Sequoia flight (in front), Seasonal flights (in back)
Isaac G.

This place is phenomenal! My partner and I only went for a sake tasting (hosted Saturdays 2-7pm), wanting to learn more about the craft and method of sake brewing. I had expected a few options on offer for tasting, but was very pleased with the six (!!) different flights of three sakes each. We ended up trying the "signature" Sequoia flight and the seasonal flights, and were so enamoured with both that we ended up purchasing a whole bottle featured from either flight. Our host was very gracious, and gave us lots of information on each individual sake and the background on its brewing and characteristics. We walked away with not only two bottles of delicious sake, but also a deeper knowledge and understanding of different sake types and what we may prefer when ordering at restaurants later. We also liked the seating, as you could see much of the brewing equipment and warehouse where "the magic is made". We will definitely be on the lookout for more of their sake around SF!

Just wow! Courteous service (albeit a little slow), allowed us a free tour of the sake process Delicious sake, I ended up taking 3 bottles home. Lots of variety and seasonal flavors and the prices are totally doable also My friend is a member so we got 10% off Located in a weird industrial place so it's definitely not made for foot traffic but it's definitely worth the planned visit

I highly recommend trying this place. I like the location, it's easy to drive, park and walk in. The food and drinks were excellent. I can't wait to come back again and try the seasonal menu.

Cozy little hidden gem in South of SF! One of our friends has a membership here which comes with complimentary 4 flights of sake tasting upon each visit. We tried 4 different flights and liked the sequoia and coastal ranges the most. Friendly and knowledgeable owners and a great spot to hangout with friends.

Coming here and having a flight of sake is always a nice treat. Small, intimate tasting rooms with communal seating. It's always a decent crowd but not too busy where it's uncomfortable. Their food selection was very limited, and I would recommend you plan to eat somewhere else afterward. I love the limited collection!

Small and welcoming tasting room in the middle of an industrial estate near the Dogpatch. It was pretty full the day we went but the owners told us that it is usually pretty calm. You're literally sitting in their factory which is smaller than I expected and service is friendly and warm. The sake tasting is pretty affordable and interesting! Our favorite was the unpasteurized namazake which is hard to find since all imported sake needs to be pasteurized for export. I liked that they had a whole variety of different sakes to taste and the seasonal one was interesting. I think the best thing about this place is that you know it's all small batch produced by the people telling you about the sake so you can really feel their passion for the product. Another win is that you can get local namazake!

Cute industrial feel (basically a tasting room in a warehouse, excellent service, and several sake flight options. We were given a nice overview of sake differences as they serve unfiltered as well as details on the different types in the flights we ordered. In addition to the sake flights, they did have small snacks available to order. Overall it was a great experience. Highly recommend!

Fantastic tour and tasting experience today at Sequoia Sake. Highly recommend this informative and delicious event. Very clean and organized location with a bathroom right in the front. Service was excellent - the two owners were the hosts and did the tour and tasting. Will definitely be back. I bought bottles of sake to gift the wonderful teachers that work with my children and other bottles to drink with friends and family. A special and unique experience to tour and taste a local sake brewery with such high standards for quality and taste. Thank you!

This is truly a hidden gem. I actually really enjoy sake but I suppose it always falls off the radar when not eating Japanese food. As the owners of Sequoia Sake reminded me, sake is very versatile!! We booked a private tasting for my brother-in-law's birthday. The 6 sake we tasted were delicious and paired surprisingly well with the cheese and nuts that were given, so it's not limited to just Japanese food, people! I would say our favorite was the nigori. They also have "fusion" flavors where the sake has been in a whiskey barrel and a wine barrel, or the jalapeno. Creative! We had a tour of the brewery and the sake making process as well. I would say with the food pairing, it truly is "light bites"- cheese, nuts, olives. Of course we had to bring some bottles home. Thank you Sequoia Sake for highlighting and giving sake the love it deserves!

What a hidden gem in the industrial area! Sequoia is San Francisco's first local artisan sake brewery run by a husband and wife team. It's very tucked away among the warehouses, but there is a lot of signage to show you the way. Once in, you are led to a table and offered reasonably-priced tastings of flights of their sake ($12 for three). The pours are generous and staff walk you through each of the drinks. I would recommend the Coastal flight because two of their award-winners are included. The Sequoia Flight is also interesting because it is unpasteurized, and you can't get genshu like that in many places. The only downside is they don't offer food so make sure to carbo load beforehand or you'll be really feeling it after.

if you love sake, def come visit this brewery. it is a small business run by husband and wife. they are so friendly, very knowledgeable. if have questions about sake, def ask them. they will answer in great detail :) this is a cozy brewery, sake was amazing! it was def great learning about unpasteurized sake, and how they infused peppers to their sake. we ended up getting all the flights. i really like their coastal and spicy flights. that habanero was strong but good. but my fav was jalapeño. ended up getting a bottle for home:) the barrel aged flight was good as well. careful with that bourbon, it was strong. i will def come back here!

So glad I stumbled across Sequoia Sake as I was searching for a nice tasting room in the city. The owners provide excellent hospitality and so knowledgeable about their products. They offer very unique sake that I have not had before. I enjoyed the seasonal and the spicy flights. Such a lovely experience and I recommend this to everyone. Really reasonable prices too.

We were educated and did all the flights! Thank you guys! It was a great experience. Parking was easy and the ambience was just right, not loud at all.

I met here with an acquaintance to discuss something important over drinks & we had a special time. The nature of our discussion was certainly influenced in a relaxed manner by the mild volume music playing, soft lighting, and high ceilings. The interior was beautiful, very custom lighting covers & wooden racks. Somewhat large selection of wines/sake but it wasn't overwhelming due to the simplified menu that they provided. Service was top tier, a server stopped by about three times to collect empty containers, refill water, and check-in about how the drinks were. With a friendly expression on their face each time. The lucky dog sake juice box and beer combo was SUUUUCH a good move! I've been a fan of the lucky dog/cat/chicken brand, for their fun packaging of beers. However, I did not know that they craft sake wine boxes too. That is out of this world! And I believe that, to use a baseball metaphor, they "hit the ball out of the park!" On this one. The beer wasn't half bad either. Would I recommend going to Millay? Hell yeah dude!!!

It's not too far from the main street in the area, and the moment I got out of my uber, I knew this place would be a vibe! I came here at 7:30pm the day after Christmas, so it was empty. I love the vibe of Millay - artsy decor, pink neon lights, and cute seats to sit in. I tried two different types of clean + fruity sake, and it came in such a cute ceramics! The cashier helped us choose, and we were able to taste it before purchasing. I also loved their basket of Asian chips! They even made it a lil fancy by cutting the top and making it look like a bowl haha. A great spot for a small social gathering of 2-4 people. I love the chill vibes and intimate setting. I will defs be back!

When we were in…read moreSan Francisco, we wanted to have a nice lunch on the pier, close to the ship, and have a wine tasting. We have previously visited San Francisco and have had wine tastings in Napa/Sonoma a couple of times. On this trip, we wanted to go to a tasting close to the ship. In our research, we found the Winery Collective which had excellent reviews. We made reservations for our day of arrival and after a lunch. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Mike who conducted our tastings. Mike told us that the Winery Collective had wines from small boutique wineries from different California regions. There were several tastings from which we could choose, or a customized tasting could be presented based upon our likes. One could also choose a glass of available wines. My wife chose the Sweet Life tasting of 5 wines for $25. I chose Mix It Up which had a variety of award winning wines for $25. Mike was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. He talked about each of the wines that were tasted and possible food pairings. He answered all of our questions. At the end, Mike also gave me a tasting of 2 additional wines that I requested. Before leaving, I purchased a couple of bottles to take back to the ship. I wanted to buy more, but had a limit on the number that I could take back onboard. The Winery Collective was easy to find and a short walk from the ship after lunch on the pier. After tastings in Napa/Sonoma, we are very happy that we went to the Winery Collective and met Mike. We would definitely visit again.

I had never been…read moreto a place with wine on tap before, where you can select your own wine and serving size, though I've been to similar spots that offered beer instead. A few of us went on a weekday evening after a gym class, and fortunately the atmosphere was casual enough that we didn't feel underdressed. It was pretty quiet, and there were still plenty of high-top tables and lounge areas available when we arrived. The staff were friendly and explained how everything worked - they link your credit card to an Embarc card (with a QR code), which you then scan to select and pour your wines. I appreciated that there wasn't really a pricing incentive for larger servings - so, in a way, that made it easier to try smaller 1 oz tastings of multiple wines without feeling pressured to commit to half or full glasses, which is ideal if you enjoy exploring different options like I do. We were a bit pressed for time since they closed at 8pm that day, so I'm def looking forward to coming back to try more drinks (they rotate their offerings) and spend some more time enjoying the ambiance.

When you walk in, there are loungey sofas and high top tables with wine dispensers on both sides of the room and a bar in the back. You can grab a seat anywhere you want and then approach the bar for a tap card and run down of the wines they have. The tap card can be used to dispense any of the wines on the walls. I loved being able to try a bunch. I will say it got a little tedious to get up and down after every taste and disrupted good conversation, but you can just grab another glass and get two at a time! The wines were basically sorted old world and new on the two walls. There was also one case (so four wines) of non alcoholic wine! I have been super interested to try more non alcoholic wine so would love to see this featured or switched up every once in a while! The person working the night we went was very nice and helped me when a spout didn't seem to dispense right. That said, the recommendations felt a little off? I said I like white, crisp, and on the drier side like a chenin Blanc. They recommended a Chardonnay and a Moscato? I did try the Chardonnay, but it wasn't to my taste buds. Just felt like they gave me the most popular recommendations. I also somewhat miss the explanation that comes with tasting from a traditional server but I'm sure I remember none of that info so it doesn't seem as important to add back into this experience. They had a couple premade food items in a fridge (cheese and meta plates). After my three tastes I would have loved something salty and light to snack on like popcorn, so hopefully the snack selection expands just a bit. Overall cool experience, you get exactly the wine you pay for, and I love being able to try so many! I do plan to bring a few other friends here to experience embarc wines!
