It is a wood chip ground with soft rubber landing spots at the bottom of each slide. There are several lengths and types of slides a each park and there are a full set of swings with ones for little kids up to bigger ones. There is a small gazebo in between them and a larger grassy park nearby to play in as well. There is also a tennis and bocce ball court right next to the parks as well with bathrooms and a water fountain. Again an all around great local community park.

I've taken my youngest here one day on a walk too. This is a neat park situated across from Deerpath subdivision and/or part of it. The park itself has two play areas, one for big kids, one for small kids, and a sandpit in the middle. Both of my kids loved playing in this park on a steamy August late afternoon. The park equipment is well maintained and fun to play with. It's on our list of parks that we can walk to and enjoy around Vernon Hills. If you're in the area, this is a solid, clean, bright park to visit with great equipment for the kids and plenty of shade near walking paths.

It's a straight path, that takes you to route 45. This park makes the walk at deerpath park longer, allowing you to enjoy a much more rigorous exercise. To the left are multiple people's houses' backyard. However, they are all fenced in and multiple shrubs are in place to protect your and the homeowner's privacy.

Don't let the website link fool you into thinking this park is still under construction, because I'm pretty sure it's complete... and it's fabulous! We used to come here when the kids were smaller. The play structures were pretty scrappy. I remember the sand was dirty and loaded with hornet looking flying thingies, it used to be super buggy, but the plus side was always the spinning climbing toys. There are still have cool kid spinning structures, but they got a facelift, and we're so excited because we can officially still call this park *the spinning park*. Pluses: - Brand spanking new climbing structures - Different areas for different ages - A running track around the park - A ginormous field for outdoor field sports - It's usually pretty quiet and unpretentious here - It's a nice neighborhood park at the end of a street Minuses: - Not a lot of covered picnic areas, unless I just didn't see them - Nothing else I can think of - Street parking only near the play area What a lovely place to bring the kiddos.

This is a really nice park, that's at the South end of the Sherwood Forest subdivision. It's not…read morethe fanciest park in Highland Park, but it still has its charm and a good number of amenities. Their crushed-limestone path is a great trail for running. It's very even, stays firm even after a rain, and is easy on the joints. There are water fountains along the trail, and at the playgrounds. There are two playgrounds, one suited for younger children, and the other suited for older kids. Between them are a number of benches and tables to park strollers, eat, or hang out. The shelter isn't fancy, but the bathrooms are clean and they have an overhang to protect you from the rain. The baseball diamond is pretty plain, but is fine for a quick pickup game. The two full basketball courts are in good condition, as are the backboards and rims (though they take the nets off during the winter). There appear to be no parking at the north entrance, so you'll have to park along the south end and walk to the park area. The only lights are at the shelter, so you'd best head out before dusk. Early in the spring, sometimes the park district forgets to tend to the grounds as often, and it can become overrun with dandelions and tall grass, but they often get to it after a few days. Mooney park is probably my favorite park in the Sherwood Forest area (with Cloverdale Park a close second).

They have a path surrounding the park as well if you want to go for a stroll. There's plenty of street parking available too alongside Grosse Pointe Circle if you do happen to drive there. Also, there's decent amount of open field for the kids to run around. Pretty nice for families who have big and small kids. You can watch both while conveniently sitting at one of the benches.

It also has lots of tall, old trees that provide shade and ambiance. The area is nestled between the North Shore Channel and a quiet residential street. For some reason, it's difficult to get to by car, and the parking "lot" is minimal, but street parking is plentiful. My kids love this park because it has a spinner toy, slides, and a double swing. The swing set includes one baby swing, one accessible swing, two standard swings, and a pretty cool double swing. Other amenities include one porta-potty on site and a covered picnic area that has four picnic tables and two grills.

Who knew this park existed??…read more It's tucked away in what seems like a residential area and you might think it's just a golf course. But there are newly updated tennis courts (with multiple nets), a playground that's great for a range of ages, and an exercise equipment area! The playground looks updated and has a few swings, slides, a variety of climbing parts. Only downside is that it's woodchips (ouch), and right next to the parking lot/car lane. So you have to be vigilant if you've got a little who's a runner. The exercise equipment area is really nice--and the ground is that bouncy turf. It's pretty cool. And both the playground and the exercise area are pretty well shaded. Definite plus. But it's really nice to have the option for kids to play at the playground while you exercise or play tennis. There's enough here for the family to do and appease everyone.

Old Elm is a solid 3.5 stars compared to other parks in the area…read more This park is a bit older in feel with a limited amount of swings and play structures. However, you will find outdoor tennis courts, a soccer field, and a basketball court. That being said, there's still lots of fun to be had. For a neighborhood park, it's completely sufficient with bathrooms, benches, and a few picnic tables. What makes this park special for me, are the memories created when my boys were small. We took them to Old Elm to climb the play structure, and I might add they met some serious climbing milestones. The best part about revisiting this old stomping ground, is that the boys were playing on the exact same structure with other kids, and they were still having a ball. The patrons are a lovely mix of neighborhood kids and adults. We also noticed a group of college age kids who were, no doubt, revisiting a piece of their neighborhood past. If you're in the area or looking for a different park to explore, this one is endearing and has most likely been around for a long while.

A humble little park, tucked away within the Glenbrook Countryside subdivision, the Glenbrook…read moreCountryside Park packs a lot of amenities in a tiny 1.7 acres. There's parking all along the westbound edge of Oakwood Rd., which can accommodate plenty of vehicles. Trails run the length of the park, starting on the east end near the half basketball court, past the baseball & softball diamond (with backstop and stands), splits around the cushioned play area (featuring some nice playground equipment), past the drinking fountain, along a small picnic area, and off to the exit on Walnut Circle. The grounds are well-maintained, it drains very well so there ground is almost never soggy, the trails are very evenly paved, and all of the equipment is in excellent condition. Other than the lights from neighbors, there are no lights, so you had best get your playtime in before sunset. Because of how well this park is maintained, and because of the excellent drainage, it's one of the better parks to escape mosquitoes during most of the summer season (though they can still buzz in from a distance). If you ever find yourself in the Glenbrook Countryside subdivision, I recommend spending a little time relaxing at the Glenbrook Countryside Park - one of the nice hidden gems of the neighborhood.
