The Clarence Senior Center is my mom's home-away-from-home. She's 80 and I don't know what she or I…read morewould do without this fantastic place! The senior center's director is an amazing woman who really cares about not just her job, but for those for whom she does this job. And the activities director is also pretty fantastic. She makes sure the seniors have movie nights, exercise classes, relevant guest speakers, and even fun trips. There are a lot of volunteer opportunities at the senior center as well. The building is sometimes used as a shelter during storms, and some of the seniors will volunteer to work during these times. In addition, it's used as a polling place, where many seniors find opportunities to serve their community. My mom also volunteers in the kitchen sometimes helping to prepare meals, at the front desk, and wherever else there's a need. She has delivered meals for Meals on Wheels through a program at the Clarence Senior Center. Every month we get a newsletter in the mail that outlines all the great programs that are available to members. Some things are there every month: weekly Bingo, Pinochle, Wood working, and a few other things. But then sometimes there are local trips, like to the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute and restaurant. They occasionally have mystery tours as well, where the travelers signed up don't know where they are going until they get there. Those are always fun trips (I know because my mom has asked me to join her on a few of them). If you've got a parent or loved one who is looking for somewhere they can go to play cards or Bingo or just to hang out and meet other seniors, this is a safe and welcoming environment. I live on the edge of Cheektowaga near Amherst, so coming to town hall is about a 10/15 minute drive for me. You can take care of your typical legal business here, such as tax payments, dog licensing, etc. I've visited here twice for both of these reasons. It's a semi-dated building on the inside, original architecture mixed with some 80's elevator system or something (I don't know the exact date the elevators were put in, I'm just making them seem old here). If I recall correctly, part of the building was under repairs during my last visit. There's plenty of signage telling you where you need to go, at least! As long as I continue living in the town, I'm sure I'll find my way back eventually.

You come in the main door, Straight, Make a right through the doors, Go all the way down the hall, You wait for security to ask which shot your here for, then follow his instructions. The first shot is a short , left away. A guy comes out, checks your paperwork (so did security),then has u wait til ppl are moving inside. I was taken very fast. They'll call you to a table, take your photo ID, check on the computer to see if you're good to go. Then she / he just jabs the needle ,but u don't feel a thing. Then you go to another seat to wait to make your 2nd appointment. I did that quick & easy. Then, they advise you to stick around for at least 15 minutes , just in case you have some kind of reaction. This was quick, easy & painless . Time for me to go home. =) Oh, all the medical workers and other employees are alllll super nice. You need that for something like this, in case you have a nervous person. These ppl can calm you .

Volunteers cooked and stirred the chowder all night long. Totally delicious and I don't know how they sell it for only $4 a quart. If you ever get the chance try some!! Although it's small, this library ticks most of the boxes for a successful community anchor (as…read morelibraries tend to be). Firstly, there are postings everywhere for community events, like a free concert in two days. Other signs announce free classes, as for crocheting. Secondly, the librarian on duty recognizes the patrons, and calls them by name. Many arrive for the free internet usage. (It's a Federal initiative, to make the Web available to everyone, regardless of income). Thirdly, there's lots of large print books, magazines, movies on CDs, and many large comfortable chairs. The children's books are in a separate room: Both rooms have lots of art. It's a small library, so the parking lot is small; hence a 30-minute parking limit.

This is such a great little library in our town. You can just go in and read a book on the comfy…read morecouches. They always have great new books to read!! Donna the librarian is fabulous! They also have a wonderful toddler's program as well as a never ending book sale with great titles.
