We had a trio (three guitars) and it was perfect for background music at our cocktail reception.

Rigo is the best! Originally, I hired a different band but they canceled on me last minute. I…read morecontacted Rigo 2 days before my event letting him know my original band canceled and he came through for us! He was very responsive and professional, but what impressed me most is how incredibly caring he was. He seemed to truly care about making sure our event was special, even personally calling my husband to recommend a song that he thought would make my mom, the guest of honor, very happy. It was a song from a daughter to her mom and when I heard the lyrics, I immediately started crying tears of joy. The song was perfect! Everyone was impressed by the vocals and instrumental! Thank you, Rigo for making our event perfect! Also, just from a logistics standpoint: Payment was straightforward. He provided a nicely organized sheet via email for us to fill out to ensure all the details of the event were clearly outlined which made me confident that everything would go smoothly. He arrived promptly (even a little early) which was impressive given the distance he traveled for the event. Lastly, he is bilingual which was very helpful for me as my Spanish is very limited.

For my birthday my daughter surprised me by having Rigo sing. When I opened my front door, he was…read morestanding on my front lawn, elegantly dressed in a "Charro" outfit. Then he started singing "Las Mananitas" so beautifully, it brought me to tears. I loved his voice, probably the best I have ever heard. His continuous smile throughout his singing truly made me feel that he sincerely cared about making my day special, even personalizing the song with my name. In my opinion you cannot go wrong hiring him. In fact, my husband and I are so impressed we have no doubt that we will hire him should another special occasion arise.

I'm in love with this venue for a multitude of reasons. First, let's give respect where respect is…read moredue: this is not just a venue, this is an intentional community of artists. And not just musicians, but there are local artists items for sale in the front shop; there is a podcast growing out of this location; and there is lots of mentoring, growth, inspiration, and the what every artist looks for, great after hour hangs with like minded folx. I'm a fan of the space because the acoustics are always just right, and the lighting is vibrantly cozy. There is no bad seat in the house, and I can always find a place to slink into the back drop of events, even though it's hard to show up here and not engage in some friendly conversation with the regulars. It's the way my artist friends rave about this place that also makes me recommend it to anyone looking for a new venue to hear local music, or tell visiting artists about it. I feel confident that you are going to watch a quality show, have a good time, drink some REALLY good beer, and if you like tater tots, order The King Tut tots (they always hit for me). But in all seriousness, this is a venue that is more than just an establishment. So I'm curious if it also serves as a meeting place for community groups. I'd love to see this place used to really bring all walks of life together, not just those who are musically inclined, artistic, or a consumer of the two. Because there is something magical about the history behind SLG Art Boutiki & Gallery's inception, and the walls are full of tales that need to be told to keep its story alive in San Jose. Please check out a show here in 2025, visit the gallery, listen to the podcast, and tell me if I'm wrong for having a fond attachment to this place. I bet you'll find a new hidden gem to gush about, too.

So sad this place is closing! Great bands, great vibes, plus food and comics…read more I have great memories - thanks Dan Vado for years of local entertainment!

We attended this summer concert series this past weekend at Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown SJ,…read morefeaturing the Beach Boys on a pleasant Sunday evening. Earlier in the afternoon, there was plenty of shade underneath the trees for picnicking on the grassy field with a view of the musical performances on stage. The line for entry at opening time (4pm) was freakishly long, wrapping around the park. But once we got through security, it didn't feel overcrowded, and the atmosphere was simply carefree and relaxing. Several merchandise vendors had tents set up, nothing too unique. But there was a nice variety of food trucks on site including Waffle Amore, Paper Platez (selling tacos, burritos, and nachos), and The Habit Burger Grill (who knew they had a food truck!?!). The veggie eggrolls from Saigon Street Food 2 were phenomenal, along with the pork belly banh mi which was too good to not finish every last bite. We also shared other snacks, like pizza from Fire & Slice and a lion king roll from MC Sushi... everything was quite satisfying. And the beer and sangria from the drink tents were pretty good too. The Rainbow Girls band opened at 5:30pm with a lovely rendition of All I Have To Do Is Dream. The DJ playing songs like Jackson 5's I Want You Back and Wipeout in between sets. And of course, the headlining Beach Boys put on a lively and entertaining show with cool graphics on the screen on stage, so much energy by the musicians, especially on the saxophone and drums. They had us dancing and smiling all night long to an awesome playlist of some of their greatest hits including Good Vibrations, God Only Knows, Kokomo, I Get Around, Don't Worry Baby, California Girls, and more. And though the VIP section was larger and fancier than I've seen at other live music events at this park, the cheaper early bird tickets for $35 were not a bad deal at all for enjoying good food, great weather, and amazing entertainment, and just having fun, fun, fun.

Was there last week with my friend to see Blue Oyster Cult. Great venue! Plus the staff were also…read morevery nice and helpful. We had VIP seats and the setup was nice. Loved the vibe. I would definitely go back if another band I like happens to play there.

Second Saturday on The Alameda - J. Lohr Vineyards (live music)

Free art exhibits, live music, delicious food and drinks... this is definitely my kind of event!…read moreVarious musicians performing at participating venues during specific times throughout the day, it was enjoyable entertainment. First I stopped by Whole Foods, cuz ya know, I could fit in a little bit of grocery shopping in between songs. Lots of outdoor seating around, and David Jesitus (duo) performing for passersby. Then, off to Visual Philosophy Studio, where I got to check out the opening reception for Encode-I art exhibit by Yue Xin, and met the artist while listening to the sounds of Asher Stern (unique covers of songs like Santeria and No Diggity). Afterward, Hop & Vine made the most sense since it was just a few minutes walk away. Had some really great wine and snacks here, specifically the house made jalapeno poppers were delicious. Peter Martin wowed the cozy-sized crowd with his electric guitar and vocals, playing a range of songs, including instrumentals for hits like Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud. He played till 7pm, an hour later than the listed time for Second Saturday on The Alameda. Many of these artists did a lot of folksy music and renditions of songs, and I was loving it. My final stop for the night was J. Lohr Vineyards, the only one with live music later in the evening on this day, two hours of duets and harmony by the Complements... so many covers on the keyboard, guitar, and vocals including How Deep is Your Love, Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, Hotel California, Your Song, Can't Help Falling in Love, Take On Me, and I Wanna Dance With Somebody. I was able to experience so much in just a few hours. Even without stops at the tattoo parlor, coffee shop, or pancake house (other spots that had live music on this Second Saturday as listed on the schedule), I was more than satisfied with my visit to this event. A great opportunity to explore and support local businesses along the Alameda while appreciating the work of various artists and entertainers at no cost, with bonus freebies offered by specific venues as well. I'll definitely be back.
