Seppuku is one of the best tattoo studios in the country. I don't say that lightly. They have graced the cover of magazines like International Tattoo, Skin and Ink and many others. All are accomplished painters and treat the art they put on your body as a fine work of art also. I have known Johnny for 15 years. The guy does amazing art on and off skin. He has done the art for rock posters, video games, large agency advertising, Warner Brothers, High Times Magazine and many others. His pinups are some of best out there. Got an old tribal piece from those hazy days back in the 90's you need to get covered? Seppuku is the place. That portfolio alone is worth visiting just to see what what they started with and what they transformed it into. Matt is a phenomenal painter and does some of the most intricate portrait work I have ever seen. Ever seen a bad portrait someone has butchered on someone's skin? Matt's work will simply amaze you at the way he captures the human (and sometimes inhuman) face. You have to see his work to believe it. Jamison is the up and coming artist in the studio who learning from two of the best. His work definitely shows he's paying attention. He has a long and prosperous career ahead of him. Both Matt and Johnny are completing my full sleeves. I couldn't imagine a better place to get my work done. The shop is a showcase of talent. Posters, paintings and portfolios crammed full of art that will blow your mind. I'm not exaggerating. It's on your body forever, right? No second guessing here. Tattoo parlors are akin to pizza joints and sushi bars and barber shops - everyone has their favorite that they're fiercely loyal to and rarely jump ship to a new place. And I never thought I'd go anywhere besides Shotsie's but on the recommendation of a valued friend I did just that to Seppuku and damn happy I did. It's bright, it's clean, the peeps inside are insanely talented and way cool. Yes - of course you're going to walk in and see a painting of a hot babe on top of a bed of skulls. Why? Because it's a tattoo shop! You're going to hear trivia regarding Dario Argento movies and see a Minor Threat photo and Dead Kennedys logo. Why? Because it's a tattoo shop, dammit! But then where else are you going to then hear about the benefits of a juicing diet or how it's actually the Coast Guard and not the Marines that are tough SOB's?! The artists here definitely take pride in their (exceptional) work. They understand that while it's you that will be sporting the ink till the cows come home (that's from the Book of Revelations I believe) it reflects on them just as much what you have on your body. I looked for years to find a shop that could cover up the mediocre work I got when I was younger. Every artist I consulted told me I'd have to cover with large pieces of solid black. Then I met Matt and Johnny, and they blew me away with their portfolios, advice and experience. Matt did my cover ups, and since he relocated Johnny has given me several beautiful pieces of original artwork. The reviews on here trashing Johnny are from people that don't know how seriously he takes his craft, and the time he puts into his art. If you make an appointment, show up. If you can't make it, call to cancel. If an artist tells you something about your design won't work, listen to them because they do indeed know better than you do when it comes to how to do their job. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with, and I'm proud to call him a friend after spending many hours in his chair. He may have a take no shit attitude, but it's an admirable quality in a sea of people that will tell you whatever you want to hear, then trash you when you walk out the door. If you have delicate sensibilities, can't handle constructive criticism or are easily offended by the word fuck, this might not be the place for you. If you want quality custom body art, and you enjoy meeting interesting, funny, and intelligent people that refuse to compromise their principles, then definitely stop in for a consult. Got my first tattoo here on 9/28/13 and it was an incredible experience all the way around. My artist was Johnny Thief. I initially contacted him via email on the shops website and I went down to the shop and set up my session about a month in advance. Shared some of my ideas but had a changed my idea the day of. He was able to put something together on the spot which I really appreciated, patiently allowed me to take my time figuring out the size and position, and then we got started. He is VERY skilled and because of that I believe the tattoo ended up being less painful than it could have been with someone less experienced. It was a small tattoo but he put a lot of life into it and got it done in a pretty short amount of time. By the time everything was done, I was so comfortable I started thinking about what I could get next. The pricing is great, the artists are incredible, the shop is super clean, and the ink they use is top quality. The lady who did my tattoo did a great job, but the process/experience was horrible. They told us a 7 o'clock appointment, waited for about 45 minutes and felt rushed when i was in the chair for something that is going to be on my body for the rest of my life. I was getting a tattoo for my boyfriend and i wanted him to like it and she wouldn't listen to what he wanted when i told her i want him to be happy with it. They were getting frustrated and threatened to kick us out for changing her design for something we wanted! read more

Seppuku Tattoo is most definitely not your average tattoo shop. It is not covered with examples of your standard tattoo shop flash, and it is not where you go if you want a run of the mill tattoo. Seppuku Tattoo is more like an art gallery. The walls in this shop are covered in original artworks created by the shop's proprietors, Johnny and Matt. The work that these artists create (on skin or canvas) are incredible and top notch, and the pride that is taken in their work is plainly obvious. My piece was done by Johnny, and it is a custom created by him. One day I walked into his shop, told him what subject matter I was looking for and gave him my number. Two or three days later he calls me and says he's got a design concept drawing ready for me, and that I should come in and check it out. That being said, it was way better than what I had expected, especially for a first draft, and his initial concept actually ended up being the final design that I will wear on my skin for the rest of my days. The work that they do here is fast, clean, and professional. I will definitely be visiting Seppuku again for more work. read more

Johnny is a ROCK STAR, he has covered up a few hideous scratcher disfigurements/work that I was ashamed to have on my body. Don't listen to the hate. Had my session done with Johnny and his work speaks for itself. Fair warning he takes no shit whatsoever. Do not walk in expecting to tell him how to do his job; you will likely have a similar experience to a lot of the negative reviews. Be as straightforward as possible and you will have no problems. I would recommend to try somewhere else if you want more control (or are easily offended) but if you're looking for someone who knows what they're doing and will do an amazing job 100% go here. Johnny Thief who I believe is the owner or co-owner, is the most UN-PROFESSIONAL business owner I have ever encountered. I understand that this is a tattoo shop and tattoo artists may not be considered "professional" but when you are trying to run a business, you need to be able to work with customer. I was seeking a cover up from Johnny Thief and after driving an hour and a half each way for a 10 minute consultation with him I decided to set up an appointment and was promised a drawing about 2 weeks prior to the appointment. I explained during my consultation that I was nervous, since I was trying to cover up an already bad tattoo. Over the next few weeks, I sent Johnny about four emails asking some advice on whether he thought black and gray or full color would work better as a cover up. Johnny was not answering his emails, I tried calling a few times. So not to disturb other patron's appointments, I tried to call a few minutes before the shop opened to see if I could speak to him for a few minutes for his opinion, but he was "unavailable." Not to be unreasonable I asked if he could call me back when he was free but he never returned any of my phone calls, I guess he tattoos 24 hours a day 7 days a week. After another email presenting him with the choice between two ideas, the response I received from him was just amazing. I could not even believe what I was reading, I have posted his email response below, but blocked his vulgar language: "I'm getting pretty fu**ing pissed over here. We had a really long consult, & it seems like you've forgotten everything I've said. You're looking at my portfolios, which are nothing but COLOR OVER BLACK, and you come to the conclusion that color over black may not be the 'best idea'? I think your best option to consult with someone that you will listen to. Good luck with your search. " I sent a follow-up e-mail apologizing for somehow unknowingly offending him. I was not aware you could not ask questions prior to having someone jab needles into my arm and permanently marking my skin with ink for the rest of my life. However Johnny proceeded to cancel my appointment after I had waited for almost two months to get the cover up done by him. If this is how you treat your potential clients, I can only imagine his reaction if he actually took any of his time to draw anything up and then I asked him to change a part of it. I am not a tattoo artist but after doing extensive research and asking multiple professional artists, color over a large dark tattoo will look great when newly finished but after a short time the underlying dark ink will eventually "poke through" Well, I am certainly happy that the $500 plus dollars that I was going to spend in this sitting alone was not wasted on this arrogant and pompous jerk. While it may look like he does good work he is certainly not the only show in town. There are plenty of incredibly talented artists who are more than happy to do business with you minus the diva attitude. I went to Johnny to see if i can get a cover up done on my left arm. He was very nice and did a really good job on my first session. We scheduled a second session to do the coloring and finish it up. During the time period between sessions i lost my job and was financially struggling and completely forgot and missed my appointment. I sent him an email apologizing and explaining my situation and asked him if we could schedule another appointment. Below is the email i received from him. All of this because i accidentally missed my appointment. This is the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen. Granted i was wrong in not calling him or emailing him to change my appointment but I completely forgot. I was unemployed, struggling to pay bills, and trying to get my job back. Clearly he did not care at all. This is how i get treated after handing him almost 600 dollars for the first session and by mistake missing my second appointment. In case you think i faked this email by typing it myself. Just go to where you can see pictures and i screen shotted his email and posted it "Yes, Ray, you stood me up. No call, no show. Despite that smart phone in your hand that you took this picture with, which allows you to make phone calls, send emails, and access all of our social media networks. Leaving me standing around with my dick in my hand, half a day's work scrapped for nothing. Walk ins turned away because I THOUGHT I was booked. People waiting for weeks to get an appointment with me, waiting on people like you. When you're a selfish prick, the things you do have ripples and you affect a lot of people. And I am sick to fucking death of living in a society where people like you feel free to fuck people over. You came in to fix a terrible permanent mistake. Just got my first tattoo this Saturday (tribute to Stevie Ray on my arm) from Seppuku. From our first consultation to the completion of the tattoo, Matt was a true professional artist in every sense! He was always patient with my questions, receptive to my ideas and blew away every expectation!!!!!!!!!!!!! His attention to all the intricate details of SRV's guitar and drive to make it historically correct were so outstanding! Never once did I feel the need to check the progress or question any of his artistry. His work on this guitar, as well as the overall theme of the piece destroyed any and every other tattoed rendition of SRV I've ever seen! More than reasonably priced too!
