RWJ Barnabas Health: A Masterclass in Medical Incompetence…read more On July 12, I had a lung test appointment with Dr. Matta through RWJ Barnabas Health. Months later, on November 10, a letter was drafted and mailed to me a month later on December 10. The letter advised me that it was "imperative" I return to discuss my results "as soon as possible." The urgency was striking. The execution was not. The letter, signed by Tammy LaVilla, Practice Administrator, provided a telephone number consisting of six digits. Unless RWJ Barnabas Health has discovered a new telecommunications system unknown to the rest of the United States, this alone should have been a red flag. After doing their job for them, I went online to locate an actual phone number and eventually reached what turned out to be an outsourced call center. The individual I spoke with struggled significantly with English and could not assist me beyond taking a message. That was Friday, December 12, 2025. I wanted to speak to LaVilla to make an appointment as she had instructed. Today is Friday, December 19, 2025. One full week later, I have yet to receive a return call from Ms. LaVilla -- the same person who emphasized how imperative my follow-up supposedly was. Let's be clear about what went wrong here: A letter stressing medical urgency included an invalid phone number. I was forced to hunt down contact information myself. I was routed to a call center incapable of resolving the issue. Despite the proclaimed urgency, no one from the office bothered to call me back. If this is what passes for front-office professionalism and patient coordination, it is deeply concerning. Healthcare depends on trust, accuracy, and basic follow-through. None of those were present here. I initially wondered whether I was being overly critical. Then I read the volume of similar reviews describing the same disorganization, poor communication, and lack of accountability. That made my decision easy. I will not be returning to Dr. Matta. I will not deal further with Tammy LaVilla. And I will not entrust my health to RWJ Barnabas Health again. If you value clear communication, competent administration, and timely follow-up -- especially when words like "imperative" are being used -- I strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere.

Today, July 18, 2024, I went to the Ambulatory Surgery Center, Suite 510, of RWJ Barnabas Medical…read moreCenter at 377 Jersey Avenue, Jersey City, NJ for a gastro issue. I was quite impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and the efficient ambulatory team of Dr. Etan Spira, gastroenterologist, Dr. Garcia and McAllister, anesthesiologists, and the stellar nursing team of Becky, Larry, Cassie, Keller, and Francis, the personable woman at the check-in office. I was honored to have all of them attend to me.
