with him for about half an hour, I knew I found what I was looking for: Someone who wants me to have healthy and happy dogs. I signed up for the in-home training at first which is Leo coming to the house and training me on how to train my puppies (Archie and Charlie just turned 6 months and started with Leo and his team when they were 4.5). Very quickly, I realized I could not handle training both these puppies the way they needed to be trained. I discussed with Leo and decided to do a Board & Train. I like the schedule because I get to take the puppies on the weekends to spend time with me. Don't get me wrong, you NEED to train your pups on the weekends, but it's worth it and FUN. Archie has become the Puppy King (no offense to other puppies or their owners )). Charlie has a lot more energy, but has improved immensely! Leo's trainers are so caring. I feel my dogs get love with their training when they're not with me, and I couldn't ask for more. I see their excitement whenever I visit about improvements and milestones that Archie and Charlie achieved. They gleam with as much pride as I do. I honestly don't know where my pups OR I would be without the help of this AMAZING Team! If I could give 10 stars out of 5 stars, I would!

A few minutes later Leo called us and asked questions about the situation. Some basic tips he gave us over the phone saved our sanity until he came to our house a few days later for a free consultation. The consultation made it clear how experienced and passionate Leo is about dog training, so we decided to sign with him that same day. After one session we felt much more confident in training our dog and saw the "light at the end of the tunnel". Over the past 5 months and four training sessions, we have seen day and night improvement in her behavior. If you feel lost and out of control with how to train your dog or want to continue their training, Kelev K9 should be your first call. Leo is always ready to help out with any questions or concerns we have by text or phone call. Pricing is also extremely fair and was a worthwhile investment for us because we have our sanity back and have bonded so deeply with our dog through training. Thank you so much Leo, Breanna, and the whole team at Kelev K-9!

You can find all the classes that they offer on their website along with a calendar that shows approximately a month and a half in advance so you can plan around it. I initially wanted to start out with City Dog classes but they were full so I signed Cheska up for the Nature Dog class first. Brent teaches each series and he's very upbeat and makes all the classes fun and packed with knowledge. When I took Nature Dog, I will be honest I was really nervous and didn't believe that Cheska could be trusted on a long line away from me. During the first class we used 15 foot lines to practice and 15 feet felt sooooo far away to me. I'm looking back now laughing because now I'm using 50 feet of line at the park. In Nature dog you learn how to keep your dog within your radius, allowing them to sniff and explore within that radius while perfecting your dog's recall in this class as well as being able to tell them commands from afar and they follow it from farther than right next to your side. I feel like Cheska blossomed in this class and the trust between her and I sky rocketed. When I took City Dog class we met at the Topanga mall area and this is really where you get to train in real life scenarios. At this mall you've got people walking by, you've got little kids running at you from all directions, you've got other people with their dogs who are just hanging out in the area, and more. So many good learning experiences all in one place. Brent really does go through every possible scenario of what you should do if you run into these types of things as well as how to position your dog while in public. To top it all off, you will also learn using stairs, elevators and escalators with your dog! Seeing all our dogs going up one by one on the escalators is the cutest thing I've ever seen Lol. In the end, Nature Dog was my very favorite class and I believe Cheska excels in this. Being in Nature is what animals were made for. I am already signed up for Nature Dog 2 and can't wait. As soon as more City Dog series come out I will take those as well. With these classes Cheska is becoming well rounded and she isn't confused, she seems to understand the difference of scenarios when we go out. The goal has always been to be able to take her everywhere with me, and through the help of Brent, Hunter, and everyone else at Canis, this dream has come true!

While I do appreciate the fact that Alaina offered to refund her fee, I was trying to be nice and thought that she had given us her time, etc. However, after some time away from the situation and after attending MUCH cheaper / MORE helpful classes at our local PetCo, I now know that we didn't get really anything out of the two partial days she spent with us. Lesson learned. First example, she contradicted herself on more than one occasion confusing us and maybe even herself. We rescued a puppy from a shelter, a puppy that had been in quarantine and had come from another high kill shelter. She told us to get over where the puppy came from because the puppy got over it already...however she sites Pavlov and how dogs learn from positive reinforcement but how can they only learn from the positive, don't they also learn from the negative?? She admitted that she misspoke and didn't mean to. She mentioned that during our meetings, she has limited time so she sometimes rushes through things. Not good. Second example, on to our first actual meeting (the consultation), she spent AT LEAST 1/2 of ours telling us about how she had clients that lived in $10 million dollar homes and other similar comments, as if this would impress us, really?? It felt a little slimly, used car salesperson anyone?? She did not give us the full two hours 'we didn't need it'. Third example, she wanted to take my dog for the day, I do not know where and was very confused because she hadn't made this clear to me. She said she didn't have enough time during our training sessions to really work with the dog. For whatever reason, this made me very uncomfortable. How are we going to work with our dog if we are not there?? I think she was probably going to take the dog to her trainer because she was more than a little perplexed by our crazy puppy. * Her walking technic would have killed the dog if we had implemented it. She wanted us to pivot the other way when she pulled. This would have never worked with our dog. * Walking should be fun, not THAT MUCH work for the dog or us! * The 'bonk' she wanted us to smack the puppy with pissed the dog off to no end, created more anxiety in all of us and the dog. * There is not a one size fits all for training any dog. * She sites 'bad dogs' for barking at her dogs while walking or standing in front of them. These 'bad dogs' are on their property, behind a gate. Why are they bad?? Aren't dogs supposed to bark at times? My dog, without her help, walks by similar barking dogs every day, looks at them and keeps walking. * We felt that she was always watching the clock, not really giving us the full hour training we expected. Live and learn. I have learned, love our local PetCo, Bridgitte gets our crazy dog and loves her.
