I just had some family heirlooms re-appraised for insurance purposes. Gleim has a stellar reputation. Very trustworthy. I have been wary of leaving valuables being appraised off site because in my mother's case, a family diamond was "swapped out" for a much lesser quality diamond less than half the value of the original. Nicole and the staff on Main St is great to work with, knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The inventory is beautifully curated. I also learned that the owner Bhuvan takes sterling silver and gold either for appraisal or cash as melt down by weight. Next time you need a piece repaired, cleaned or a special gift (they also have beautiful estate pieces) stop by Gleim!

But recently two men who were working when I visited to drop off and pick up my ring were surprisingly sloppy: in manner and in wrinkled, ill-fitting clothes. Employees of luxury jewelry stores should represent the quality of products & service in their appearance (so agreed my husband when I wondered if I was being snobby). We might consider another place to have it cleaned in future (I found online that the company and their parent company, Sterling, have had lawsuits and complaints about harassment over the decades and not compensating employees as stated). Switching however would mean if the setting, which has never had damage, does sustain damage or looses a stone, we'd lose the warranty protection. In the past the care was always consistent in getting the diamonds and interior of the setting clean but I'm now being given different information regarding whether or not I should have it cleaned in 10 minutes or leave it overnight(s). This location at least is now called Jared's [by/with?] James Allen (another Sterling brand).

When choosing a jeweler for something as meaningful as an engagement ring, trust and transparency matter a lot. While we respect that others may have different experiences, this interaction ultimately led us to continue our search elsewhere. Especially after noticing many of their negative reviews revolved around the owners daughter, this was concerning to us.
