We often go down to High Point to look at fabric, but this warehouse in Wallburg is closer to Winston-Salem. They have a large but not overwhelming selection of fabrics with the bolts organized according to color. That made it easy to work through. IIRC the fabrics were all $8 a yard, which also made shopping easy. Best of all were the employees. Two different employees checked in with us to make sure we were finding what we needed and offering any help. Definitely going here for all our fabric needs in the future.

The selection is fair; do not expect high end/ high quality fabric. One recent time when I bought three clothing patterns that were on sale, the sales clerk didn't notice that their computers were not updated regarding the sale and I would have been charged $45 rather than the sale price total of $9. Be on your toes about sale prices! I don't blame the person working there as this is not a store known for being tech savy. Still, know that sometimes their checkout computers are off. One nice section of JoAnn's is their upholstery fabric wall in the far back of the store. Use one of the perpetual 40% off coupons, and you will get a fair price for your decorating materials. The staff vary in their personalities. I suspect staff grumpiness is proportional to how long they worked there. When I get fabrics cut, a lot of the workers will make nice small talk and ask about my project or talk about what crafting they like to do. I am sure that if you have a question and ask nicely, they will try there best to help. All in all, there are limited places to get fabric in Winston Salem, and this JoAnn store is fine for basic needs.

I got enough fabric to make two shirts and a long dress for only $5. There is a wide array of materials, from lightweight cotton fabrics to knits to suedes and velvets to heavy home decorating fabric. There is also a whole section of ribbons and rick-rack at very affordable prices. You can easily spend an hour in this store! The three main setbacks of this store are 1) While there is a lot of fabric, they don't always have the exact fabric you are looking for in the color/pattern you want. So you have to come in here with an open mind as to what projects you will do with the fabric. 2) You don't always know what material the fabric is, so taking care of it may be a mystery and 3) Often the pieces are odds and ends (sometimes very long ones though), so you may find a fabric you love, but not have enough for your desired project. Still, don't let those small roadblocks prevent you from visiting. For people who love sewing and crafting, this store is a gold mine!

Their pricing is very reasonable, but supplies are extremely limited, because all materials are donated, so when they are gone, they are gone. I picked up a few small things, and the pricing couldn't be beat. Their hours are also very limited only open 10-1 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so plan your visit accordingly. I'll definitely be back at some point to see what new supplies they have!
