My family and I love Sharkey Theater. I've been to many base theaters around the globe, and this is probably the nicest one I've experienced. The seats are very new, modern, comfortable reclining chairs with cup holders in the arm rests. It used to be free for active duty, but now they're charging $4 for all adults, $2 for kids 6 and up, and kids 5 and under are free. They generally have some sort of kid-friendly movie as a matinee on the weekends. Then they'll have something a little more exciting in the afternoon or evening. I just went there last weekend to see The Tourist with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, and it was excellent. There's a small concession stand inside with very reasonable prices for refreshments. $2 for a "medium" soda that's about twice the size of what you would get at McD's in a "super size."

    Prices as of 3/22/14

Oh Sharkey how I love thee so! Sharkey Theater is located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam so you will need either a military ID or someone who can buy the ticket for you. You can't beat the prices of watching a movie here as it's $5 for movies and I believe $7 for 3-D (will have to double check next time I go). The movies are pretty recent and sometimes they have free sneak previews of movies to the first 400 customers. It can be pretty crazy at times, but sounds like Nat N. got lucky so who knows :) I like that the seats are reserved for movie premieres so no one can really hold a ton of seats for family/friends. Snacks are cheap and the soda machine has been fixed so no canned soda. For two people I can buy movie tickets and snacks for the price I'd likely pay for just movie tickets outside. Bathrooms are usually clean. I'm stoked they renovated the women's bathroom to now house 4 stalls instead of 2. Shorter wait time ladies :) The movie theater is never THAT packed and sounds are pretty good so no complaints from me :)

WOOHOO !!!! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Free Advanced screening!!!!! I Luv it!!!

Sharkeys had a great homey feeling and it wasn't packed. You can watch the movie comfortably and lowest prices in the island.

Tuesdays is the bargain day, all movies are $11 bux. I just went and saw the Japansese 3 hr flick, Kokuho....cinematic historical JP drama. Movie is long, but the seats that come with their own swinging tray and the ability to recline, with a leg rest, allows one to just sit back and relax....however, I am digressing. I was so relaxed after the movie ended and the credits rolled, I walked out and left my phone on the tray. 5 mins passed before I realized, walked back, and phone was gone. Checked with management and had been placed into safe keeping in the theater office. Two great employees, both males, probably in the early twenties assisted me,.....it was 3 pm -ish on 2/24/26, so mgr should be able to pin them down, and sent a massive " thank you" from this spaced out patron. 2/18/26 Review Update:…read more Today I celebrated my anniversary with my partner and we went to watch Send Help. Lately when I go to the movies, there's never a lot of people. It's always just me and my significant other or myself and another couple. Kind of crazy to me because when I was younger, the movies would always be packed. Now here I am with my unlimited movies experience from Groupon ($21 for three months unlimited), and an empty room. I like to sit at the accessible area where the two seats are isolated and closer to the screen. I also purchased a snack saver coupon that will last all year. It allows me to have 50% off on a large popcorn and a large soda every time I visit. These two items cost about $21 so it basically pays for two visits worth which is not bad considering the savings you get all year, It's worth it if you go to the movies often. I enjoyed my experience at this location. Bathrooms are also very clean and inviting. Seats are recline-able. My only family would be that there wasn't a table like they have in Regal Kapolei Commons. What a great movie night! ---- I woke up bright and early today to catch the 7:30 AM premiere of Wicked: For Good at Regal, and it was absolutely worth it! I had 24,000 points saved on the Regal app, so I redeemed a free slushy and upgraded to a large for just a dollar. After rounding up for donation, they surprised me with a free pair of pink Wicked 3-D glasses. The theater itself was peaceful and almost empty, just our party of two and one other group. Overall, a perfect morning at the movies. Can't wait to go back!

I haven't resided in the islands since the mid-90s. With that said, I have been here for several shows and I purposely flown in for some and other were just the lowest of consolation prizes for having to fly away from loved ones due to my job taking me to another "twist my arm" experience = Stay on Oahu. I joke of course, but in earnest, growing up with the lights of Broadway and hundreds of concert venues nearby, I take my theater experiences very seriously and the Hawaii Theater meets any and every want/need one could dream of. For me it exceeds most. Please allow me to define... MY EXPERIENCES: I have been to a Christmas show, on my birthday, featuring Amy Hanaiali'i and, the much beloved and missed, Willie K (R.I.P.), which included a wonderful meet and greet. On another visit to HNL I just happened to be around for a Beach Boys show and was fortunate enough to get a ticket for it. And most recently, I flew in for a showing of The Princess Bride which featured a meet and greet of Cary Elwes. AT THE TOP: The President of the Hawaii Theater, Gregory Dunn is super humble, very polite and amazingly professional in every aspect. Best of all, he gets involved in the pre-show activities be it guiding folks to where they need to be or ensuring we understand the process of a meet and greet. Ya gotta love when there is no job below those in charge. He sets an example that many could benefit from if their eyes are truly open. SECURITY: If you have been to downtown Honolulu, you know it hasn't been a place that gets touted around the globe for it's cleanliness or safety. HPD has had their hands full over the years. Stores may have closed and some issues still exist, but overall I feel that the area has been improving greatly and adding to the return of a safer feeling neighborhood is the Hawaii Theater's security team. Yes, they are the most amazing group of people that one could want to see at an event. These guys are the, literally, the muscle that keeps things in order and flowing, from bag checks to ensuring reentry folks have wristbands. They operate like a finely tuned engine. As a concert goer that has been to well over 500 shows globally, I recognize these folks as the best. I will even go as far as to say that actually recognize some of them since my last visit a couole years back, which means that the team is sticking together. With that stated, not once have I had any safety concerns with these guys on duty... and still downtown can be questionable at times. STAFF OF THE THEATER: From the box office staff to those assigned to scan your tickets and give out VIP wristbands, these folks know how to keep the lines moving. Once inside there are strategically placed individuals, as one would expect. Folks there to give you direction to restrooms or concessions and then you have the ushers, those folks who are much more than a uniformed someone with a flashlight who is unfamiliar with the venue layout. These folks are amazing, they will get you to your seat in a timely, professional manner. Last but not least, are the bartenders... the fashionable, handlebar mustachioed bartender I met a few shows back was here again... and I always find him to be a terrific conversationalist (when time allots), incredibly professional and truly represents the venue as best as any one could. Put all these compliments together under one roof and you get one of the best theater experiences you could hope to ever find. You should come to downtown and find out for yourself... and you'll be a repeat offender, like me, (END NOTE: I fly in from the mainland for touring shows I could easily opt to catch on the mainland, and for a cheaper overall hit to the wallet. The Hawaii Theater, as defined above, is truly the deciding factor).

Walking into the Hawai'i Theatre, you're instantly transported into another era. An era of soft…read moreelegance and timeless artistry. From the moment you pass through the doors, you're surrounded by a blend of old-world elegance and Hawaiian warmth. Built in 1922, the theatre has hosted everything from silent films and Broadway plays to concerts and Hula performances. Today it seats about 1,400 guests, offering an intimate experience where every seat feels close to the stage. The acoustics are excellent, the seats are comfortable, and the staff and volunteers are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. There's also a small bar and lounge with high-tops, perfect for enjoying a drink and conversation before the show. Inside the theater, you see tall, fluted Corinthian-style columns that are richly detailed. The curved arch overhead is decorated with mosaic-style tiles in warm tones, and I absolutely LOVE the lush deep red velvet curtains that frame the stage. They add so much warmth and elegance. Having attended many shows throughout the years, I've always been mesmerized by the mural above the stage and decided to do some Googling while waiting for the show to begin. I learned it's Lionel Walden's Glorification of the Drama. The painting depicts a grand procession of mythic figures -- a golden-robed muse in her chariot, attendants, musicians, a lion handler -- all celebrating the power of theater. The central figure, often interpreted as the Personification of Drama, leads the way. Knowing that part of the mural was once lost to water damage and later painstakingly restored makes it even more meaningful. Parking is easy at the municipal garage on Bethel Street, just a block away. The short walk is now well-lit, a welcome improvement from years past when it was dark and sketchy. Entertaining audiences for over 100 years, the Hawaii Theater is a recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Attending a show here, you're not just watching a performance, you're also living and breathing a beautiful piece of Hawaii's historic culture.

"Crazy Rich Asians"…read more I saw this fantastic movie four times prior to this! I went with different friends in Kaneohe, Honolulu, and in California! Each time was enjoyable and thought provoking! So...when my friend, Amy M., suggested that we see this movie AGAIN, I said "yes" right away! I had been to this venue several times before this. I knew the drill... go early and park for free across the street at South Shore Market in Ward Village, then stand in line outside the gate to the IBM Courtyard. The gate is supposed to open at 6pm. That's why we aimed to be there at 5pm because the seating is first come, first served, except for the HIFF (Hawaii International Film Festival) members. They get a special line and enter first. The walk-in people get in last. There are monitors who decide when to start the next row of people when the line gets too long. The monitors also check tickets and distribute wristbands. This Valentine's Day evening was rainy, so a tent was in place. There was also a table filled with bags of complimentary popcorn for each guest! The comfy sofas in the front were reserved for people who won VIP Seats via an Instagram contest! We were early enough to sit on the slightly padded wooden folding chairs in the first row on the right side. The middle section's front row had reserved seating for the HIFF Members. The movie started around 7pm when it was dark enough. Overall, this is a unique venue because of the cool Hawaiian trade winds. In the summer, when it's not raining, there's no tent - which allows a beautiful view of the sunset colors in the sky! The fancy restroom is convenient. Food trucks and restaurants are nearby so you can bring your food in and enjoy a totally wonderful experience!
