I returned a few days later for toner to correct my hair by the same stylist, but the result still didn't match what I asked for. I was told "to wait a few weeks" to see how the color washed out. Second appointment (June): this was pre-booked during my March visit. I arrived early with my one-year-old but realized I had forgotten his entertainment bag. I let the front desk know I was here but needed to quickly run home to get it, so we wouldn't disrupt customers. Despite being a returning client, I was told they would give away my slot if I wasn't back within 15 minutes of my appointment time. There was zero flexibility or understanding offered. Owner intervention: after I posted a yelp review after my experience with reception, the owner reached out right away to investigate. She later provided a $100 voucher and arranged for a senior stylist to do my hair at the original stylists rate. When I mentioned I didn't feel comfortable returning to the Shelton location, she offered the option to go to New Canaan. Ultimately, since the stylist had an earlier cancellation and was local to Shelton, they went above and beyond to have me come in on a day they are normally closed. That level of care and service was genuinely impressive. Make-up appointment with senior stylist: once again, I came prepared with clear inspiration photos of ashy blonde hair. Instead, I received golden blonde. When I gave feedback via email to the owner, I was told by them that the ash tone I requested would make my hair look "dull" and "darker" and could only be achieved with a full head of highlights-despite the fact that I had a full head of highlights done a few short months ago. That explanation didn't align with the bright, dimensional Inspiration photos I provided, especially given my existing base. While I truly appreciate the owners commitment to customer satisfaction, the consistent inability to deliver the specific ashy tone I've asked for points to a technical gap in skill or approach. I hesitated to reach out to the owner after this appointment because I didn't want to be perceived as a "problem customer"-first for the Yelp review about how I was treated as a mom and repeat guest, and now again for being disappointed with the final result from this session. But the truth is, clients paying premium prices deserve to receive the color they request the FIRST time they request-especially when they come prepared, clear, and open to direction. I made my appointment online, easy peasy, selected first available for the time slot I desired. The stylist that I was paired up with originally was out sick, so I was moved over to Terry's chair. And as fate would have it, it was a perfect match. As a stylist with over 30 years of experience, she listened to what I was looking to have done, and dare I say it, almost intuitively gave me just what I was looking for. No kidding. As a 45 y/o mother of a 3 1/2 y/o rambunctious boy, I don't consider my hair "sexy" by any means. Terry gave me sexy hair. Even with my jacked up hair color (faded reddish purple by my own creation), it still looks amazing. Not an easy task, I know. She also took the time to explain many things to me about my hair, and what manner of blow drying (for when I have time to do so), would work best for the state my hair is in. Needless to say, I have found my new hair home. If you're looking for someone with oodles of experience, no fuss no muss. When Ann opened Bella Hair Design she notified us that she would be moving to her new location. She gave me all of her contact details as well as a choice whether we wanted to continue to have her as our hairstylist. We have been customers of Bella Hair Design ever since. She has cut and colored my hair as well as my daughter's and continues to cut my son's hair. Over the years, she has become a part of our family, styling our hair for proms and weddings. We are not a high maintenance family. I don't bring in color swatches for her to match my hair color, I trust her making my hair look as close to my original hair color as possible. I don't micro manage Ann, she asks me questions about what I am looking for and my hair always comes out the way I want it to. If she feels something won't look right with my face shape, she will tell me the pros and cons of my choice. Not every hairstyle goes with every face shape and I trust her to give me guidance. All of the stylists in the salon are pleasant and always say hello when they see you. There have also been times when I had to change my appointment and Patty has cut my hair. I have always been very pleased with Patty's styling as well. She, as well as everyone else (Kathleen, Alaina, Val and Joanne) in the salon, make me feel welcome when I am there.
