Wonderful open air museum in Helsinki, Finland. It was one of our stops on our day excursion. Overall, it was a nice visit here. It was interesting and educational viewing all the various buildings and structures at Seurasaari. Many cottages, farmsteads, manors, and other structures were relocated here from all over Finland. They give wonderful examples of the traditional Finnish way of life back in the day. Good place to visit once. Don't know if I would visit again though.

If you're going to visit Helsinki, this is a must. Catch the #24 bus to the last stop and cross over the bridge to beautiful Finnish nature. It's an open air museum with many old buildings from all over the country from the Lake District to Lapland in the far north. Admission to the museum which is scattered around the island is €9 but you can just wander around the beautiful island for free as well. There are also three nude beaches. The cafes here are obnoxiously expensive so bring drinks and shacks. It is hilly so be sure to wear comfortable shoes as well. A great place to visit to escape from the city a mere 20 minute bus ride away. Highly recommended.

Super cool museum smack downtown (I think). Our primary purpose was the kids area as we had three kiddos that desperately needed some play and imagination time after walking the city for some time. They've got a whole section for the kiddos with lots of stuff to jump around and climb on, an old kitchen where play food lives and a small stage where they can put on puppet shows. There's another area where they house classic toys - sort of a tease to have them displayed but not let the kids play with them, but they're fun to look at! Entry was free and there appeared to be plenty of other stuff to check out throughout the place. Stroller parking is outside but easily seen from the kids area and there's a coffee shop right off the main entryway. There's really no reason to not be checking this place out, especially if the kiddos are in tow!

On my visit, I saw "Mad About Helsinki," which was about places in the city that people have always had a connection with, and explanations about what makes them special or relevant even today. It was interesting to find out about places that no longer exist (such as the mermaid tanks) as well as spots that remain favorites to this day (like Cafe Regatta). In addition to two floors of this exhibition, there was also a room featuring photography from the city during the early 20th century. All in all, it took less than an hour to see everything, and it was nice to have some added context. if you're going to be in town for more than a few days, it's worth checking the museum out.

I enjoyed quite a lot of the art here, paintings and some sculptures. The more "modern" stuff is the art that I really enjoy. And then there's the "contemporary" which is sometimes a little bit too far above my head to really understand. Political messages, I tend to find a little challenging. Still, art is subjective and I'm sure you will enjoy this museum just as much as I did. [Review 10062 overall, 1647 of 2018.]

What a cool art museum! HAM, or Helsinki Art Museum is a modern/contemporary art museum located in…read morea big shopping mall. HAM contributes a great cultural gem for the city here, with thought-provoking and interesting works of art. They had a big exhibition on Parisian art from around the time that Picasso was painting there, showing a lot of where he got his influences. They also had a seemingly permanent exhibition of photographs of a Finnish rock quarry that has interesting sounding geological features. When we went, the top floor of the museum was off-limits due to their ongoing installation of a new exhibit. So I felt like we missed a good deal of the museum's space. The museum is easy to get around, and the artworks are titled and described in English as well as Finnish. Outside the museum, there's a cool gift shop, with reasonably priced prints, cards, and some art supplies. They even have a clearance section with cool artsy books in Finnish! The museum also contributes large scale works of art to the mall that it's located in- so check out the chandelier made from pots and pans and the other big sculptures! I was really glad to find this museum. It's got some cool stuff! The best part, was we happened to show up on half-priced day- Score!
