Pete was very thorough with problem areas (currently recovering from a shoulder surgery) really took his time and explained and answer all my questions and concerns. Sani welcomed me as soon as I walked in. He asked me what I wanted to focus on and we went to work. I get like 2+ massages a month, so I sort of know what I like. Sani was great. I told him I wanted my upper back, tops of shoulders, deltoid area, and left hip/glute. While he used great pressure on my upper back, I prefer much more pointed, focused, deep tissue massages where they dig into a knot to the point where you can feel the crunchy trigger point as it releases. Sani had a smoother, sweeping technique. He would press on trigger points to get them to loosen up a bit but wouldn't keep at it. I don't know anything about massage techniques but I wonder if this is because his speciality might be sports massage? Anyway, it was more than adequate and I left feeling relaxed but my shoulders were still a bit locked up when I left (to be fair to him, my shoulders are always ridiculously tight so they require a lot of attention). Why he gets 4 stars is because of his work on my deltoid area which I had previously injured and is still healing. He focused a lot of pressure and used his fingers to help break up whatever scar tissue or fascia or whatever. I definitely had greater range of movement in my shoulder after I left. Same for my glute medius/lower left back area. It's perennially tight and painful but Sani used a bit of compression, manipulation of my legs, and stretching to help loosen up my back. This is where he excelled as a therapist. My TL;DR is if you're an athlete and/or need to get specific parts of your body worked on due to injury, Sani is your man. He can help get that range of motion you lack back to your affected area. He reminds me of the sports massage therapists that works closely with a PT or chiropractor. I would trust him to get me back to competing in whatever sport I was in 100%. In terms of the run of the mill deep tissue/therapeutic massage. I thought he was still very good but not completely aligned with my preferences of smashing a trigger point into submission no matter how much pain it requires. Perhaps that's why this place is called Active Sports Massage. haha. Anyway, well worth the trip and the money. I'll be back when I'm on that side of the island.

After a week of pills, rest and stretching I was still in pain but somewhat mobile. A friend told my wife about Mati and she called for an appointment. At that moment I knew I made a good choice. She dug into and gave special attention to the muscles that would affect my shoulder pain. I left feeling relaxed and was pain free through the entire range of motion. A couple of days later and I'm still pain free. I also mentioned that occasionally I get back pain but didn't elaborate. While lying on the table, she asked if it was my lower back, which it was. She could tell by the position of my legs/feet. I told her I occasionally get muscle spasms and I had gone for PT years ago. She again told me the same thing the therapist did back then. After my session, she showed me some stretches for my hip felxors. MARTIN IS THE GOAT OF ACUPUNCTURE & MASSAGE!! First of all, wifey was lookin for any Dr nearby that could help me with my shoulder/neck/back pains & migrains. My work is very physical & labor intensive. She searched thru YP, BBB, references from personal contacts, etc. Finally she looked thru Yelp & found Dr. Martin with a 5 star rating & also found her on the BBB. I really hate needles, but was willing to try anything at that point cause the pain was that bad. The first time I went to her was around spring 2019. After the first treatment it felt like the pressure in my neck/shoulders was greatly improved. Now I see her at least every 2 weeks for maintenance. My migrains are few and far between. Before it was several times a month. I used to see different massage therapists & chiropractors, but I didn't feel like it was really helping in the long term. This did throw me off but I allowed him to run through his routine. Every therapist is different. Once massaging he was very considerate and modest with draping, he was consistent with his pressure and offered adjustments, and he was very methodical on the rotation through a full body massage.
