Dr. Shapiro has been my doctor for over twenty years. She also became my mother's doctor and my partner's doctor. So I guess it's pretty apparent that I think the world of her.
I've never written a Yelp review, but after reading the last review I felt compelled to write of my experience because it is a world away from what that person experienced. I don't think the fact that you weren't married or had previous children was a reason for being turned away, but I do know that Dr. Shapiro has been full for years. I, myself, came to see her as a lesbian who had 4 children through donor insemination and she was always fine with it. Over my years with her she has been super attentive to all of my concerns and has seen me through some mental health crises/suicide attempt, caring for my very aged mother, the suicide of my son, and most recently, my transitioning to male. Although she's never had a trans patient before, she has taken over prescribing my hormone therapy and has been instrumental in getting me the letters I've needed for gender affirming surgery.
I am beyond grateful for the years I've had with her and dread the day she retires (which I know is no longer on the distant horizon). I don't really think she needs any 5 star reviews since as I mentioned her practice is full, but I felt I had to offer a counter opinion to the individual that felt they were turned away because of having an "alternative" (?) lifestyle.
I agree with Kathryn A. - she's the BEST!!! read more
