I changed my appt time and they were accommodating since it was in advance. Unfortunately I was running 45 minutes late to my evening appointment and I gave a call to let them know. They were upset but they remained professional and charged a late fee for hair and makeup services, which is totally valid. Kathleen started on my hair first and was done very quick in like 15 minutes. It was a simple braid hairstyle and curling. I appreciate that she gave me advice on the way the braids should go so it looks best with my face shape and hide the breakage I have. Inna started on my makeup once I was done with hair. She was nice enough to remove my makeup for me because I was running so behind but you would usually come in with a bare face. She was the sweetest and definitely knew what she was doing! She moisturized my face and even my lips (I have eczema). Her instructions were clear and it did not even take that long. I got there at 4:45 and left at 6:30. The only downside is I would say the prices are kind of steep. The hairstyle was $60 without the tip. I could understand the makeup being $150 for full glam but I do not understand charging separate for lashes that were used. How else would you do a full glam? Honestly, I don't know Ruk's crew by name besides her daughter but I talk to everyone and everybody is great and super nice! Ruk is just a whole bunch of awesomeness. She knows I have no idea what the heck she's talking about when she's explaining stuff to me. But is trust her and give her full range on what to do. Whether highlights, lowlights, balayage, whatever! I know my hair will be taken care of and the products she uses won't damage my hair. They also added an addition to the salon. So, they also offer facials and eyelash treatment done by her daughter. This place is cool, hip, laid back, but get the work done. Depending on what services you get, expect to be here for a few hours too. Since this shop is in Bayonne, there is one street parking. My suggestion is to make your appt as early as possible to secure parking in the front or else you're going to end up driving around looking. I've suggested this salon to many people I know. I still suggest Ruk's salon to this day!

Then when that customer was trying to book an appt, you can tell Ruk was trying to have the customer book with another salonist. In the 3 hours I was there politics were discussed, high school teachers sighed in relief that summer school had ended, sisters translated for each other, husbands held onto children while moms got a needed break, and people smiled. I really wanted an ombre in blue, but 3 months of debating and searching and reading reviews meant I missed out on ombre groupons. Probably just as well. So I called Elena, told her what I wanted, she explained that the groupon was only for highlights and cut and blow-out. Oh. I made the appointment anyway. I figured that I would work it out one way or another and began searching pinterest for blue highlights. Yeah, that would work. Toniann was my stylist. She's a little fireball. I explain what I want, show her some pics from the web and off we go. Now I will state that my groupon did not cover all of what I wanted and I was cool with that. Toniann explained what all the charges would be BEFORE we did step one. There were no surprises at the end. My hair is subtle. Honestly, you really can't tell it's blue unless I'm in the sun. Is that a bad thing? No, I do at least *try* to look professional - it's hard for a biologist, though. I've had some health issues this year, so my hair has really suffered. Toniann noticed immediately, made sure that we worked on getting it back to healthy, and made me feel just a little bit better. No, they didn't offer me champagne and strawberries. She becomes rushed and careless, ripping and aggressively pulling hair, burning the scalp, and stopping the roller dryer before the hair is fully dry - clearly rushing through the service just to be done, instead of saying, "Come another day so I can do it properly." It feels greedy and careless, prioritizing leaving over quality and safety. Blowouts are left uneven, with noticeable patches still wet whenever she feels like rushing home. The pulling and excessive heat caused significant scalp pain, which continued even after I left the salon. My scalp was sore and tender, and my hair felt extremely brittle and damaged due to the lack of care and excessive heat. I was forced to re-wet and deep condition my freshly blown-out hair because it felt so dry and destroyed. So essentially it was pointless and a waste. She pulls the hair instead of gently detangling, even when it is obvious it hurts and even after you say something. She refuses to lower the heat on the blow dryer, despite visible clouds of smoke as she's blowing my hair out, clearly prioritizing leaving over client safety. Which she promoted someone to open the door when she saw the smoke. During my service, she was distracted, even telling friends to remotely restart her car while working on my hair. To make matters worse, she then tries to charge more for a very poor job. I have always been a fair and loving client. I've given advice on natural remedies to improve sleep and digestion, sent her links for supplements, offered tips on exercise and staying active since I am a wellness coach, and would offer her help when I heard her mentioning that she was at th doctors office. I am not a difficult or "bad" client, yet this treatment was unacceptable. I initially gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking she may have just had a rough day once before and I stayed away for weeks. Unfortunately, my most recent visit December 28,2025 confirmed that I do not want someone like that touching my hair. Beware. What makes it worse is that she's the owner. Her name is Esther. I am extremely disappointed, to say the least, and money is the least of my concern. If the job is done well and I am cared for and protected, the price is irrelevant. I'll pay that and more. That was not the case here. When I shared with her how I felt and explained my experience, she did not apologize or show concern. There are two other local Dominican salons in town that offer better service at fair prices: Annely Beauty Salon and Nshalai Beauty Salon, with Nshalai being the top choice. While I got along well with her mother, and at times she did a better job at Blow salon, which is why I continued returning--the ongoing inconsistency, lack of delicacy, and disregard for client safety/pain make this a place I cannot recommend to anyone I know.
