Within five minutes of stretching yes, stretching in what we reasonably assumed was a designated area, a staff member approached my wife, my nine year old son, and me to ask my son's age. We were then informed, rather abruptly, that no minors under 13 are allowed in that area. Fair enough, rules are rules. Except those weren't the rules we were sold the day before. At signup, we were clearly told that members 13 and up may work out independently, while children 12 and under are allowed so long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. When we pointed out the contradiction, we weren't met with clarification... just a stern double-down. The issue isn't the policy. It's the delivery, the inconsistency, and being corrected in front of a child after being given conflicting information less than 24 hours earlier. SO HERE IS MY TAKE AWAY. Don't rely on the sales pitch. Read the fine print, ask for everything in writing, and understand that what's promised at signup may not survive your first five minutes on the floor.

The locker rooms had showers, blow dryers, and lockers which is great. There's also a machine that spins your bathing suit to get the water out. Which comes in handy!! You can bring your own lock or borrow one from the front. They have water fountains that you can refill your water bottles at with ease. The building is clean and the staff are friendly. They also have a couple different pools, an outdoor water park, putt putt, and tennis courts. They have a sauna and each locker room but it's kind of small. I also wish they had a regular hot tub but they do have a small saltwater pool that is warm. They offer child care and discounts on your monthly fee depending on your financial status and if you're a city or school employee. You can enter the…read moreshopping center from several directions, such as from Kempsville Rd, Indian River Rd, and Kempsriver Dr. The road within the shopping center is Fordham Dr. My visit here was on September 14, 2025. The reason for the visit here that day was to celebrate my nephew's birthday. Many of his friends were there too. The storefront for the business is similar to how many other places are, but you can definitely see the big Ninja Warrior sign across the windows on the outside. After coming inside, there was a table area for everyone to sit. However, at that time, it was playtime for the kids. They were running through an obstacle course to try and beat their prior timed attempts. They were at this for quite a while, and it was fun to watch them try, especially after doing it awhile as you could tell they were getting tired out. I'd call that part mission accomplished. Once the obstacle course time was done, everyone came back to the table to celebrate my nephew's birthday. The staff were getting the next event set up during that time. Everyone had a great time with the cake. The second part of the play here involved the kids vs. adults. The lights were turned off, and it was basically like a Nerf War between them. I didn't do that part of it, but I did watch it all unfold. The kids were very quick to get the adults. There are several hiding areas to avoid getting caught or to sneak attack with the Nerf gun. There were also some mini snowballs you could throw around too. Once that part was done and the lights were back on, you could see everyone was tired out. Overall, this was a great place to have a birthday party. The staff were welcoming, and they were patient with the kids too. The atmosphere in here was tuned to the level of fun. They also have weekly summer camps and other offerings as well. There seems to be something for everyone here. If you are looking for a place to go for a birthday party or some other type of event, be sure to check this place out.

This time was for an event being held in a large meeting room off the lobby. The location is on the portion of Newtown Road where the road turns east & the remainder is called Diamond Springs Road. This portion of the road actually runs between Haygood Road and that split. On the campus of buildings are also two elementary schools. The land, previously a farm, was donated to the city by the Williams Family, There are definite positives & negatives to the indoor pool. It appeared from my viewpoint to be slightly smaller than that of Bayside Rec Center. The walking lanes are fantastic for those who enjoy or need that experience for therapeutic reasons. But it does take away from the pool space for those who go to swim or just splash. There are outside activities that aren't available at Bayside. A large connected & fenced splash area was great for younger kids running through the water on a hot day. It gave the feel of a series of stationary underground sprinklers. I viewed an enclosed skate board ramp. Adjacent to that was something being used that was below ground level. I'm not sure what type of activity was involved. I didn't venture further down the meeting room hall. But the large glass window room in which my event was held was great & very accessible. One big flaw was the lack of handicapped parking spaces. I only saw four & had to park in hinterlands in terrible heat. This Rec Center is a great addition to this part of Bayside. It's walking distance from a lot of condo's & apartments. So kids can get there very easily in the summer. The Williams family's land donation is being put to good use.

Since my go-to rec center was having a check-up, I have been trying out different rec centers in…read morethe area. I'll say that I had a very pleasant experience at Williams Farm. To be perfectly honest, I had no idea this rec center even existed, but I'm glad that I know about it. The rec center has all of the features of the other local rec centers - pool, open gym, weight room, cardio machines, indoor track, clean (very important) locker rooms, and free (and plentiful) lockers. Extra points for the showers in the locker room because each shower has an additional partition so one can shower in one partition and change in the other. The weight room is pretty comparable to a smaller gym's, but the center has all the equipment that one would need for a general workout. Actually, I think this center's weight "room" (or should I say weight open space) is a bit larger than a couple of the other VB rec centers. I noticed this rec center had a few bench presses and deadlift squat apparatuses. This is in contrast to my regular rec center, which has only one of each. I really enjoyed that the rec center has plenty of large windows so the weight room and indoor track receive plenty of natural sunlight, which leads to a cheerful workout . . . at least for me. The staff was pretty much nice and very helpful in providing directions to different parts of the gym. While this rec center is somewhat out of the way for me, I definitely will visit when my local recenter is closed.

But here, you get so much for what you pay! They have tons of classes at a variety of times. My go-to's are kettlebells and Tabata--they're such killer workouts but in the best way. One of the things I love most is that the instructors actually do the workouts with you, which is so motivating. Plus, they're super helpful if you need modifications--they just want you to feel good and do your best. And even though this is one of the smaller YMCAs, the vibe is always friendly and welcoming. Just a heads-up, though--weekend classes can get pretty packed, so I recommend showing up early if you want to grab a good spot! I look forward to my workouts here, and it's such a great community. Whether you're a total fitness newbie or a gym rat, there's something here for everyone.

WRV has been my spot for summer clothes in the Virginia Beach area. The social distance guidelines are being followed there are signs posted on the door and there's hand sanitizer as soon as you walk in. They always have the best selections of clothing for men. The men's section takes up a quarter of the whole store so you shouldn't have a problem finding something that you would like. When I went in there today they had a lot of items on clearance, including shirts, shorts, swimming shorts, and sandals. They also have a really good variety of sunglasses both cheap and expensive. As long as I've been going here, for over 15 years, The employees always go out of their way to help you find something that you want. I have never had any trouble finding help when I needed it.
