I had been hearing great things about this place for a while and I finally booked him through their website and he came home So Happy! He said it was clean, normal and chill. I had chosen the wrong custom cut but the guy told him what to choose next time and charged him less. He said, "the guy had all kinds of razors in there." Hate to give a bad review... the stylist was nice guy. BUT... Wow... that was the weirdest hair cut experience I think I've ever had. 1. The stylist was working at Shake Shack until Tuesday and then somehow working at a "premium salon" 48 hours later. No apprenticeship, no previous salon experience. Just walking in the door to do $50+ men's haircuts. 2. The haircut was uneven, on both sides. 3. I wasn't offered any product for my hair after. 4. At one point I was asked whether I wanted a few random hairs cut. That was a first. 5. At one point someone came in for a walk-in, but was turned away with no availability. My barber called out the front desk guy's name but was ignored. The guy left and afterward my guy said "hey, I was available, I don't have anything after this, do I" to which the front desk guy said "No. Too late now." Unreliable! I've been using Shavery for a few months after moving to Mill Valley as they are the closest to me. Today was the 3rd time in about 6 visits I received a cancellation notice hours (at best) before my appointment. For a barber that makes you book weeks out, it's infuriating to never know on the day of your appointment whether you will actually get a haircut. While I've been mostly happy with the haircuts, I can't recommend or use this place further as you simply cannot rely on them to hold their appointments. They will cancel you on a moments notice for any reason, then take no accountability for the situation. read more

My first and last visit I had a 9.15am shave appointment. Received multiple reminders of my appointment. When I arrived the person scheduled to help me , was not in, with no one else to fill in. I struggle with this review. I think the barbers are talented and the new location is nice. However after being a client for a little over a year I was told my service will nearly double in $$. I get a 3" undercut on the nape of my neck with a simple chevron design. That will go from $40 to $70!! What a bummer....And my cut was crooked today when I left. Double bummer. The past two times I have come in to get a haircut, I have received the worst haircuts of my life and will never be going again. The hair cuts are uneven and never what you ask for. The barbers never listen to what you ask them to do and end up taking off way more hair every time. I even provided pictures both times! Then on top of a poor haircut that is uneven, and not what you want, they ask for $$$. Does not make sense. Christian is one of the barbers that I have had in the past who actually gave me a very good cut, but the rest of all the barbers for the past few years have given crappy cuts. read more

Unfortunately when she left I tried other barbers at that location and other barbershops around Marin... no one compares to Laya! She is always friendly, takes the time to learn about her client and learns how they want their hair cut, and most importantly she is a VERY skilled barber. I have particularly challenging hair to cut... it is stick straight and has a mind of its own which requires some special attention and a skilled hand to be shaped how I like... The Shavery has really just gone down hill. More and more money for less and less. Every time I go in there's a different set of barbers and they seem to get me out the door faster with a haircut I'm just not happy with. I was a little annoyed when they moved to a cheaper location, behind the building, and raised their prices... but at least I still got a good cut. I just left with a cut I'm not happy with. I was told if I want a 3 guard on the sides and a 4 used for the razor (no scissors at all) it would be $70!! Then when I left I was aggressively asked for a tip twice. The Shavery is like hanging out with friends. Great banter, great service and everyone working there loves working there and it shows. I have the worlds most difficult hair to cut which has been pointed out by nearly everyone who has ever attempted it. Steve took on the challenge and his work is art. This is a warning for future customers of this shop , if you like your hair stay away. I came in today first time to get a hair cut , I explained in detail how my hair is cut and how my beard is trimmed and the barber josh seemed to understand . The haircut was done nothing like what I explained, the barber tried multiple times to fix it with no luck , than he started my beard and there I just stopped him as I saw the same thing that happened to my hair will happen to my beard . I ended up shaving my hair off to take off the weird thing that he did with my hair . The barber saw my frustration and decided to charge me 15$ instead of 60$ . Honestly I don't mind paying 60$ for haircut but I expect the person cutting to know what they are doing, I wanted to tell this guy that he should pay me as it felt like he was experimenting on my hair.... I have the same haircut in 10 years and it was the first time I walked out of a barber shop angry . This was a really bad experience - and to top it all the guy is trying to sell me product while I keep telling him that he doesn't even know how to cut hair , anyway be adviced to make sure whoever cuts your hair will do what you want and not try and guess . read more

I haven't taken the time to write a review before but with the horrible lack of service from this business I want to warn others that the owner has no regard for clients time. On the first occasion I made an appointment I ended having to wait 30 minutes before being seen. On the second occasion I showed up at my scheduled time just as someone was being sat with the stylist I was scheduled to see. When I pointed out to the owner that I had an appointment he told me I was just going to have to wait. Why bother making an appointment if the owner is just going to ask you to wait indefinitely? I've been to this place a few times now and it's the best in Marin. It's an SF quality cut/trim with SF quality barbers. I typically see Josh (big red beard!) who is flawless so I recommend trying to find a spot with him if you can, but I've seen everyone walk out of here happy no matter who the barber is.
