Is this a dog park, or a disc golf course? Some residents who were camped out on a front 9 today…read moreplaying with their dog on the fairway, blocked the hole and refused to move so we could play through. This is a taxpayer funded course right (??), so I'm not entirely sure how that grants the rights to adjacent neighbors to camp out and use it as a dog park and then report people who get angry about their game being blocked in return, because they can't finish their game. And I just want to clarify, that if we want to go throw on a course, and there are people blocking us from playing the course because it's a dog park at that particular time of day that they have deemed works best for them, then we need to just ignore their entitlement and go to the next hole?? Would you do that to someone on a regular golf course?? I think NOT. Guessing the police deal with this entitlement on the regular based on what they said after they were called. 3 stars are because the course is amazing, but the entitled neighbors and their stupid dog can get bent.

I've never played disc golf before, nor have I ever had an interest. However, when my friend Kelly…read moreW. asked if I wanted to try this place in Roselle, I gave it a shot. Why not? So on one of the rare, hot days this summer, we found ourselves trying to navigate this course. The best way to get here is to park in or near the Waterbury Elementary School parking lot and walk on over. Originally, my directions led me to some residential parking lot on the other side of the park, but I wasn't able to park there or I'd be towed. Go to the school instead. You have been warned. Goose Lake Park has a nine-hole disc golf course that takes about two hours to complete. There's no maps, so you need to find them ahead of time or just wander around and figure it out yourselves. Boxes of sand mark the starting spots to throw from and the baskets are clearly marked with yellow paint. We managed to find eight of the nine holes and only completed six or seven of them. We were exhausted from the walking and tossing! The only annoying things about the course were the clusters of tall grass! My frisbee kept ending up in the grass and it took us time to find them if we weren't paying attention to where they landed. I was wearing shorts and flip flops; it's not fun walking through tall grass with those on. Once I got the hang of tossing the frisbees, they didn't go in the grass anymore. Whew. I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would, though! Since I haven't played disc golf before, I can't really compare this to other locations. Yet, the lack of maps, the slightly confusing course design, and the annoying tall grass puts this at a three-star rating for me. It's OK. I'd come back, but I'm not in love. In addition to the disc golf course and walking path, there's a baseball field and playground for the kiddies. It's a quiet spot -- we only came across a couple other people walking dogs while we were there.

They clearly marked where to throw from using boxes full of sand with signs telling you how far it is and what is par. The park is well maintained with tall grasses in clusters. It is hard to figure out where to park, but you park near the Waterbury Elementary School and the first hole is right by the parking lot. It also has a gorgeous baseball field and a biking track through the park. Furthers mere, you can have kids play on the playground there. It was a great course that was well maintained, easy to find the holes and where to throw from, and short for new beginningers.

Loved this well maintained disc course for its variety of terrain (hills, bushes, grass, creeks,…read morepond, etc.) as it provides a beautiful land to play on. On the flip side, this course is one of the most challenging I've played on and definitely caters to those with a much higher skill level (otherwise you'll be spending a good amount of time looking for your discs, or losing them). You'll need good arm strength as some of these holes are over 650 feet away (not the longest -- for example, 905 feet on hole 18 at Squaw Creek, 810 feet on hole 17 at Fairfield White, 930 feet on hole 13 at Anna Page Park South,), which is a bit longer than most holes you'll find in other courses in the NW suburbs. The people here are very friendly. During my visit, I received some coaching on my throw, there was a another group who took time out of their day to help me find a lost disk, and people were overall very social. If you get tired of disc golfing, there's also great walking walking trails that run along-side the course so you can still get a wonderful view of nature while being mostly safe from being hit by discs. Overall, excellent forest preserve and course and I'd love to visit here again soon!

Experts probably like this course, but for amateurs there are just too many high risk areas. We skipped some holes, played super conservative on others, and birddogged each others shots on others. The pro side of it is that this also means it has great variety - hills, trees, water hazards, narrow or curvy shots. It's just hard for casual players to have fun. Watch out for mud.

This is not one of my favorite disc golf courses in the area. By the time you get through the 3rd…read morehole you're wondering where the 4th tee is. The course isn't poorly laid out but there were a few times when I had to wander around to find the next tee. The wind can be tough on this course and from the two times I've played here, I've seen a total of two other fri-golfers. The one thing that irritated me the most about this course was the grass. Massive lines of mowed grass piles gets old after a few holes. You're constantly kicking it around while walking the course. If you do fri-golf here I HIGHLY recommend the following: * Bring your smart phone and take a picture of the course map that's located at the front of the park. Some of the tee's are difficult to locate and many of the fairway maps on the tee posts are badly warped or missing. * WEAR PANTS! From hole 5 through 18 you're throwing into fairways surrounded by fields of reeds, bushes, trees and/or other plants. ie..the type of ground cover that ticks frequent. Holes 13-16 are the worst. This course also has a good deal of bushes that swallow disk's whole. Even an expert fri-golfer will have to give chase into these areas. Pants keep the ticks and stickers off your legs. *Bug spray is a good idea in warm weather. The skeeters and gnats are a pain in the ass back here! Some of the holes & fairways at this park are actually pretty cool, it's the fringe issues that detract you from fully enjoying the course. Hole 6 is my favorite, a massive downhill shot where the wind and height can lend to a really impressive throw. If you know the course and understand the variables it can be more enjoyable, but there are far better courses in the area.

The area is super vast with a pretty landscape. The bugs are atrocious though and not all of the…read moredisc golf posts are identified, making it really confusing to know where to go. We had to leave because of the bug issue after the 5th hole, and because we couldn't find number 6 anywhere. I get the bugs can't really be controlled, but the identification of the holes really needs work to help the disc golf players out.
