The prices were a little bit cheaper due to it being a before 4pm showing. We easily parked outside the theatre. We got a large bag of popcorn and a drink. The prices seemed reasonable to us. The viewing theater was cozy and clean. The projection was good and so was the sound. Our recliners were a little sticky but I brought a towel to sit on. The air conditioning was perfect. We enjoyed our movie and will definitely be back.

Of course, no trip to the movies is complete without a stop at the concession stand. We ordered light today since we just had lunch. We ordered some pretzel bites, tater tots and a couple of sodas. As we got settled into our seats the food was being made. It got turned around pretty quickly so that seemed like a good start. The pretzel bites were cold on the inside so I took them back to be remade, which they did. It was much better the second time around. The tater tots were nice and crunchy on the outside, which I love. Of course, if you pay extra, which we did, we got some aioli and sriracha ketchup to go along with the tots. The soda mix was a bit odd tasting so I tried the mix from another fountain and it was better. The seating inside was nice. Well maintained and clean. In some theaters the seats have seen better days being cracked or ripped. Not the case here so it was nice. I gotta say that the air conditioning was working overtime today and it felt like the North Pole in this place. Be sure to have a sweatshirt or something to help blunt the chill. Overall this was a good experience if you want a well maintained and clean theater with pretty good customer service. Escape the heat and the insanity of reality for a few hours with your loved ones at this theater. We will go back for sure.

2 DRINK LIMIT Y'ALL!!…read more Didn't realize the alcohol cut off was at drink #2. Went to watch a movie on Saturday night and boy was the drink police manning the counter. Good job, buddy.. your manager would be proud. Hahaha! Note: Stay away from mixed drinks! I ordered a tequila drink off their menu since I was told they don't do straight or neat. That drink (I forget the name) tasted like an old plastic, expired concoction. Yuck. I saw them opening single serve plastic bottles... Since I was solo, I didn't go back to change it since I was already comfortable in my seat. That had to have been the worst drink I've had in my life! The Truly, on the other hand, was good.. nice and cold! :) As far as the food goes - they do have a decent selection of other items besides popcorn and a hot dog. My son usually gets a burger and fries, he rates it 4 stars (LOL), I'd rate it 3 max, unless you salt the fries with the popcorn salt shaker. I hate bland fries. Popcorn isn't always fresh, sodas aren't always carbonated fully, recliner seats aren't always welcoming. Some have been completely scratched up by cats - or at least that's what it looks like... I think they've reupholstered sometime recently, but I guess some people really work out that material, cuz daaaaaayum.. it be shredded up! Lol! The drink holders are another story.... *Queue the barf sounds! Okay, they need to hire grandmas, not kids, cuz these people are NOT doing a proper deep cleaning!! But that's just my opinion... Prices are crazy. A movie for 4 people runs us over $120-150 easy (without alcohol)... they also don't offer military for all showings. Or at least that was the case for me. Most showings are at less than half capacity, so you can usually rest assured you won't be overcrowded with others around you. That's probably my favorite thing about movies now, compared to before!

"Such A Scream" - Tom Waits…read more For a screaming good time (15 minutes), come to the Haunted Plantation to lose your voice if you're easily scared, just don't expect a lot of scenery. PARKING: You have to park on the street on Malakeke (free). Don't pull into the parking lot of the Haunted Plantation thinking you can sneak by, you'll get turned away or caught. Crossing Waipahu St was like being in a live Frogger game; only later did the police show up to direct/stop traffic for pedestrians, which was very much appreciated. I don't want to be a real live ghost at the corner after being squashed by a speeding motorist. PRICE: $21.00 cash only. You have reserve your time slot online, then go in person and pay up the cash. Stand in the line that leads up to the metal cubicle that opens up to magically reveal a table that will take all your money. ATM on premises. TOILETS: Port-a-potties. Dark too. Don't drop your phone into the abyss. DRINKS and THINGS: It was really hot in October. We ended up buying bottled water for $2 at the "snack cubicle" - another metal cube that had water, juice, candies for sale as well as those glow stick necklaces that light up and make you an easy target in the dark for the actors to scare. PHOTOS: No photography or video recording inside the HP. They are serious. If you get caught they will escort you off property. ATTRACTION: you wait in line at the entrance of the tunnel that leads you to the many cute plantation homes, the paths are lit with those mini candles on the ground. If you're lucky you're going on OCT 28, 203 SATURDAY on a full moon, so you can see better. Each home has a bunch of scare actors that dart across you, come up to your face, skittle on the floor, jump out from behind doors and corners, slam and pound the floor and boards. WEAR SHOES. One of the actors meant to slam the floor with his foot only to stomp on my husband's (protected) foot. Scared people may back into you and step onto your feet as well. If you're easily spooked, you'll get a lovely thrill and scream your head off. My son didn't scream once, but he's not easily scared. My husband screamed once. I screamed the whole way. I wish there was more scenery other than dark dimly lit rooms. There was only one memorable one, a barber-shop that had some light in them. If the owners of 17A are reading this, let me come do the mood lighting for future haunted plantations, I can make the houses a LOT scarier with blue, green, purple, red or orange lighting or a combo. I do my own haunted scenes at home and use theatrical lighting to make things pop. TIPS: Take cash, pee/poo at home, wear covered shoes, drink cold water in your car before walking over, wear diaper. RETURN FACTOR: Only if my vocal cords can handle it.

Initially, our main goal was to get Taho from One Three HI, however they were not there so we didn't get to have any Taho. HOWEVER, we did one lap around and ate some other food: TAKO4U: It was the first time I had Tako4U and we had the Yakisoba and the Most Valuable Chicken (aka MVC, which was Karaage Chicken) with the Honey Mustard mayo. I didn't get to try the Yakisoba, but the Karaage Chicken was really yummy. The mayo and karaage flavor didn't over power one another too much, so it was a nice balance that also maintained the crunchiness of the chicken. Additionally, I followed them on instagram and we got five free Takoyaki balls with the Yakisoba! The Takoyaki was definitely a bit bland, but still delightful nevertheless. ISLAND MANAPUA FACTORY: This vendor was also a first time for me, and I would say it was okay! I'm a HUGE fan of bao buns AND char siu, so I was really looking forward to trying their Char Siu bao buns, but it was alright! The bao bun itself was really good--quite fluffy and the perfect texture, but the char siu slices were unfortunately a bit too thick and it was cold and hard to chew. Next time, I'll try the chicken and duck, but I do think that the char siu slices should be a bit thinner! I will say that if you are wanting to try different bao buns, you are able to mix and match if you want, which I didn't know until after I ordered! THE AGUA BABE: Also another first for me, and it definitely was my favorite vendor of the three we tried today! We had the Lava Cloud, Lilikoi Dream, and Ube Paradise and ALL THREE were absolutely AMAZING! The drinks were light and such a perfect pair with any dinner/dish at the night market and their flavors were SO on point. The Lava Cloud was very coconut heavy while the Ube Paradise was mostly horchata, but with the perfect amount of Ube Poi drizzle to add a fun twist. I WILL be coming back to try all the other different flavors for sure! The vibe of the entire night market was so precious! The live music was awesome and the singers were pretty interactive with the crowd, and the family friendly vibe was awesome (there were a ton of kids having fun today which was such a fun sight to see). Even though it was my first time at the Village Market, I WILL BE BACK and will definitely be trying all the other vendors! :)

Not the biggest nor the most popular but one of the best for foodies…read more Huh? One, the market schedule is consistent. Every Saturday 17:00-21:00. Pearlridge. Old Sears parking lot. Two, it's not overly crowded, you will always find a seat in the large, covered eating area to enjoy your finds. Booze and live music a plus if you're into that. Three, the vendor list is not booked solid with regulars (ie What the Truck where you will see the same vendors event after event). This means lots of new, first time vendors or those from other parts of the Island who can't get a spot at the sold out, established markets. A reliable IG post of the exact vendors who will be at the Market the morning of allows preplanning; who to visit, what to eat, even if it's worth your time. Additionally, the price to be a vendor must be low meaning generous portions and reasonable prices (if you attend a lot of these events around the Island, you'll quickly learn when the price of participation is high, food quantity drops and prices are several dollars higher). Add a great layout with plenty of space, a handful of family friendly vendors, and onsite local kine friendly security and it's a solid experience. So yeah, not the biggest, nor the most popular but one of the best for foodies.

"Crazy Rich Asians"…read more I saw this fantastic movie four times prior to this! I went with different friends in Kaneohe, Honolulu, and in California! Each time was enjoyable and thought provoking! So...when my friend, Amy M., suggested that we see this movie AGAIN, I said "yes" right away! I had been to this venue several times before this. I knew the drill... go early and park for free across the street at South Shore Market in Ward Village, then stand in line outside the gate to the IBM Courtyard. The gate is supposed to open at 6pm. That's why we aimed to be there at 5pm because the seating is first come, first served, except for the HIFF (Hawaii International Film Festival) members. They get a special line and enter first. The walk-in people get in last. There are monitors who decide when to start the next row of people when the line gets too long. The monitors also check tickets and distribute wristbands. This Valentine's Day evening was rainy, so a tent was in place. There was also a table filled with bags of complimentary popcorn for each guest! The comfy sofas in the front were reserved for people who won VIP Seats via an Instagram contest! We were early enough to sit on the slightly padded wooden folding chairs in the first row on the right side. The middle section's front row had reserved seating for the HIFF Members. The movie started around 7pm when it was dark enough. Overall, this is a unique venue because of the cool Hawaiian trade winds. In the summer, when it's not raining, there's no tent - which allows a beautiful view of the sunset colors in the sky! The fancy restroom is convenient. Food trucks and restaurants are nearby so you can bring your food in and enjoy a totally wonderful experience!

Some people even brought umbrellas (worth it during the rainy months). Bring your own snacks and beverages! Check-in starts at 6pm. The actual showing begins at 7pm. When you get your bracelet upon checking in, get yourself a seat then you can go in and out (grab a poke bowl from Paina!) Seats start filling EARLY, at least for Free Solo (maybe it was particularly popular?). If you have a big group, get there around 6pm.

4/6/2018 HiFF: "Jimami Tofu"…read more Just to clarify: that next time you hear "foodie" make sure to remember this film: "Jimami Tofu" I will no longer associate anything else in my head on the idea of food films till I see one better than this in "food" concept films. There have been a few but this one has connections to humanism and coming of age. Or the concepts of life! No Awesome romances/ no direct humor. And even as good as "Tampopo" was for me, compared to this film It's missing the hint of "secret sauce" that should be the love that comes from the chef and his connection to that food. "Jimami Tofu" has that. It's that extra intuition, the "ahha moment" in culinary when you know- adding or Leaving out something is best. If you want that divine intervention of "Love" unabandon, the chance to break free from authority to give your self the chance to see it through without boundaries. This film speaks it endlessly. As individuals we can forgot our beginning roots and have formulated walls and specific speculative thoughts / perspectives. Your Food in up bringing grounds you. It beckons the extra memory of what we loved, how we loved and who we were loved by and vise versa. "Jimami Tofu" has resolved that somewhat critical thought: critics are hated for being like this--- and shows us the audience what's important to our lives and what passions get contented through with food! HiFF has chosen great films Like these and I found the ratio of English to Japanese a real fresh treat through out. I'd love to see this film Again! Mahalo Yelp :) I hadn't been to the Convention Center before so I wasn't sure what to expect ... it was big, clean, and easy enough to navigate. Glad the tickets were free because parking is a $10 flat rate. The room was huge and the market took up half the space .... lots of room for many more vendors next year :) I specifically went to visit the Milolii Love, Storybook Entertainment & Shaklee booths ... www.MiloliiLove.com www.healthyliving808.com www.storybookhawaii.com ( see pics.) Was impressed and inspired by all these talented Mom's ... very nice and beautifully presented products !
