Every Sephora I've have been too has seemed very cramped in my opinion. For the amount of items they have it would be nice to have a little more room to move around. However it took like then 5 mins for someone to greet me and help me with what I was needing. So based on what the employees here control the are the best of the best. read more

Absolutely fantastic experience at the Sephora in Hanes Mall today! I originally called to ensure they had the product/s I wanted before I came. The lady I spoke to on the phone assured me they did and simply had great customer service over the phone. Her positive and upbeat attitude really drew me in. Once I'd stepped foot inside I was immediately greeted and when I made my way to the section of products I was interested in a sales associate by the name of Emily told me many key points about the line, made suggestions on several products from the line as well as another line I had never heard of. She treated me as though I was the only customer in the store and other various associates would pass by and agree with her recommendations. I really felt important and that I was well on my way with the correct products. Emily also reminded me that Sephora does complimentary mini facials if I was ever interested in trying a full skincare line. Thrilled with my visit today! Let me just say I absolutely love anything dealing with skincare and makeup. I particularly love Sephora because you're allowed to get samples of products in the store. I love the idea of this because you can try high end products before buying. My daughter and I spent nearly 45 minutes in here playing in makeup and we even got a few samples. The muas were pretty busy but helpful when needed. read more

I hate to write a bad review, but after many times here I have experienced the same thing. The employees are always talking to each other and not eager to help. When asked for help-there is attitude. I have a Sephora upgrade and wanted to take advantage of it and was denied a mini facial which is actually available to all Sephora members. Too may bad experiences to mention. I even took potential buyers asking for assistance and they got no help on 1 day. What I am most upset about now is that I bought some foundation that was by Rihanna that was almost sold out. I tried it on myself and finally asked an associate if she could help find a match and she said it was perfect and I didn't need to test any others. It is not a match. Now I have to return it and hopefully Sephora will work with me. It has to go to a Sephora at JCP. BTW the Sephora in Hanes Mall is awesome! read more

Eh, it's a Sephora inside a JCPenney--or jcp--whatever their name is now. They stock all the typicals--and Perricone. The staff are friendly enough, but don't seem as perky and knowledgeable as the typical Sephora employees I've come to know. The previous reviews by Susan P. and Jennifer C. must have been made back when the Sephora was just a small section. I visited today and it looked fairly fresh and new. read more

There is now a store front for Sephora. Upper Level across from Belk. Very large with a smooth flowing floor plan. I have made several purchases here. I got my makeup done here for a formal event I was attending. I very much liked the outcome. The customer service is always warm and helpful. read more

This review is for the stand alone store that is not inside JC Penny. I went yesterday and the nicest guy helped me find what I needed and was not pushy. After picking up what I came in for I walked around and had a question for an associate. The nice girl who helped me was very helpful. Above and beyond just answering my question. I know weekends are the busiest time so when they are very crowded you may not get the service you would when the associates aren't spread so thin. I find if you are patient and not rude about it that most people in most all businesses will be very helpful and appreciative when they do get to you because you weren't demanding. read more

Overly crowded and overwhelming... I'd rather shop online than venture into this store again. I've been to other Sephora stores that boasted a more open layout. This store is poorly designed. My experience there the other day was short, and I did find a few staff members who were willing to help me locate what I needed. I love that they have a wide array of items and brands to pick from, but feel rather overwhelming most of the time. It's very tightly squeezed in a small area. Today, the staff gladly help my stepdaughter find her Bare Minerals foundation but also suggested a newer version for acne scars and treatment with tea tree oil... They also tested her skin color with a meter which was very helpful. The register is in the far back and we did wait a while to check out being only one attendant . read more

If I could give this a zero, I would. My wife has always loved Sephora and buys most of her make up and perfume from there. So for her birthday I was going to buy her some perfume. But instead, the sales lady convinced me to buy a sample box. It was around $70, had about 8 different samples. Once you tried them, you could then get a full bottle of the one you liked best. We kept box and receipt. She tried all. Then went to get her bottle and they continue to give excuses why they can't honor it. Supposedly there was a voucher in the box but we didn't see it and no one warned us. We DO still have the box AND the receipt. The local store and corporate offices refuse to help us. This is unethical behavior at a minimum, and at worst purposefully misleading of clients. We will never shop there again! You have been forwarned. read more

There are actually two Sephora locations at the Hanes Mall - a smaller one on the second floor of JC Penney's, and a dedicated storefront not too far from there. I am over 50, and find that NO ONE wants to help an "older" woman with products. The sales staff generally don't seem older than 25, and run like hell when they see an older person shopping. They fawn over any young thing that comes in, however. I asked for some makeup remover so that I could sample a foundation, and was given a cotton round soaked with some sort of liquid - then she disappeared No offer to help find the right shade. If I am thinking of paying $44 for foundation, I would like some assistance. If I want a do-it-yourself experience, I can go to a drugstore and save a lot of money. I deliberately wandered around the store, looking at various items, just to see if anyone would ask if I needed help - no one did. Several staff members stood unoccupied and no one made a move, until a couple of 20 year olds came in. Sephora is making a big mistake by ignoring women over a "certain age", and they somehow think that once you're older, you don't care about your appearance. We all are women who like to look good no matter our age. We are also working women who must maintain an image for the workplace. And please remember that we are professionals with the discretionary income to actually buy your products. I suggest you educate your adolescent staff in how to assist older women with products, or actually hire women who know how to recommend cosmetics and techniques for those of us over 20. Shopping at Sephora has become demeaning, and it takes a lot for me to even go in as I know I will be summarily dismissed as just some old bag. I might add that, for my age, I am not bad looking. read more

I agree with T.R.! Seriously, this Sephora is in J.C. Penney's and it is the most low budget Sephora I have ever been to. Sephora is my safe haven, the place where I go to clear my head and buy things to make myself feel better when I don't need anything from MAC. I am even a member of their Beauty Insider program. This Sephora has possibly the worst make-up artists I've ever seen. Most of the employees cannot give you a straight answer about anything! So, I've been in this Sephora three or four times. I first asked about a primer for my eye lids and she said "I don't know." Shocked at her vague answer, I then asked her what she liked, and she said, "I don't know, it depends on your preference." I told her what I like in a primer and she said "it's up to you." NO! I'm asking you what a good primer is?! WTF?! Then, I got a different girl to ask her about concealer a different occasion and I don't know if they went to the same school of vagueness but HOLY crap, I got the same little game back and forth. I ask because I need help, and I need your opinion because I don't work at a MAKE-UP STORE. Seriously, I feel so negative, but they tainted my safe haven. :( read more

I was so happy Sephora was coming to Winston-Salem . I would always have to drive 30 minutes+ to get to one. For some reason some of the employees at this particular location are so rude and hasty. Not really sure why! I usually come in, purchase what I want, and I'm gone...Im not one of those customers that give employees a difficult time.They have the worst attitudes. Most of the time I don't even ask for help if I need it. I guess I will be driving 30min to the other one, as opposed to the one that's 3 min away. I wouldn't recommend the Winston Salem branch to anyone. I know this may sound silly, but, coincidentally the employees that come off like this (3 in particular) all have on glasses....just to let you know! Every single time I shop at the JC Penney Sephora it is ALWAYS out of stock of something I need . Today they were out of my mascara and lipstick . I was also interested in a new line of lip shades by Bare Escentuals....the majority of that line was blown out. I'm just stupid to keep shopping there. read more

There is now a HUGE sephora that isn't inside the JcPennys. And it is amazing! There is an amazing sales representative that you should most definitely ask for her name is Athena. I came into Sephora in the Jcpenny of Hanes Mall. I asked one of the workers if she had any mascara samples and she rudely said no and walked off. I do not recommend this store to anyone because of the rude "customer service " and also because they did not have hardly anything in stock I wanted. Bad experience... maybe I will try again just not at this location. read more

I love Sephora. The staff in Hanes Mall are very professional and very nice. They took the time to help me find a foundation that works for my skin tone, which is very hard to match due to my rosacea and hyper-pigmentation. It took a bit of time to find a good foundation color and they treated me with respect. I couldn't purchase anything the day I went in but the sales associate understood and was not put off by my inability to buy. She gave me helpful advice and a few tips and tricks on how to apply the foundation for the best coverage. I will be spending quite quite a lot of money there in near future due to the kindness and professionalism of the staff and the quality of the products. Admittedly, some of the products are a little pricey, but the quality is well worth it. I absolutely swear the the Urban Decay de-slick setting spray. It's a life saver! read more

When you search for a Sephora in Winston-Salem, it tells you that there's one in Hanes Mall. It fails to tell you that it's a tiny counter inside JC Penney's. For just about everyone I know, Sephora is a store they shop because there's a ton of selections. This is NOT as Sephora - it has maybe 5 brands inside the "shop", which is actually more like a pop-up. Ugh. read more

I've shopped there on numerous occasion and always felt the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Granted, it is smaller than a full store, but they carry the top-selling brands carried at those. And I was told by a makeup artist there that they can order anything sold at the big store and have it shipped to me directly with shipping waived if I ordered from there. The only thing I noticed is that they don't stay stocked well, which I'm sure is something the staff wishes for also. I've had great experiences there and had my eyes done beautifully! read more
