This ER is horrendous I cannot believe the lack of management that's been having for years here. I experienced a couple people complaining about pain and discomfort as they waited hours to be seen. My family member came after a car crash and thankfully she's ok but she waited hours for CT scan and then more hours to see a doctor. She came in at 4pm and did not leave til 2am. I had to order Jimmy John's for our dinner at around 9:45pm. As she waited her face continued to swell up and nothing was offered for her pain. There is a constant lying between nurses and front desk of when you will be seen. They do not even know themselves and have no order. I saw the same lady be brought into the lobby then back inside about ten times. While there i noticed so much of the lack of care they have. I don't know how many times we had to tell each nurse who saw us that we were there for 10 total hours and they did not even react. The bathrooms are disgusting. This place is extremely unhygienic. I came on here to see if our experience was an off day for them but crazy to see this dates back 5+ years of absolute no order. I cannot believe that they also yell out your personal information by intercom so the whole room can hear your medical information. This is a HIPA violation as well all know but apparently this place is a joke. There is no empathy or humanity from the nurses . read more

I got in to see a doctor in less than 45 minutes and was pleased to get everything checked out from top to bottom. Not only were they very thorough, but ready to make laugh and all were in good spirits! This attitude makes any ER visit so much nicer to remember and you actually don't mind as much going in the next time you have a medical emergency! I highly recommend using this ER location due to the ample parking, the attention to detail and the great staff. Even the security guards were hilarious! read more

The staff are friendly but all they did was pump me full of opioids and an X Ray instead of checking for any soft tissue damage. All I wanted was an MRI and something to reduce the swelling. They didn't give me ice for my knee or any water after deciding no to surgery. I haven't been able to bend my knee since the injury and I've been in agony. I was screaming in pain trying to get into my ride home after they made me walk out on crutches. They said I might not even need crutches. I say they didn't even look at me to check my range of motion. It's depressing knowing I have to go back again cause the pain level has not subsided overnight. I'm hoping I can go to a different one but I don't know if I can because it's a workers comp issue. Final note: Dan the guy who removed me from the ambulance hit my injured leg 5 times in the span of 2 minutes. Very careless and they did NOT act like they gave a shit. read more

experienced the absolute worst deplorable time in ER both on 5/11/26 then again 5/20/26 for same issue - chest pain/upper abdominal pain 8-9 out of 10 since 5/11/26 and after 49 hrs. combined NO resolution. Took speaking Patient Service Coordinator in ER to FINALLY get my husband moved from lying in the hallway to the ER Transfer area so he could await room assignment WHENEVER a bed in North Tower opened up. for the 46 hrs he spent 10 hrs in ER Lobby with no care and 36 hrs. on a stretcher in the hallway with NO privacy, no call light, no answers nothing by bed Was sent home after 36 hrs the first time without ANY resolution to return after spending all but 2 days at home in agonizing pain for at least 16-18 hrs a day but fearful to return to ER.This 2nd time it was determined his Gallbladder is ready to burst and his liver is inflamed....Lucky still alive. Now surgery has to wait until Cardiology sees him in morning to determine if he can safely have surgery due to his Significant Coronary Artery Disease with failed BYpass. Golden Years heck no ...instead of dying from old age, we are destined to die due to poor medical system. Doctors are awesome but they are at the mercy of the MEDICAL SYSTEM that is BROKEN. God help us all cause I predict it will continue to worsen. 100 patients in actual ER, 14 in ER Transfer Area and approx. 35 more waiting in excess of 8-10 hrs in lobby BROKEN SYSTEM. I can't give this place fewer than one star. Took my 80+ year old father in for possible blood clot and waited 8 hours to be seen. The PCA Jen is an awful person and would not allow me to use one of the 10 fold up chairs leaning against a wall to prop my dad's leg up on. She should work in a prison, not in healthcare. The security guard let me borrow a milk crate to use to prop his leg up - since we were worried about blood clots. Eight hours later, we could see the results on mychart and waited another couple hours to be discharged. I finally took my dad home without being discharged because he was not in danger of a blood clot - but was exhausted and in severe back pain from sitting in the waiting room for so long. It verged on elder abuse. My dad was bedridden for 36 hours after I got him home. read more

AVOID THIS ER AT ALL COSTS! I arrived in excruciating pain, unable to walk without the help of my fiancé. Rather than being offered a wheel chair, I was forced to hobble down a hallway alone WITHOUT ANY ASSISTANCE FROM A NURSE. The PA gave me one Percocet (which wore off entirely after 2 hours) where I was prompted to sit in the waiting room for SIX HOURS. Writhing in pain, no one checked on me. Any attempt to alert staff to my condition was met with indifference. Almost every worker I saw was glued to their cell phone and seemed bothered by patients attempting to interact with them. 4 hours in a chair that was excruciating to sit in was too much; I could not wait any longer. I sobbed as I limped to the front desk to check myself out, shaking and sputtering. All the receptionist had to tell me was "good luck". Do not trust these people with your life. Place is insane. People covered in blankets. Five security guys took an out of control and belligerent paient off a gurney and into a wheelchair a few feet from us in the waiting room. No HIPA here. My husband came by ambulance we sat in the WR for 8 1/2 hrs. before leaving. Never saw a doctor. Would hope to never return here again. Never in my 63 years have I experienced anything like this. I wish I could rate -stars, I was hit by car while riding a bike, ambulance brought me to shands, I spent hrs there before being seen, took X-rays, cat scan to be told nothing was wrong, turns out after going to another Dr. I have a fractured left wrist, fractured elbow with muscle tearing, I had a gash in my right knee that needed stitches but it wasn't till I had already been discharged and on way out the door that I was told oh we're going to clean it up, just wiped it clean wrapped it up, it needed stitches, they didn't do it, they placed cleaning supplies on bed, including scissors and a scalpal and told me to take the rest home with me then left, I'd rather die in the gutter before recommending shands, then have the audacity to charge me $16,000, for what??? read more

I have never in my life dealt with an emergency room like that! I waited freezing and so uncomfortable for 10 hours before seeing a doctor and when i did i couldn't even finish talking to him when he sent me to another room to get blood work done and saw someone else going right into the room. I was only in talking to the doctor for less than 5 minutes! Then i was told to go back to the waiting room and sat for another hour and i went outside for 5 minutes and came back in and waited another 30 minutes and finally i went to the front desk to ask when they were going to do anything and she said that they was calling my name for an hour and a half so they took me out of the computer!! That was not true at all! I was there for 12 solid hours for absolutely nothing!! I totally recommend that anyone who wants to go there to not waste your time!!! Visited U.F. Springhill Emergency Department several months ago for a rare life-threatening respiratory issue. Incompetent, uncaring and clinically inappropriate, from intake to discharge. Instead of addressing the actual reason for my visit, I was assumed to have had a heart attack, transported to UF Health Shands ER, which continued the assessment & treatment for a heart attack! I was admitted to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, based on a misdiagnosis and released a few hours later. UF Health simply does not have sufficiently trained or proactive staff to provide quality emergency care. As a health care professional, I would not refer to UF Health and as a patient, I would not seek future care from UF Health. By the way, UF Health is protected by "sovereign immunity" from legal liability. The so-called Patient Representative Office represents and is protective of UF Health - not you. I would give "zero" stars if I could. I entered the ER with potential dehydration after a week with intense GI issues. After nine hours waiting in a packed waiting room (Never got a bed). I did not see one single doctor. Had a consultation via telehealth (Zoom) with a "provider" who was a RN. The nurses were clearly doing what they could in a very poor physical structure. The place was cluttered and not clean as you would expect a hospital at UF would be. I am completely and utterly shocked that UF Shands ER is so slow. I figured with Shands' reputation that this would be the best place to go but clearly I was wrong. I came with my friend who was suffering from a concussion and we waited SEVEN HOURS in the waiting room just to be taken back. When we got back to the actual ER room it was ANOTHER THREE HOURS of waiting for a CT scan and getting those results back. All the staff was friendly but honestly, niceness can't do much when you've been waiting for eternity for things to get done. We were just so drained from everything by the time we got sent home. We literally got here at 4pm and stayed until a bit past 2am. It's just a complete mess back here with no one focused on getting anyone out promptly. read more

If I could give NEGATIVE stars I would. I cried during my stay here, I'm lost for words, it feels like the only place where a person is supposed to feel taken care of and safe FAILED miserably to do its job. I had been feeling bad, but didn't want to go to a hospital due to the long wait and such, but eventually i started to feel so bad that i had to go. I decided to go to this emergency due to the reputation of shands hospital (my worst mistake). I came in with a fever of 106 degrees, my whole body was aching, I was pale, and I felt like I could pass out any second. They did a handful of tests (around a 30 min wait in between each), but once the tests were done, I had to wait for the doctor to come by. 2 hours in, my name is called, but it was for vitals. Another hour passes, and my name is called for vitals again (mind you, I had a fever and no one did anything to bring it down, I could have had any sort of thing happen to me because of it). After another hour, I finally get to see the doctor, only to be asked "what do you think is going on?" Em sir, isnt that your job? The doctor tells me he will put a request for my lab results, and that meanwhile he will put some IV fluids. The test results were nowhere to be seen. They wanted to draw blood and swab my throat AGAIN. Like WHAT?! I havent eaten in 6 hours and you want to do what? Tests you already did? And I bring this up and the nurses were like "OH they already did?" LIKE OMG WHAT? ARE YOU FOREAL. By then, i'm already crying because it has been six hours of no one making me feel any better, i'm starving, and everyone seems absolutely CLUELESS. I decided to leave. And one of the nurses goes "WE ARE BUSY". Like yes, but this is an EMERGENCY ROOM, if you have people with emergencies waiting 9+ hours you are doing something wrong, and if you have such a bad attitude about it, you have no regards for others' health and are purely doing your job for money. Additionally, being completely lost and not knowing that I already got my labs done, or who my initial nurse was, is not about being busy, is about having a shitty system. I had to leave after wasting 7 hours of my life, without a diagnosis or prescription. Something a good doctor can diagnose with just a physical exam. SAD, and HEARTBREAKING. I have never had such an awful experience in a hospital. I left crying and the vision I had of what healthcare and a hospital should look like, is completely shattered. read more

Worst ER experience in my life. When I arrived I could sense it was a no go but against my better judgement I proceeded. First I was suffering and I have to go through a security check point and empty my bag out. Next I get to check in and the 5 people behind desk are having a BS session and cannot even greet me though it is obvious I'm suffer. Then when I speak to person it is a cold uncaring lady. Next, I get into the back area and the person putting in the needle is so incompetent its alarming. Of course she couldn't get blood despite my well difined veins. Looking around at the staff I realized these people wher hire because of DEI and not qualification. At that point I told the lady to remove my no working blood step up and walked out. In hindsight I should've checked the reviews before going, but I had suffered a pretty bad hand laceration. I waited 6 hours and when I got in a nurse (I don't remember her name but she was blonde and on the pudgy side) she took my bandages from my hand and was frustrated that the bandages were stuck to my wound, so she started being forceful and would have pulled a large piece of my skin if I wouldn't have asked her to give it a try myself. I was able to delicately separate my own wound from the bandage. Had to do it myself; terrible nurse. Do not recommend to anyone, look for another ER. read more

I live in Ocala, I took my husband with burns to his chest to Advent E R and got basic attention and xray. I was told he had a spot on his lung and to see his regular physician.. I took my husband home. Overnight his burns looked worst. I brought him to Shands, they quickly came out to take him out of the car. A team of Dr's including Dr Agaba the critical burn Dr. examined him. The xray showed a blood clot, they quickly admitted him. His care is outstanding so far as he is scheduled for surgery on his burn soon. read more

Shands used to care about human life since covid even a short time before the directors obliterated staff morale and ability to care. How could anyone afraid their life could be in the balance allow themselves to remain in a situation where time and attention to detail are treated as unlimited and unnecessary when we are speaking of human individual life, the utter disregard disrespect given. How can a hospital evaluate how critical each case is when it takes more than 24hrs to see several people let alone decide what is more life threatening without any test. If you have to have extreme apparent issues with appearance and vitals to be a priority look elsewhere im telling You, you are valuable,YOU worth more!!! I hope nobody ends up here with an unseen,unapparent issue that cost you vital function because of less than poor ethics and treatment of humanity. Meningitis and other killers exist, sometimes they are silent and disguised you won't know until it's cost you some form of function here and common people notice as well, before you get treated with emergence at Shands Hospital. The greatest things available in this world can be reduced to the least with poor leadership,understanding,and the right motives. I pray A VERY NECESSARY restructuring,review, and placing of the right hearts and minds come on their own before something tragic involving someone reading this does. This is an awful "emergency" care experience and I highly suggest you avoid it because I didn't learn from my first time and I want you to not make the same mistake. The first time we were here we were admitted at 10pm and were sitting in a waiting room for hours. They took vitals and that was it until 5am when we were finally seen by a doctor and it took literally throwing up by the nurse's desk for them to pay us any attention. People tend to just leave and suffer because the wait is so long that this should by no means be considered for emergency care in any capacity. Today we came because of intense abdominal pain which may have been appendicitis. A care center told us it could be an appendix close to rupture and this hospital did not heed a word. We were admitted at 1pm and it's currently 9pm. Vitals were again taken and this time blood drawn and urine tested but that was at 5 and we still haven't received any sort of results. Overall this is a frustrating experience and it would've been easier to drive two hours to Orlando and i guarantee we would've been seen sooner. They don't even deserve a 1 star but that's the lowest I can put, please please avoid them and find another hospital if you want to actually be seen in decent time. As a UF student I am disappointed in the Shand's Emergency unit and will just drive two hours next time read more

my daughter arrived at Shands ER yesterday on the advice of another hospital. She literally sat there for four hours in excruciating pain as well as the other six or seven people who had been there since nine that morning. No one was triaging no one was helping anyone for hours. My daughter asked the person working behind the desk, who was pretty much ignoring everybody !"I need something for pain so she took her back to some triage room where she sat for about 15 minutes. There was no one no one down the hallway no one came nothing... Apparently Shands ER staff are already taking the week off for Thanksgiving at least six of the people walked out and said "to hell with this!" Four hours my daughter sat there in pain and no one paid attention to anyone in that waiting room. No one got treated she left as did the other five people who've been there since about 9 o'clock yesterday morning. And before you make an excuse for them know, there were not ambulances arriving left, and right they were not helicopters landing on the roof. People were not doing their job. read more

Neglect and malpractice of the highest order. Went in at 1:30 pm Monday December 28th, 2021 with a wife who could not swallow her meds because of throat and whole body convulsions. Wasn't seen by a doctor until 2:00 AM. That's seven and a half hours in a drafty waiting room packed with sick and injured people. Tuesday night 36 hours later she still had received only one pill of 8. Though she suffers kidney disease at no time was she given any water or even a saline IV. I expect my wife to be dead by tomorrow. I met no nurses or doctors that would take responsibility and actually do something. Every one used the excuse that their boss needed to make the decision. Even the supervisors had mysterious bosses that couldn't make the decision to give now a dying woman a drink of water. read more

Just terrible, 102 patients in ER I was told, I asked. Person behind the plexiglass couldn't give any wait times, couldn't assist with any other information either. CEO of UFHealth Shands Ed Jimenez should do better with the facilities he manages serving the hurting patients in the community. All those new buildings and UFCOM right there on campus and not enough doctors staffed this night. ???? Unbelievable and unacceptable. Do better!
