A little pricy and pretty tasty, but not great. I miss 2nd Street Shawarma, so I had to give this place another try. No beef today, only chicken and lamb. Bummer. I wanted to get the combo, so I got only chicken since lamb isn't my thing. Could've used more chicken and less rice and salad. For the price and portion, I wasn't satisfied completely. Also not thrilled that the two people who ordered after me got their food first. How'd that happen??? Considering I hate the mall and I wasn't satisfied, I doubt I'll be back for this overpriced food.

Let's start with the name of the place: Shwarma House. If you thought you could get Shawarma here, you're sadly mistaken. Nothing called "Shawarma" appears on the menu. It just says "sandwich." When they ring it up, it shows up on the receipt as a gyro. Semantics aside, the lamb sandwich was pretty much what you might expect from a mall food court gyro. A spiced lamb mixture sliced from a vertical rotisserie topped with tomato, onion and white sauce. It wasn't the greatest gyro I ever had, but if you happen to be at the mall, you can definitely make worse food choices.

    Pita and Hummus, not worth

I came here on 1/21 in mid-afternoon with a friend who absolutely adores Shawarma House for a tasty lunch or meal. I was really impressed with the flavor, and we had no issues with service: there was 1 lady working, who prioritized our orders since we came in person. Pros: - The meat is SO tasty! I had the lamb and chicken, both of which were well seasoned. The lamb was carved off the rotating skewer (döner) and the chicken was grilled as soon as we ordered it! - The saffron rice in the combo plate is HEAVENLY!! The flavors and spices were delicate, and restaurant quality! - I got the white sauce and hot sauce, each complemented the other. - My friend got the lamb sandwich (meat, salad, etc, in a pita wrap) and she loves it, it's her regular order. Cons: - Extra sauce was 50c extra; not much, but most places add it for free... - Pita & Hummus was disappointing; the hummus was simple and tasted store-bought - A bit pricey; the combo plate is ~$10 and the sandwiches are ~$7-8. Overall impression: I'm definitely stopping back here for some shawarma in case I'm in the area! I had a great eating experience!

The food is fresh and tasty. They make it to order. So, the bread isn't soggy, and it comes out hot. This place exceeds expectations of a mall food court. My husband thought his chicken shawarma would be more garlicy, but my lamp gyro was perfect. Good job, Shawarma House!!

I was a bit skeptical at first of food court gyros, but this place is excellent! I can't say enough good things about the lamb gyro! Go get one! They cook them fresh right in front of you. I have been here a half dozen times and the food is always fresh and delicious! I'm honestly shocked that the other reviews have been negative. I'm a very particular eater and I haven't had a problem.

Lamb on the rice, lamb gyro, beef shawarma (top left).

My sister actually bought the gift card from the local flavor. We had the lamb on the rice, lamb gyro, and beef shawarma. The lamb is very good, and my sister especially like the rice. The beef was tasty, but I think we prefer the lamb. People are friendly and the prices are not too bad. I think the total came to $21s. Will definitely go back again when shopping around the area. They honor the local flavor without any problem.

Quick and delicious place for lunch. Looks clean and better alternative to the same old pizza, subs and other junk at the mall food court

But people congregate there and just talk to each other its the complete opposite of a convenience store where you just want to get in and out as soon as possible. the people seriously talk about the weather when theyre in line at the counter, and then they ask if all the foods fresh, i mean in vietnamese too. i'd want to know if it was fresh, but it takes forever sometimes, it just upsets me so bad.

It's in a yellow house and it's actually quite a cute little grocer. A little tight moving around but you can pretty much find quite a selection there, from spices to vegetables to canned goods. We were hoping they had Munik spices from Indonesia; we've not found a place that has this brand yet. *still looking* Some of the boxed items seemed old. I wanted to try this almond agar agar stuff and the boxes were stuck to each other - like the boxes had gotten wet somehow. This is why this place got a 4 star from me. I really didn't like that. Additionally they were light on produce. We also saw sesame balls at the register. No one in Va. makes them right now, and we've not had any for months and months. We saw two hard old ones there at the register. Ew. Just throw those things out! But we did ask the man about them and he said "Come on Wednesday after 3, 4 or 5 pm and we have everything fresh". So maybe I'll be trying to go there again Wednesday or Thursday and see if they have sesame balls or fresh cakes, and see if they have more produce then too. I thought their rice was expensive. $12.95 for a bag of jasmine rice! Kim's is $12.75, and we can get it in Va for $9. Sam's Club here has it for $8 but it's a different brand (Elephant). But my husband said their spices were a lot cheaper than other places. So I guess it all evens out - as long as you don't by the $12.95 bag of rice! LOL

It's located right off of Paxton…read moreStreet, near the intersection of 29th & Paxton and with easy access to i-83. they have all kinds of imported stuff from the orient, mostly korean, chinese, vietnamese, thai and indonesian. they have some meat and fish and fruits that i've always been suspicous about, (is it fresh or not, and if it wasnt would you tell me anyway, even if i asked politely?) i used to get certain types of food here, like oxtail and triple. sometimes they have it, sometimes not. there are sweet cakes, soy milk, longan, leche, durian, clam meat, fish, squid, cocount milk, crab meat, fish crackers, pineapples, corn, mie, noodles, .... pots, pans, plates, steamers, wonton skins, potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, single eggs, tomatoes, tarot, jackfruit, tofu, spring rolls, beansprouts, lettuce, jalapenos, bread rolls, vietnamese hoagies. a vietnamese hoagie is only 1.75, but well worth it is mega spicy and sweet at the same time. its basically a roll thats glazed wit ha sweet sauce, sliced orange & white carrots, sliced pork and jalapeno peppers. DELICIOUS!!!! they do have some types of indonesian herbs, spices and ketchup, seasoning stuff like that. but i have noticed short-dated items, and at least 1 item that had the expiration date blacked out (it was expired). Little Saigon is a staple of the community though. they guys who own this also own the jumbo buffet building next door, it also has a quiznos, Xpose nail salon and car repair shop, Autorizon. These people are seriously nice, they teach me one word of vietnamese each time I go there. And they usually have three indonesian people there too, so its cool i can practice my indonesian skills, which are terrible. They have bulletin board when you first walk in that has various ads and messages in vietnamese that advertise cars for sale, apartments and houses for rent, nail salons available, church services, transportation and so forth. There is usually a lady at the cash register, and they only take cash, credit or EBT.... and it actually IS wheelchair accessible. pulling out of this place and trying to turn left is impossible, but parking is usually alright. update 6-23-08 this place is under new ownership, they've changed things around, lowered some of the prices, but not make the vietnamese subs to-go for only 3 dollars, but ill tell you its not quite what im used to, good but not great.
