A few minutes into the massage, I was in bliss, as Tiffany's massage therapy session melted away all of the stress from United Airlines cancelling two of my flights and leaving me hungry, scared, and tired to wander the streets of Newark after midnight the night before. This was much needed. However, after a few minutes, Karen approached. Of course, Karen was a middle-aged white woman who was in the center of her own universe. I wonder on what planet Karen spends most of her time, because Karen began inundating Tiffany with questions while she was giving me the massage. Tiffany handled this with professionalism the entire time in a way that is superhuman, while continuing to give me a great and much-needed massage. However, after three minutes of questions from Karen, all of them clearly answered by the sign in front of her, I had enough. I was paying over $3 per minute, well worth it, but Karen was dead set on ruining my experience and would not relent. I politely told Karen that I was paying about $4 per minute and asked her whether she understood the impact she was having on my paid experience. Karen, of course, said that she was just asking questions and had to get her questions answered. Ironically, there was another employee doing the nails of a lovely young lady, who pointed out that Karen could just ask the other employee the questions, because she was getting her nails done, which anyone in the world but Karen would understand would have been less impolite than interrupting someone actively giving a massage. Of course, Karen continued to be a problem. She asked to sit down in the massage chair without paying while she waited. And when Tiffany again pointed out that she needed to sit in another chair, Karen changed chairs and continued to badger Tiffany, who was now having to cater to Karen's stupid questions even though Tiffany was phenomenal and great at multitasking. After five more minutes of Karen intentionally ruining my much-needed massage, I had enough and asked Karen politely whether she would be okay with me asking questions throughout her massage. Karen, of course, called me an asshole and asked to speak to a manager. Tiffany had to get her manager from her lunch break to deal with Karen, who now wanted to ruin everyone's day. However, that did not happen. Everyone in Be Relax, including Tiffany, her manager, the other employee, and the other customer, would not allow Karen to ruin our day, because we all knew that it is quite simple to treat other humans the way you would like to be treated. However, it was my good luck to be in Terminal C at Newark airport. The d_parture spa kiosks are manned by angels! My massage technician was friendly, considerate, and skillful. My delay would end up being 7 hours, but when I purchased 60 minutes service, the tech was cool and honest about making sure to keep an eye and ear to the gate just in case their was any sudden change. It was a relief that in the event of a change she could still take care of my tension concerns. My session began with quiet back, neck and shoulder work.
