As with most of the hypoallergenic breeds like ours, they require constant brushing to avoid matting. We stumbled across Adorable Doos because they've had experience grooming our breed in the past. Therefore, we've been very impressed with our experience the past few times. Our dog's always come back nice and clean - what more can you ask for. Takes about 3 hours for a full groom, bath, etc. Can't go wrong with that. The women there are super nice. If anything, I wish they were open longer on the weekdays, but why make minor complaints? It's very convenient for us - just remember to immediately turn right after you get onto Ridge Road otherwise you'll miss the sign!

I can confidently say that Barkly is unlike any other groomer I've been to, and in the best way possible. Barkly prides themselves in transparency, spanning from transparency in price & even transparency in your pet's experience. Upon entering the storefront I was shocked to find glass walls, allowing me to see the pets being groomed and being able to see the holding area they put pets in. Unlike most groomers who hold your dog in a cage for their entire visit, Barkly is the only groomer I've seen have a whole dedicated play room for the pups to interact with the other dogs and actually enjoy their time at the grooming salon. If your dog isn't social or is anxious that's alright too, because they made sure to ask me if it was okay for my dog to take part in that playtime before actually placing her there. I loved my interactions with the staff and also found those completely different from groomers I've had in the past. I was asked if my dog had any allergies, if I had any concerns with grooming, if there were any skin conditions/problems I wanted to tackle specifically - all questions that make sense, but I was never asked by any groomer before until my visit at Barkly. Their main concern is your pet's comfort, and for that I love them for. The groom itself was great - my dog walked out of Barkly smelling fresh for weeks and looking great. Being that my dog has a double coat, many groomers tend to leave my dog's fur damp and don't even attempt to deshed her properly. The dryness of my dog's fur is the first thing I check after a grooming and to my surprise, she was fully dry after visiting Barkly - another win in my book. They also did an amazing job at brushing out her undercoat to minimize her shedding. I had the privilege of speaking directly with the owner, who walked me through every step of the process and made me feel confident in their services. It's not often that a grooming intake slows things down for you and takes their time listening to your concerns, and for that I truly appreciate Barkly. I can't wait to bring my pup back and see what other services they have to offer. If you're in search of a new groomer, you should definitely give Barkly a shot!

Unfortunately, our first visit turned into a complete nightmare. From the start, I clearly discussed the exact length and style I wanted for my maltipoo and even provided a few reference photos of her previous haircuts. We went over every detail together. Despite that, the groomer completely ignored my instructions. My poor girl came back looking nearly bald--her coat was shaved so short, you could see the skin, unevenly done, and nothing like the soft, rounded trim we agreed on. She has never looked so bare or vulnerable. The lack of care didn't stop there. Her ears were left visibly dirty and were not cleaned at all, which is a basic part of any proper grooming session. I specified to the groomer that she had some dry skin in one of her ears, and when we returned home, that dry skin was still there. Her eyes were also neglected--there was noticeable tear staining that hadn't been taken care of, making her look unkempt and uncomfortable. It was clear that little to no attention was paid to her face or hygiene. The entire grooming process took over two hours and the dog was not fully groomed. What upset me even more was her emotional and physical state afterward. For the rest of the evening, the dog was trembling, anxious, and shaking. She hid under the furniture and refused to come out--something she has never done after any previous grooming appointment. This level of stress is unacceptable and suggests she may have been left in distress during the process. When I saw the final result, I was so shocked and concerned for my dog's well-being. While the salon itself looks beautiful on the outside, the quality of work and basic pet care inside are severely lacking. I would strongly caution any pet owner--especially those with small or sensitive breeds--against bringing their furry family members here.

Upon drop off, they greet your dog, make sure she's happy. There's an option for walks in the mountains, which our dog loves. I think it's $25/day, $7/per walk in the woods. Our dog comes back smelling no worse for wear, which is shocking, as we have a crazy, anxious dog who drools if we ever try crating her at home, and subsequently smells and needs a bath (hence, we don't do it often)--here, she doesn't actually smell. At all. Note that your cell phone will not work up on Sourland Mountain, and your GPS will be slightly off--it's kind of at the top of the hill on the left side.

I hesitate writing this review because the owners, Monica and Arjun, are EXTREMELY nice and run a well kept and absolutely adorable shop filled with amazing treats, toys, and food options/toppers for dogs. The Modern Canine is conveniently located in a strip mall on 206 with plenty of parking, and they give free puppacinos to dogs who visit. Unfortunately, my review is as low as it is because I had a TERRIBLE experience with their groomer Lisa. Despite the multiple recommendations I received in a local neighborhood Facebook page for a reputable groomer, Lisa did the worst grooming job I've ever seen (I had a cockapoo for 16 years prior to the puppy I have now). Worst of all, I trusted this groomer enough to do my dog's haircut 2 weeks before our wedding. I paid $80 for a full body haircut, bath, brush/blowout, ear cleaning, and nail trim. My fiance was the one taking our dog to/from the groomer, so I reached out on Instagram a week before the appointment with "inspiration/inspo pictures" for the haircut so they'd know exactly how to groom him and my fiance wouldn't have to worry about explaining it to them since he would be rushing during his lunch break to take our dog to this appointment. They said they'd add the pictures to his file but when the day of his appointment came around, they called me while I was working to ask if I had pictures even though I already sent them and they said they'd add the pictures to his file a week beforehand. When my fiance picked him up, the hair on his face was much rounder than my inspo pictures. I asked the groomer to round it out a little more to match the picture and the outcome was a sloppy, choppy MESS. I requested a partial refund for the face trim and part of the tip to reflect the cheaper overall cost, which the owners graciously gave me. When I was home the next day, I noticed that even the body was cut sloppily. Lisa left long patches on his butt and paws and it looked like she just cut his hair with straight scissors instead of blending it out and making it more of a clean cut. I feel like I could have bought a dog grooming kit on Amazon and done a better job. I reached back out requesting a full refund of the tip which they willingly refunded. The owners handled the situation very professionally, and they were apologetic which I appreciate. That's why I still recommend The Modern Canine for the store itself and will continue to support it by buying toys and treats, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND HAVING YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE. Keep your dogs far far away from Lisa. I've since found an amazing and extremely talented groomer to fix the mess Lisa made. This other groomer also agreed that his face trim came out extremely choppy and sloppy. She referred to my dog as "it" and pulled her so hard I thought she would choke her. I watched patiently as another customer was given the wrong dog at checkout and the chaos that ensued due to the owner's inability to stay organized and focused. The price for a basic bath and nail trim were outrageous, and the anal gland care that I asked for wasn't done due to a lack of communication from the owner to the groomers. When I asked for it to be done I was charged an extra fee despite their mistake. Truly...just not the most comfortable experience.
