Not only were their photos absolutely gorgeous, but you could tell they were genuine people. My husband and I met them at our engagement session and knew we had made the best decision! Our journey with Caitlin and Luke has been nothing short of amazing. My emails, texts, and phone calls were answered almost immediately. They made sure that Carl and I were super comfortable and had everything that we needed. We communicated with them the entire time leading up to the wedding and this just helped calm any stress or fears I had about the wedding day, especially during a pandemic. On the day of the wedding, they absolutely exceeded our expectations. Luke took portraits of the guys getting ready and at our portrait location. He made them feel at ease, which was amazing! The guys really loved working with Luke. The girls adored Caitlin and how well she works with others. They made our wedding day go so smoothly and helped us with EVERYTHING that we needed. If you are looking for photographers who feel like close friends, make you feel comfortable, and will help you have an amazing wedding experience for you and your significant other, than trust me Caitlin and Luke are the photographers for you!!

We've worked with them beginning with our engagement photos in December when it was freezing cold outside. They drove to the downtown Chicago during the holiday season (which is no easy feat) and helped us achieve the look we wanted for our Save the Dates.  I was so impressed with how organized Caitlin was in the planning process months up until our wedding day. They helped us create a day of timeline, create a shoot list for important portraits and got to know what kind of moments were most important for us to capture.  On our wedding day, Hayley and Hank captured all of our emotions wonderfully. However, most importantly, they were such a calm chill couple. They were so down to earth and did not add to our stress level even though it was drizzling during some of our shoots. They really did an astonishing job and could not be happier with the results. They had a very quick turn around time and the communication with Caitlin was beyond exceptional.

Thanks to sophisticated cameras and the powers of post-processing, good wedding photographers are a…read moredime a dozen these days. But great ones, those whose images are like a Narnian door into an emotionally evocative, magical world of remembrance? Well now, those are a bit more difficult to find. If you are searching for the latter in the Chicagoland area, Ernst Jacobsen is one of the names to know. Having worked with a wide array of photographers when planning events, I am used to seeing the standard catalog of lovely images post-fête. Weddings are, at first glance, not the most challenging of subjects- everyone is happy, all are dressed to the nines and, thanks to the cocktails, entertaining poses abound. What makes a photographer great, in my opinion, is his or her ability to capture the moments of authenticity- the fleeting glances, the subtle graceful gestures, the raw exchanges. A great photographer's images take you by the eye and lead you back into the scene. They make you feel. Such is the photographer I found Ernst Jacobsen to be as I scrolled through the images he took of a wedding I recently attended. The venue was intimate, a steakhouse bathed in moody hues with 120 people meandering about the bar and front room. An unassuming man in person, Ernst's presence was hard to detect. While a few sightings of a man with a camera let me know that there was, in fact, a photog present, I can't seem to recall ever seeing him front and center in the 'big ticket' moments of the day. Thus I was stunned to see the result of his work- the photographs are testament to the fact that he was everywhere all at once, shooting every detail. In one, he is behind me as I toast the newlyweds, their faces beaming from across the room. In the next, he is behind them, capturing my fellow toaster from across the stage. Should I run into Ernst again, I will check his shoes for pointy ends with little bells that signify some sort of magical transport ability. I simply don't know how he did it. If you go to his site, click on "Jennifer and Mike" under "Recent Events" to see what I mean. Scroll down a bit and you will find my favorite- the bride glancing back at her mother holding her infant daughter during the vows, with the baby looking directly at the camera. Powerful, touching and poignant. Realize, as you glance at the series showing the ceremony, how many angles are captured- and that one man did all of that alone. It is extraordinary. While Ernst is based in Normal, IL, he shoots events all over the Chicagoland area- the one I attended was in Evanston. If you have something special coming up and want a set of images that will allow you to slip back into all the little moments of your day, I strongly suggest you give Ernst Jacobsen a call.

He was superb! Friendly, accommodating, trustworthy and so professional. Our request was for him to lean toward the "photojournalistic" side with no true formal portraits. He did exactly that but always had a smile when asked specifically to shoot something or someone. He captured the true soul of our event, not staged sequences. Prior to the event he was always responsive with calls and emails and truly seemed to want enhance our day, not interrupt it. Ernst provided us with a sneak peek of our wedding shots just a few days later. From seeing just that sneak peek we are thoroughly impressed. He captured moments I didn't even know occurred and through his photos have for us captured the true feeling of our special day. Thank you Ernst! I think when we first spoke I told you that the work of yours I had seen is stunning. I can now vouch that the stunning part starts with the photographer from within and is simply projected through the lens. As one of my friends said "we're planning on getting married again just so we can have Ernst capture it".
