I've had Shank for several years. The crew is courteous, and the office is friendly and helpful. I recently had a large item and asked if they could pick it up, the office and I talked about the procedure. and the crew picked it up on my regular trash day. No problems at all! When covid (the flu or anything anyone wants to name it) hit, all the businesses around us were affected. I Honestly can't remember if Shank was a day or 2 late, but they still came. I wish people would be more understanding. They've done a great job considering when the phone rings it's usually someone that's having a bad day. Thank you Shank, we appreciate you! read more

Sanitation pick up is almost always on time. Trash cans usually put down properly with lids attached. We have stung lids to each can using a rope so lids don't get lost or blow away. Thanks guys for the job you do. read more

Terrible recycling program. Only takes cardboard if broken down and flattened. As a Girl Scout leader, I have a ton of empty boxes from Girl Scout cookies this time of year. So I refolded a few boxes without taping them and folded the broken down the boxes and put them into the 5 boxes refolded boxes to bind them. I did this because it was windy last night and would have been all over the neighborhood by this morning. They wouldn't take it. So I went out and put them in a contractor bag and they took it with the trash. This was pathetic of the recycling group. You try to do the right thing by recycling but laziness on their part makes it difficult. Also tossing the recycling bin provided by the township breaking it is very disrespectful. read more

Had shanks refuse service for years and while I was very happy with their service in the beginning, after they merged a few years ago it became completely different. Rates went way up and service plummeted. The trash was skipped multiple times. The Collection drivers dropped garbage out of the truck, every time i had to go clean up the area where they left trash.Ignorant people at the office. Save yourself the headaches and go with any other option. read more

UPDATE 06/27/2022 Today in the mail we received our 06/20/2022 bill from them. Once again, there is an increase in it. I can't blame them for adding a 'fuel surcharge' because of the increases in gasoline and diesel fuels over the past few months. I can say though that they waited until NOW to do it in-as-much as of today the costs for the aforesaid (on the national news) are showing reductions in the per gallon charges. Now that charges are starting to decrease will we see a reduction in the 10% fuel surcharge in a few months or won't we? Will be interesting to watch and see. We're sure of one thing; in the coming weeks we are going to really start cleaning things up and trying to fill up that hopper with it now costing us about $105.00/month Considering they increased the monthly charge on our March 20, 2022 invoice .08998% from $87.01 to $94.84 per month this FUEL SURCHARGE just seems to me being somewhat greedy. Last years (2021} yearly increase went from $81.32/month to $87.01/month or a .06997% increase. They percentage increase is 2% above their 2021 increase and now have added 10% Fuel Charges on top of that. What I've learned over 40 years in our business was when increasing our per hour charge you would look at the total costs for the past year first which would have taken into account at least some of the increases in the price of fuel up until March since they started increasing in January. Then maybe (?) something a little more reasonable with possibly a note indicating the charge would be reviewed every so many months (possibly quarterly). Our business is no different than theirs. Our overhead costs are increasing too; former customers are no longer in business due the past few years. We certainly can't increase our per hour charges to reflect all the increases we have had to absorb. Of course, we went through this in the 1980's. (the same as is happening today) We had just bought the company and had massive debt--we managed to get through it without a large increase in our per hour rate -- at the time we were responsible for 14 employees and their families. I'm sorry if this doesn't agree with their public statement; BUT, this is what I have experienced since their take over. read more

Absolutely the number 1 WORST company I have ever dealt with. Customer service is horrendous, rude and condescending. Overcharge, doesn't pickup for weeks, bills you for weeks not collected, charges you a resume fee if you don't pay for the weeks not collected. I have had problems over the winter getting my trash picked up consistantly. However I am very happy with the past few months of trash pick up in my area. So whatever the change recently, I hope it stays consistant in the months to come. I have never had to call in to complain about the service until recently. Tina was wonderful. I could tell the office was very busy and she took the time to go over my bill and help me. I was a very angry customer when I called in and she helped me calm down and feel better. I do not like change but I guess its ok when someone can address you and understand your frustration. I only gave 4 stars because the late notice letter is absolutely rude and makes you feel like a low life for not paying your bill on time. I am having my roof done by another company. They ordered a dumpster to be delivered. The driver showed up, rude as hell, telling my mom she ordered the dumpster (she nor i did) and if he cant drop it he will charge us $150 Just because your business is in waste management, doesnt mean you get to treat people like garbage. I have been a customer for 4 months and they have missed picking up my garbage 3 times already, calls to them go without results, right now my garbage has been sitting at the street going on two weeks. They painted a green dot on the road in front of my house but when it snows on my country road they don't see the dot and pass me by. I pay for weekly service three months at a time but have not received it yet without a repeated phone calls to them. Well 5 months later and Shank Waste is still a undisciplined company, had to call numerous times to get garbage collected and today is just another example as the trash sits at the street yet again. Here's the bottom line. When you pay for a service, either the service provider conforms to the service-provider contract or they don't. Shanks has not adhered to our service provider contract. My wife, Susan Merante, has tirelessly called this company on a daily basis for the last twelve months to remind them to pick up our trash. Sometimes Shanks picks up our trash late or not at all. This is not acceptable under the terms of contract. Quite often Shanks will make excuses as to why they have not picked up our trash. Enough with the excuses. If you get paid for a service, either conform to the service provider agreement or just phone us up and tell us that you will not help us. ...But if you aren't going to help us then just be real with us and say so. I'm in a position that when my ship sails out to sea, I don't have time to turn around and pick you up from the dock. I live such a busy, meticulous lifestyle and schedule that I don't move backward--I always move forward. Shanks has been a thorn in my side and has taken away my joy. It doesn't have to be like that. You get paid for service. All we ask is that you perform your duties. read more

Ok, we had Vogel and I always paid them on time. Now we have Shank back and I called to make a payment and the girl said to make a check out and I said, I don't pay by check, I pay thru my bank online, she said again if I wanted to pay by check, that she would give me the address and again I told her that I don't pay by check, I'll pay from my bank So then she started to tell me that if I paid Vogel by check to use the new account number. Again I told her, that I pay online. OMG why couldn't she get it thru her head. So I said who do I pay Shank or Vogel? She said that I could send a check to Shank, I yelled at her, and said stop telling me to write a check and she said, "is there a reason you're yelling at me" I said, "how many times do I have to tell you, that I don't pay by check, oh my god, just give me the new account number and I'll change it with my bank, online" some people shouldnt be answering a business phone, if they can't listen to the customer or maybe she was just plain stupid!!! read more
