Wall in cafeteria at Shands Hosptal

Filthiest hospital I have ever been to ! We don't live in Florida but got called that our daughter was there so we flew down to Florida. We both were so shocked at how dirty this hospital is. Especially during this pandemic ! We were there for 10 days and I watched this certain table that had coffee split and dried food on it and took a pic everyday to show the date. Guess what ?? It's still there ! If you go to Shands Hospital look in the lobby at the Children's hospital at the big round wooden table in the lobby or go look at the cafeteria ! Absolute filth. My husband and I both completely shocked !

They were obviously busy behind the double doors because every hour a PCA would come to the waiting room and take vitals. After about 4 hours in the waiting room they called me back and asked me not to be mad but they lost mine and other patients' bloodwork. After a total of 9 hours I was called back and told they only have 1 of 3 CT scans working and had a CT scan performed. After 10 hours I was told I would need to be admitted and have surgery because my CT results were concerning. Waiting for surgeons to come by to talk bit no one, then a few hours later I was told "Oh, sorry, we re-reviewed your CT results and they are not concerning, the Radiologist re-read the CT scan and changed the diagnosis. So we finally got out of there. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the doctor was super. the processes I had to go thru to get seen is why I am rating as a 2. There may be other emergency centers close by, but we are not familiar with the.

I was wheeled on a bed lined up against a wall in a hallway for a good amount of time before they put me in a room with a bunch of other patients. The staff was loudly laughing and joking the whole t8me I was there, no sense of self awareness. Nothing to do but lay down and sleep. I kept asking when the doctor would see me to evaluate me, and they said they thought he already had. They forgot about me. It made me realize that not even people who went to medical school care enough to be professional with their patients. When my mom visited me, the woman by my bedside (who worked there) said she doesn't recommend patients coming to Shands. This place made me wish my attempt had worked. Absolutely awful and heartbreaking experience. Do better. If I could give zero, I would.

My barely 25‑year‑old daughter, Taylor, died after what multiple independent physicians and an…read moreautopsy have confirmed was reckless medical negligence and neglect at an HCA Florida hospital where she was taken after being rear‑ended at a red light. Her internal bleeding went undiagnosed for about eight hours despite glaring signs. Once imaging was finally ordered and active internal bleeding was confirmed, surgery was delayed for roughly seven more hours. In the meantime, the doctor ordered mass blood transfusion in a way that worsened her condition instead of stabilizing her, while failing to move the central line that was improperly placed and that the radiologist recommended be repositioned. HCA Healthcare has faced no consequences, and there is no way for people researching physicians through the Florida Department of Health (DOH), the medical licensing board, to see what happened to my daughter. Because she was 25, unmarried, and had no children, Florida's 'Free Kill' law strategically blocked me from pursuing legal recourse to ensure the hospital and its physicians are held accountable so the harm does not continue. The staff would not follow doctor's orders and change his position every 2 hours. They left a (2 rubber gloves tied together) tourniquet tied on his arm after drawing blood, He woke up with his arm hurting. At least one of the nurses didn't wear gloves at all with putting meds in the his IV and giving him meds from the package to his mouth. They really don't care about the patient.

These facilities don't let you stay overnight or come in before 10am so during those hours a lot can go wrong and it does. Who would think that someone is is critically ill and needs care, would be given a tube feed product he was allergic to ? get a broken nose? lose a molar (during oral care?) have to work hard on the ventilator when he was septic and had a fever? and when wound care came in the first time, they were picking at a mole (thinking it was a staple to be removed) My loved one had tears in their eyes and I am glad I was there to stop them or they might have injured him further. Most nurses were unfriendly and one yelled when I asked basic questions. They have meetings in front of your loved ones saying things that can and do frighten the patient. It is too bad because when someone is put on a ventilator , they need time and good care. This place was shocking and everyday things got worse here.
