Rashidah made me feel like I was her only client. She must be so busy and yet she always returned my calls and emails same day. She is a calm and pleasant person to talk to and puts you at ease. She explains everything and helps you to understand the documents before you sign, no matter how many questions. Her service cost exactly what she said it would. Everything she did was quick and efficient. My closing date was April 1 2020 right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic (I had signed my contract in December, but you know how long co-ops take). The seller's lawyer didn't come to the closing in person due to social distancing. Rashidah handled everything, since it was just signatures on documents that had already been prepared. She brought hand sanitizer and a mask and extra pens, and made sure that the seller's attorney called him on Zoom before we started so he could be virtually present. Apparently Serpico, Serpico & Siddiqui is not interested in new clients. I called on a recent Thursday morning to ask about fees for representation in an upcoming refinancing. I was told that someone would call me back after 2:00 PM. No call. I called again on Friday and was told that the attorney who was supposed to call me back on Thursday was just too busy. I was then told that she wasn't in on Friday because she was training for a running competition on the weekend. When I asked when she would call, I was told that my call would be referred to one of the partners. My impression was that someone would call me either later on Friday or maybe on Monday. That was over a week ago. Never heard back from anyone. I have to wonder how they treat actual clients if this is how they treat prospective clients. read more

Walk don't run from these folks. I had the misfortune of dealing with Rashidah S. Siddiqui. At first she seemed very responsive but as we continued to communicate she became increasingly slippery about her fees. In the end she refused to take me as a client and blew me off. SHE WROTE: We generally charge a flat fee and we stick to that flat fee unless there is an extraordinary amount of work involved. I WROTE: What is the definition of "extraordinary amount of work." SHE WROTE: That normally happens in a situation where Seller has to issue a Time of Essence closing when the buyer fails to close and may involve negotiating return of down payment, etc. or of you have to move into property prior to closing so an agreement has to be negotiated to allow you to move in, etc. If situations that tend to go in that direction we will discuss with you. I WROTE: If I were reviewing a contract and looked in the definitions section for "extraordinary amount of work." and saw the description you listed I would be very confused. I buy a lot of legal services for my business and am very cautious who I bring on to my "team". I am also pretty good at working with attorneys to keep legal cost affordable on transactions. It comes with clear communications and expectations setting. I am not trying to make your business unprofitable. I have been proposed a fixed fee service with a fudge factor that might make the cost higher. If the transaction involves less work than anticipated then you make a great profit. If it takes more, then you get to bill me more. In either case you are protected. If you can provide me with a more straight forward answer as to how "extraordinary amount of work" is defined I might be happy to work with you. SHE WROTE: I can certainly understand your concerns. However, I cannot give you a further firm definition of "extraordinary amount of work". I gave you examples at what may happen in a real estate deal that would amount to that work. As further stated we have discussions with our clients in any situation that goes beyond a standard deal which includes the services as described below. I WROTE: Lets move forward with this transaction. I assume that the next step is an engagement letter for me to review. I will pass your name on to my real estate agent. SHE WROTE: I appreciate your decision to use our firm for your transaction. However, we are in the process of moving offices after 25 years in the same location, and will not be able to give your transaction the time and attention it will require at this moment.
