I asked for a simple trim on the back of my hair and a frame face in the front. I got the frame face in the front but LAYERS in the back. I am very upset and disappointed at Julie. I kept asking if she was layering my hair since I had never had anyone trim my hair by holding it up in the air but she kept assuring me that it was not. The layers are 4 inches short from the longest piece. I never had layers, never wanted them and I don't understand why it so hard to give the customer what they want. I went here to see Katie for my first appointment. I hired her for a trim and bangs. When I called, the person on the phone told me Katie would most likely charge me $40 because of my hair type. Katie charged me $57. While that phone call was not Katie's fault, it was not a good experience. I don't think I would have minded the tab if I got the simple haircut I asked for. I didn't have my hair trimmed for almost a year before I went to her + asked her to get rid of the dead hair. That's all I wanted. When I got home, I started brushing through my hair, and the ends were STILL sticking because my hair was still damaged at the ends. I asked her to also clean up the layers. My hair is all one length...? I tried to call the salon days later and leave a message to see if I could come back in. No one ever returned my call. This was so disappointing. read more

I've been going to shag salon and Keith ever since covid started. I left my previous hairstylist bc I didn't agree with their policy but I like the precautions shag salon takes during covid. None the less I was glad I tried shag salon because I got to work with Keith, the owner who was great. Loved how my hair would turn out. I got highlights and haircuts with him. 2 stars review after today service and I won't be returning. Keith was out of town so I was assisted by another hair stylist. But the terrible service came from the manager who checked me out. The price was higher than my usual amount I was charged. I question the charged and the manager just kept saying that's what you were charged the first time. I said yes but first time was highlights all over. Every time after has being root touch up. We went back and fourth and she eventually just charged my card without my consent. When I told her that I had not agreed to being charged that amount she said " well you need to pay for your Sevice and I'm the manger so ". That was it. That was her statement to me. I didn't say I wasn't going to pay for my service, I was trying to understand the charge. She didn't care to take the time to help me understand it. At this point I just left and won't return which is unfortunate because it's hard to find a great stylist who can do your hair the way you like it. I planned to just email owner about today service. But when when I asked for owner email she gave me a generic email for salon. And I said I'm sure you have access to this email , does Keith have a direct email. She said no I don't have access ,That goes just to Keith. Yeah right lady. Your the manger and you don't get emails from "info@shagsalon.com. Hair stylist was nice. But left my ear with quite a bit of hair color. She rushed at the end. For $170 that should not happen. read more

I was a loyal customer for years and recommended the place to everyone. Then one day the owner gave me one of the worst haircuts of my life. Okay, mistakes happen and hair grows out but when I suggested (while still at the salon) that he try to correct it, he sent me home and told me to "see how it works after a few days". I immediately called to tell him how disappointed I was but no apology or refund was offered. I've since spoken with others who have reported the same experience. I have been going to Shag since 2005, and I too have recommended the salon to a lot of friends. The atmosphere is great and I always get offered a refreshment. I've always had decent haircuts, though occasionally I still leave with split ends, and I have always had a nice new hair color when I leave too. Some of my friends like the salon and others thought it was ok. Shag is relatively inexpensive in comparison with other local salons, so I would say in this case the old saying is true-you get what you pay for. read more

Linda and Amanda worked wonders on my hair and went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied before I left. We did a major color correction which took 6+ hours. I'm so extremely happy with the level of care and attention I received. My only suggestion to the owners is to invest in OLAPLEX. It has been a lifesaver throughout the many times I've lifted and colored my hair. And PLEASE Invest in wet brushes. I have very fine stringy hair and it is a pain to brush through without a wet brush. read more

Got my hair straightened by David with Yuko last year, and the results were more fabulous than i expected! I naturally have wavy frizzy hair, and it is now perfectly straight, smooth and frizz free! Best of all, my routine at home is simply wash and air dry, with an occasional round brush and blowdry of my bangs if i'm feeling motivated. You have to have very healthy strong unaltered hair to be a candidate for it, and you Must follow directions right after it's done: no water in the hair for 3 days right after and no dyes until at least one week has passed. David will evaluate your hair and explain it if you go in for a consultation. He is a true professional and very detail oriented. Yuko may seem expensive, but it is permanent and takes HOURS to apply in a very specific method. Once it's done, your hair will be beautiful with little to no effort, not even needing special shampoos. I use Bed Head. I went from a drawerful of hair products to just two Yuko sprays, and I probably didn't Really need the finishing spray, but I loved the extra shine. The ONLY downside is that once your roots start to grow out you're not going to want to go back to your old frizzy hair! A few months before a full year I went back to get the roots done. Touchups are just as expensive as when you first get it done, (they take just as long) but it's addictive to have maintenance free beautiful hair. My hair seemed a little more fragile after the touchup, but still got a great result. I highly recommend this salon and David in particular! read more

I went yesterday for a haircut, and was assigned to a young lady who unfortunately wasn't feeling very well (which happens, not upset about this). But she left halfway through the haircut, and another stylist took over (the owner?). He was very nice about it, but I'm not sure how well they communicated about where she was at in the cutting process. He started cutting, but I had to sort of remind him of what i had been going for after he started. I thought things looked just ok when i left, and I'm generally quite un-picky about haircuts. But by the time the evening wore on, it was clear the style didn't look good at all. I washed my hair this morning and styled it myself, and it's pretty obvious that the two sides of my head were cut very differently with totally unmatching layers. The owner was very kind about things and asked me to come back if i wasn't happy, but I confess that I don't have a lot of faith in returning. I know many other people have come here and had a great experience, and I'm sure that many great haircuts are done here. But this was my experience, and I'll be going someplace else to get the cut fixed. read more

I have always been apprehensive about going to get my hair cut by hairstylists, as I had been jaded by a bad experience I once had at a salon. My brother suggested that I try The Shag and since I really liked the hairstyle he was given there I said, "What the heck." I'm not going to lie to you when I first went there I was a bit nervous, it seemed very high-end and my insecurities got the best of me. However, when I went inside it was so ultra-laid back and everybody there treated me like they had known me all their life. I got my hair cut by Kayla who is super-talented, friendly and knowledgeable. Even when she used her salon-speak, and since I am not versed in the lingo, she broke it down to the most simplest terms.
