We have…read moreused Liberty for years, but after yesterday's experience, I thought I might enroll in a tax prep class and start doing my own. The service was okay at best. They honored our appointment time and gave use cold water and some forms to fill out. All normal stuff. Then came the fun part. I was a contract worker for 6 months last year, and I knew that that was going to hurt us this year. We were prepared to be not getting anything back or even paying. That absolutely was not an issue, and we expected it. What we were not at all expecting was the hidden fees (and I state this because nowhere can we fine the cost). And when I say this, I am itbeing petty, at all. I almost had a heart attack after she was done with our taxes (less than an hour of work btw) and she told us our cost. Again, we have used Liberty for years and never had any problem. But, when she finished and told us it was going to be 700 bucks for the service, almost half of what we owed the government, I swear I saw my soul leave my body. She was nice and lowered it to 620. What did we get for this this amount, you maybe asking? Well, I worked as a mechanic on contract, and she refused to look at my receipts for tools. Everyone I worked with stated that those can be written off. She may be right, but all we got was a smug "no" when I stated I bought tools. She maybe right, but after we left, we started thinking of her smugness answer and the fact that her smugness answer and us not following up kind of torqued us. (Partly our fault, granted, but for 700 bucks, you'd think she would have explained why) But, maybe I'm wrong. Anyways, if you want to overpay and feel like you're a complete looser, go to Liberty Tax. Cause apperantly, taking their free tax class and then charging 700 bucks and not explaining anything is all you need to work there.
