Have had our system for at least fifteen years. Very happy with it. Have replaced the canvases once, with no problems. At an elevation of about 6000' sun is strong, but out system has been great. read more

We live in the San Francisco Bay Area. The afternoon sun is brutal during the summer. We entertained several different ideas/methods to cover our patio and finally found Shadetree Canopies. They are fabulous! The system was installed late December 2005 during landscape remodel. It was finished mid January 2006. We have been so happy with our system. In addition to the overhead awnings, we had them install three shades that we can pull down as the sun is setting. With the addition of the system, we can really enjoy our patio to the fullest. The awnings keep a large amount of sun out of our living room during the summer and fall, however when we pull all the awnings back to the house for winter, we get the sun that we want. Great product. Built a pergola with 5 foot offset beams. The shades are on tracks between the beams and provide total shade. Easy to retract when you want some sun. We live in the north so I take them down for winter. Well engineered process. Very well thought out product. read more

Our deck gets beating afternoon sun and a retractable awning was not an option due to wind. Our builder installed the Shadetree Canopies and liked them so much he put them on his own deck. He had a question and Shadetree worked with him quickly to resolve it. We just had to order two replacement parts and were ready to pay for them but the very nice lady at Shadetree looked us up and told us we were still under warranty. While the product concept is great.... product is cheap. Worst customer service ever!!!! Sent wrong product & claimed to replace it. It's been years & they never fixed the problem. Only paid them half of their money. They didn't seem to give a care! Look for another company that has a similar product. Save yourself the aggravation! read more

The product was decent... not extremely sturdy but it looked good and did it's job for the most part. However... the customer service was the worst I've ever experienced. I had to call the BBB on them to get my canopy back which was there being repaired under warranty. They took nearly 2 months to fix my stuff and were rude and argumentative whenever I questioned them as to why it was taking so long. The whole notion of "The Customer Is Always Right" was definitely not even a shadow of a thought with these guys. I looked at their reviews at the BBB and found that I was not the only one who had had problems. It's a nice looking product but Heaven Forbid something go wrong with them and you actually need customer service because theirs is TERRIBLE... I'd look elsewhere if I did it again. read more

We have had many people inquire about the Shadetree Canopy we installed in our atrium...at this point TEN years old and virtually NO sign of wear, even after exposure to the intense sunlight we get here in the desert! We have numerous problems with our shade tree canopies since their installation in 2008; There is a canopy that has rods which consistently fallen off and the others have become more and more difficult to slide. We just had a technician out last week again. He explained that there were numerous problems with the original installation (which was done by a shade tree installer) including the bars put in the wrong position, the wrong canopy in the wrong place, the locks forgotten to be added etc. . He also feels that our wood is warping which may have contributed to our difficulties. The system itself is great in theory and if it did function properly, it would be great. After paying over $200 last week on repairs, it is functioning fair but not well. read more

I am extremely pleased with my ShadeTree canopy system! I have an enclosed west/southwest facing back patio, which is unusable in the hotter summer months. The ShadeTree system is just what I needed to enjoy my patio year round. Since my patio is small, I purchased the Capri model for it's slim line. It is an elegant system providing lots of flexibility in managing the amount of sun I want to let into my patio area. I was a bit hesitant to order something sight unseen. However, ShadeTree rep Emily Thomas was very helpful in our initial design meeting, as well as extremely patient with all my follow-up questions! Having the installer come out to double check measurements prior to ordering was also reassuring. Getting samples of materials was critical, as was seeing an actual residential installation in my area. I was also very happy with the ShadeTree recommended installer, Franco Alvarez. He was a pleasure to work with; very neat, tidy, and organized, and he did an excellent job installing my canopy system. It has been a pleasure to work with ShadeTree. I had Shadetree canopies installed a number of years ago. I love them. They can be retracted when it's cool outside allowing the sun to warm up the porch. But when it's hot out, they are invaluable for keeping us cool and shady. Make sure to keep the runners clean, and to cover during the winter and they'll last a long time. read more

We could not be on our deck in the afternoon sun; however, now we use it every day because of the protection the Shadetree awning provides. The quality is great! I have had my Shadetree Canopy for about seven years. I have three five-foot wide by ten-foot long panels. I take the panels down in the fall and put them back up in the spring so that they are not exposed to the winter weather; this takes two people about 45 minutes to complete. This canopy system has served us very well and looks like it will last for quite a few more years. Replacement hardware parts are readily available from Shadetree and easy to install. This is a high quality product. read more

We have had our ShadeTree System for 10 years or so and really enjoy it. We live in MA where the outdoor deck season is April thru September. Our South facing deck gets full sun until 5PM in the summer. I custom built a frame to attach to the ShadeTree system. I like it better than some other systems because it is simple and covers more square feet of deck. When covered, the deck becomes a shaded "room" for entertaining or meals as good as any restaurant outdoor dining. If wind comes up when we are not home, the awnings snap free and spill the wind. If it rains, water spills off the edges but if some sections don't snap free, they hold puddles that I need to empty by just releasing the awning from it extended position. I am OK that gaps between awnings allow rain in. If I wanted a roof, I would have spent a lot for a covered deck. When we are away from home for weeks or so, I just tie up the awnings in their retracted position. For the winters, a remove the shades and store them in the house. It takes a step ladder and the provided allen wrench to to the job. The only maintenance needed is to clean the awnings and lube the moving parts once a year or so. (I also put foam into open metal rail ends after finding that wasps liked to nest there. All parts are very high quality and I expect another 10 ten years of service. read more

Had a very poor experience with their installation and service. Installer never seemed to be knowledgeable for set-up of their awning products and the large awning collapsed after the first installation. Several more trips were required to fix that, deal with retraction problems and motor issues. We finally just them remove the awnings and repair our siding. Only received a 80% refund of our $10K+ investment after contacting the company president (Colin Leveque) during several months of this continuing series of issues. Suggestion from this person was to get our lawyer to deal with their lawyer. Should have dealt with another company altogether! read more

I have had my system for many years now. The only real complaint that I have is all the plastic components. they break easily with wind and if your not home when that happens the canopy will start flapping and damage windows and or soffet, which has happened to us. The product has faded a lot but I was expecting that to some point. I have 8 4'x12' approx canopies and 4 5' blinds. read more

I originally installed a 4 panel shade tree canopy almost 10 years ago and just updated my fabric last year. I have been very pleased with the quality of the system and it has really added to the design of my deck and pool area. Living in Michigan -- it is great to have my pool in a very sunny spot to keep it warm -- but it is even better to be able to rest in the shade of my canopy while I my grandchildren enjoy the pool. read more

We love our Shadetree canopy. We recently expanded our deck and added another Shadetree canopy to cover more area. We have owned the original one for about 8 years and it makes our deck liveable. We live near a river in Southern Oregon and it can get warm in the summer afternoons. Now everyone loves to sit out there, sip a glass of our local wine, and watch the river go by--in comfort! Also love the manual system--one less thing to worry about breaking down. We do usually take down the panels in the Fall and put them up in the Spring but our original ones still looked great when we replaced them to expand the area covered. read more

My deck faces west and was unusable after 1pm in the summer. A retractable was not an option because of the lay out. Shsdetree Canopies turned my deck into our favorite space in the summer. I ordered the them offline. Shadetree showed me how to measure and created a CAD design. The customer service team was great and very knowledgeable. I installed them myself (with the help of a friend). Installation was easy and the measurements were spot on. My deck went from being morning only use to all day and night use. Adding Shadetree Canopy to my deck was the best improvement I made to my house!!!! I get more compliments about the deck than anything else inside or outside the house! read more

We love our ShadeTree canopies! We had them installed in 2007 and they still look great. We got the Greenbriar System with corner posts and three canopies. We had some trouble with a couple of small broken pieces several years later. I called the company and they explained how I could fix it or how they could. I tried the fix myself first which worked and saved us money. I appreciate their customer service and have recommended them to several people. read more

We have a canopy and shade system for over 10 years. This year we replaced the shades. We get direct afternoon sun with a western exposure. The shades provide sun and heat relief on our patio making it usable in the late afternoon with temperates nearing 100. They also cool the family room in the summer blocking direct exposure to the late afternoon sun. We are very satisfied with shade tree quality and service. We installed the new shades ourselves after several unsuccessful calls to an independent installer. read more

We purchase our shades several years ago. They are ok. The installation was a nightmare. The guy that Shade Tree recommended to install the shades was incompetent - to a degree rarely seen. He basically shredded our pergola, leaving us with a deck and flower beds filled with debris -- then left. The railings wouldn't work because they could not be properly installed after the pergola beams had been destroyed. And he broke a significant number of the small parts trying to wedge them into the mess he created. We ended up having to have the pergola top rebuilt - and replace the parts -- at our expense. Shade Tree was indifferent to our situation and hid behind their statement that the homeowner takes responsibility for hiring the guy THEY recommend. - We use the shades - but the bitter taste arises every season recalling the COSTLY nightmare that we had to endure. We could not in good conscience recumbent them. read more

I have had my Shade Tree canopies for 9 years now and have found that they are very durable and well made. The first two years I had them I took them down in the fall and put them back up in the spring. I learned that it was much easier to buy the Shade Tree covers and put them on for the winter while leaving the canopies up. The first year I did this I liked how they performed although they rattled and banged when we had high winds. Also since the covers do not fit very tightly in the spring before I could take the covers off I had birds building nests inside the loose space left by the covers. I found that it was better to bind the covers tightly with cord to make sure there was no loose space so that birds could not build nests in the covers. Using the cords to bind the covers also solved the noise problem and kept them secure and in perfect shape even though we have a lot of rough winter weather here in Michigan. I have had some problem with the plastic parts on the support rails and have also had some unraveling of the edges of the canopies. I see from their site that they now bind the edges to prevent this unraveling, that is a much needed improvement. Although these are a fairly expensive product they do perform well, look great when extended or retracted and above all provide the shade I needed to make my outdoor spaces more livable. When the shade are extended they also help keep the inside of the house much cooler than without them. So, all in all I would definitely recommend the Shade Tree canopies. read more
