Cuyahoga County Public Library - Beachwood Branch

The Cuyahoga County Public Library system is pretty fabulous, and in total, it boasts one of the…read morelargest book collections in the United States. This fact has helped local supporters note that the NE Ohio/Greater Cleveland area has one of the largest and most comprehensive public library systems in the nation. (Now if only the County could get every denizen to really educate himself -- and create some sort of brain bubble in the region. Just a wish.) This is a review of the Beachwood city branch, a small yet nicely remodeled facility. There are great nonfiction and children's sections; however, the fiction selection is a bit lacking. The Saul Eisen Reading Garden offers a tranquil, secluded reading space. For research projects, one might be better served at the Mayfield and South Euclid city branches (the latter is set in an exquisite old local castle-esque building). All of the branches -- east and west -- afford the opportunity to find a quiet place to get lost in a great piece of literature and/or media. Grade: A

Starbucks gets too rowdy after about 8:30 AM, and as a transplant I was at a loss as to where I should go to study. A friend suggested this branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. I can't vouch for the selection of books or the services they offer, but as a quiet study environment, this place is great! There are plenty of plugs for your computer (yay!) at each work station, so you don't have to bring an extension cord or awkwardly drape anything over your neighbor just for a hookup. My only beef was that the quiet cubbies were along the perimeter of the main room, which meant that it did get a little louder as the day went on. In any case, it beats the 'bucks, and helped me get my morning off to a productive start!

God, I love libraries. You know how some women walk into shoe stores and can't control themselves…read morewith shoes? I'm that way with books. This summer, there's been soooo many titles I've wanted to read. I find myself walking out of this branch with 4-6 books at every visit. I frequent various Cuyahoga County Public Library branches often. When it comes to Solon, I particularly love how quick their request-a-book is. In case you didn't know, you can log directly onto their website and put a hold on a book. If they don't have it, you can still request it from a different branch and have it sent to Solon. Boom, they'll email you when its ready, and you can pop in and pick it up from a shelf, where it will wait with your name on it. Between retrieval and self-check out, you only have to spend 2 minutes weaving through all the children (thank god). Towards the front of the library, they have a well-stocked selection of fiction titles ranging from drama, to biography, to chick lit, to mystery. They're also great about adding little stickers that say "New in June" and labeling the release of recent popular titles. I'm a frequent GoodReads user and Amazon browser, and 8 times out of 10, I can usually find what I'm looking for on these shelves. When was the last time you read something great? Go to the CCPL, browse the titles, or request-a-book online! Patronize your local libraries, Yelpisphere!

Love the play away books and they have a terrific selection that just gets better every time we visit. This library is always busy but still quiet. The other patrons are respectful and the staff is friendly. Love it here and always look forward to visiting. Only two issues, they are not open friday nights (so you can't pick up some last minute movies to watch that night) and people in this parking lot are terrible, terribly drivers (just park way out on the fringes and you'll be fine).

Not a fan of their hours but so happy to have finally made it here! This place definitely qualifies…read moreas a hidden gem or a less-traveled CLE shop. I could easily spend hours here, and did, last Sunday! What gorgeous decor, layout, vibes and selection they have! Workers were really friendly as well. The prices of books were high though--no discount at all for new books. Fine to support local but this is why the library will still always be my favorite. What I was confused about is how the books are organized because it is not by author nor by used/new. I'm pretty sure new books were placed right next to pre-owned ones on the same shelf... I did enjoy all the gift and merchandise displays. They were all set up in a way that looked irresistible to buy! My BF bought this photography coffee table book he was really excited about and I got a children's novel illustrated by Jon Klassen (big fans!).

The people working there were very knowledgeable and friendly. The book collection alone is incredible. There is multiple room rooms and the sanctuary holds very old and important books and is definitely interesting to look around in. They also have a cute gift shop that has very cool gifts and handmade items as well. Totally a great find if you are looking for something fun to do, or just looking for a few books.
