I have used Sewing Basket for a few years and It came to a Stop !! Over Customer Service and not holding up their end of the job that we agree on. It was early August, I had one winter item and the woman that I was dealing with (not the owner) But the woman that I have seen over the years. She said It wouldn't be done right away (3 to 3 1/2 weeks) so I said fine. So I called after labor day, She told me then I forgot all about it, talk to me in a week or two. That was cool. I just called 6 weeks after i drop it off. She told me she would have to give it to the owner to do the work. I said how long would the job be done she said another 3 weeks. I said will you a price change because of the wait. She said No. I then said this should have been done weeks ago and you should have not contact me. I had to call you several times. Then she said she have no time for this and hang the phone on me. i went by to pick up the item and said I will never use the Sewing basket again and your customer service could be a lot better. I was there today and the employee was in back with 2 lovely young ladies pinning their dresses. I stood there for 10 minutes without and any sort of communication. 9 days ago I dropped off a pair of pants to have one of the pockets sewn. The sign on the window indicated the store was open. There was nobody inside and the door was locked. 35 minutes late a lady was dropped off in a busted old pickup truck and said "thanks for waiting. i'm worth it." Now I'm back to retrieve my pants and again, the time is now 12:03pm, with the sign on the door indicating hours of 11:30 to 5pm. I'm sitting in the parking lot because nobody is here. Two other customers have come to the door as well, both confused and discouraged. I should have went somewhere else. I don't even know if this lady will actually be charging the quoted "about 18 dollars" What an embarrassment. read more

I'd like to share OUR experience with Sewing Basket. I went there to get a new zipper for my husband's shorts. Normally, things like this I fix myself as a lot of women of my generation still do, but a few months ago I hurt my left hand and now being one-handed I just had to ask for a "professional " help ( happened to be VERY UNprofessional) So, I went to Sewing Basket because it conveniently locates almost around the corner from our place. They told me I should stop by in a WEEK !!! and shorts will be ready for $30 (!!!!!!!????????!!!). But I didn't get'em not in a week nor 2 weeks. I didn't get'em for a MONTH. On my 1st "stop by" they told me the shorts are not ready.On the 2nd " stop by" they picked up a wrong zipper ( pale yellow for dark- almost black-shorts). Then they said they will call us when they are done but they never did. I asked my husband to give'em a call ( because I was so sick an tired dealing with that place and those people again and again ) and finally he was able to pick up his shorts ....a month later. And guess what? They didn't give him ANY explanation why this simple 30 minute job took'em 4 weeks and they even didn't give him any apology for doing such a crappy business. My advise: do not EVER go to Sewing Basket on Pearl St. in Essex VT if you want your things to be done properly, on time and if as a customer you do not want to feel so poorly and very much ignored. Can't even RATE this place. I had to give 1 star rating because unfortunately there is no NEGATIVE star rating system ( then it would be MINUS 5 stars.) Was pleased with alterations they did last year on my daughters dress last year by their young employee. This year ABSOLUTELY NOT! Paid almost the same amount and was inconvenienced not once but three times! Daughter had to come in for second fitting 2 days before dress was suppose to be ready for pick up! They had to strategize on the best way to to do the top on what I was told by the owner. Ok sounds like you have no confidence in your employee but ok owner is doing it great! So now dress will be ready Wed before prom..cutting it close.. go to pick up.. guess what.. owner has to help me zip it up daughter cant breathe it's so tight!! No apologies for screwing it up or anything!! She asks if she wearing it higher or were straps fasten when she fitted her? SERIOUSLY!! How can you wear a dress higher?? Then you will be fixing the hem again lady!! Just admit you screwed up! I remained calm and said well she needs to be able to breathe and eat. She cuts the straps in front of me that were cutting into my daughter . Mind you; shes a sz 2 and she had back fat at this point it's so tight on her! She says it will be ready Friday afternoon. We just picked it up.Prom is tomorrow Owner no where in sight. Half the upper back was cut out I swear. Wish I had taken before pics.At least she can breathe I guess. Chest area could have been tighter which was the reason for the alterations! And the hemline! No discount for all the trouble No apology! DO NOT RECOMMEND. Go somewhere else. read more

Rude staff..... I've Heard bad things about this place as far as customer service but I thought I'd give it a try and make my own opinion. What a mistake. All I can say is the old woman with long blonde hair and glasses was so rude from the moment I brought in my clothing to when I picked it up. My shoe has more personality than she does. Clearly she doesn't care about customer service given her lack of a personality. Not sure if she's the owner or an employee but either way she shouldn't be so miserable.
