My sister has been in town and we've been spending a lot of time at my mom's house in Hawaii Kai. So when I read this place offers a lymphatic drainage massage, I thought we should check it out and oh my goodness...Lucy was just amazing. She did both of us and we agreed it was the best massage ever. From arrival to departure, everything was handled with such grace and class. My favorite (aside from the massage itself) was the hot green tea at the end. Thank you, Lucy and Season Thai Massage...we will be back!!

Rest of review: Had two massages here. Lucy was good, I asked for medium strength and felt very relaxed afterwards. Nina there was a language barrier. I asked for high strength but it was too painful. You'll need to speak up if it's too sore, even if you're flinching, I trusted her to moderate and let me know, since I work out a lot and am extremely tight. I did feel looser after but it was too much for my body to handle and I had to rest the entire night and next morning. Today I had an appointment with Lucy. They said whoever schedules accepted my appointment but forgot to write it down, so I arrived and they asked me to reschedule. This is my only day to destress, so I was disappointed. One hour is $95. The massages themselves would probably be 4*, the price feels a little expensive.

Sani welcomed me as soon as I walked in. He asked me what I wanted to focus on and we went to work. I get like 2+ massages a month, so I sort of know what I like. Sani was great. I told him I wanted my upper back, tops of shoulders, deltoid area, and left hip/glute. While he used great pressure on my upper back, I prefer much more pointed, focused, deep tissue massages where they dig into a knot to the point where you can feel the crunchy trigger point as it releases. Sani had a smoother, sweeping technique. He would press on trigger points to get them to loosen up a bit but wouldn't keep at it. I don't know anything about massage techniques but I wonder if this is because his speciality might be sports massage? Anyway, it was more than adequate and I left feeling relaxed but my shoulders were still a bit locked up when I left (to be fair to him, my shoulders are always ridiculously tight so they require a lot of attention). Why he gets 4 stars is because of his work on my deltoid area which I had previously injured and is still healing. He focused a lot of pressure and used his fingers to help break up whatever scar tissue or fascia or whatever. I definitely had greater range of movement in my shoulder after I left. Same for my glute medius/lower left back area. It's perennially tight and painful but Sani used a bit of compression, manipulation of my legs, and stretching to help loosen up my back. This is where he excelled as a therapist. My TL;DR is if you're an athlete and/or need to get specific parts of your body worked on due to injury, Sani is your man. He can help get that range of motion you lack back to your affected area. He reminds me of the sports massage therapists that works closely with a PT or chiropractor. I would trust him to get me back to competing in whatever sport I was in 100%. In terms of the run of the mill deep tissue/therapeutic massage. I thought he was still very good but not completely aligned with my preferences of smashing a trigger point into submission no matter how much pain it requires. Perhaps that's why this place is called Active Sports Massage. haha. Anyway, well worth the trip and the money. I'll be back when I'm on that side of the island.

(Review 3 of 2020)…read more How many people can say they found the GOAT of a particular field/practice?? (me me ME!! - waving hand in the air) I BELIEVE DR. MARTIN IS THE GOAT OF ACUPUNCTURE & MASSAGE!! First of all, wifey was lookin for any Dr nearby that could help me with my shoulder/neck/back pains & migrains. My work is very physical & labor intensive. She searched thru YP, BBB, references from personal contacts, etc. Finally she looked thru Yelp & found Dr. Martin with a 5 star rating & also found her on the BBB. I really hate needles, but was willing to try anything at that point cause the pain was that bad. The first time I went to her was around spring 2019. After the first treatment it felt like the pressure in my neck/shoulders was greatly improved. Now I see her at least every 2 weeks for maintenance. My migrains are few and far between. Before it was several times a month. I used to see different massage therapists & chiropractors, but I didn't feel like it was really helping in the long term. For me, Dr. Martin uses the needles, electro therapy (she zaps me - in a good way. hehehe), suction cups, heat therapy, & a few other stuff here & there. Time flies cause we get to talkin about what treatments she's doin, things goin on in our lives, & other stuff. She's like the funny Chinese Haole Auntie that you love to visit & chat with all the time. When I say Chinese Haole, I mean that very affectionately. She uses Chinese medicine & knows her stuff (she's been doin this for 35 years now) & she's Haole (a.k.a. Caucasian/White). After the first appointment, you can make your appointments online. I dunno how cause wifey does it for me. Wifey goes to Dr. Martin as well. We both love her cause she's good at what she does, very personable, her receptionist (Danielle) is awesome, & she really cares about fixing you up. My insurance covers acupuncture, so I only need to pay a small co-pay. Go check with your insurance to see if yours does too. Go see her & see for yourself what everyone is raving about! A Hui Hou!

As mentioned I booked a 2 hour massage which allowed him to spend a little more time with initially assessing my body's needs before actually massaging. This did throw me off but I allowed him to run through his routine. Every therapist is different. I just wanted a color touch-up and her prices were more reasonable than some of the other stylists I had checked out. She did a very thorough job coloring my hair and I felt like it was more of a full color rather than just a touch up! She utilized a new type of Paul Mitchell coloring product that processes in 10 min as opposed to 30 min. Wow, I'm on board with that! Afterwards she dried my hair using a hair brush dryer (the double shot by Drybar) and my hair looked like I just had a blow out!
